Here's a fun fact: World records for Pac-Man runs aren't calculated by score -- the highest possible score you can earn on the game before encountering the kill screen has been reached a number of times before. Instead, the record is calculated based on how quickly one can achieve a perfect score -- a record that was recently smashed by David Race, who reached the kill screen with the max score in 3 hours, 41 minutes and 22 seconds.
Race's time beat previous record holder Chris Ayra by 42 seconds -- who, in turn, had previously beaten King of Kong's bearded antagonist, Billy Mitchell's fastest time. We smell the makings of a sequel for the aforementioned, critically acclaimed 2007 documentary. The Mack of Pac, perhaps?

If you liked "King of Kong", see "Chasing Ghosts" too. IT's more accurate and less sensationalized than King of Kong. Both are excellent.

It is really freaky when you hit the end in games like Space Invaders and Pac-Man. It is like a computer crashing. In fact it is the computer crashing.
It is easy to complete Pac-Man because the movement of the ghosts is on a set pattern. Once you figure that out it is just adapting to the speed.
Doing it in just over 3 and a half hours is amazing though.

I once saw a drunk middle-aged dude in a bar get really pissed off that he got to the rollover point in Galaga and accidentally overshot it after spending some time trying to get the best score without going over the limit. He was so mad that he was better at the game than Japanese people thought he could possibly be. I was glad I wasn't that guy.

Every time someone calls Billy Mitchell evil, a kitten dies.
I've read about all that stuff surrounding Mitchell and the directors. I've read that he actually filed some formal complaints, and the DVD contains a short video explaining how he was negatively portrayed in the film. I've heard from people who have talked to him say that he really is a very nice guy, and that he is still upset about the way he was portrayed in that movie.
I still think it's a great movie, regardless. When I went to see it in the theater, there was an elder couple sitting next to us who thought it was a showing of the original King Kong. They left about halfway through, leaving me and about 6 other people in the theater. At the end of the movie, everyone literally stood up and applauded. There was more enthusiasm at the end of this movie in the theater than there was for Transformers.

I've never seen The King of Kong, but I must agree Chasing Ghosts is an excellent film. It's a must-see for anyone who enjoys arcade games and wants to learn about the whole culture it once was. Even if Billy Mitchell didn't really come off as the coolest or nicest guy, he's legendary, just as the other gamers in that film.
Seriously though, with Pac-Man's difficulty curve, I can't see anyone who can beat the first 4 or 5 levels and not go on to the end. That games takes some skill.
