Some scurrilous vagabond somehow managed to get their hands on the supposed complete dictionary from 5th Cell's upcoming everything generator, Scribblenauts. We sincerely urge you not to go through the illicitly obtained list, looking for particular nouns of interest and internet memes -- why not save that fun for the actual game? However, everyone should absorb the final tally of words present in the final build of the game: 22,802.
Also, if the list is legit, then "Plumbob" finally made it into the game -- as per our suggestion from E3. As we see it, we're owed around 0.00005 percent of Scribblenauts' total profits. We'll be waiting on the check, 5th Cell.

Thanks man, you know, for killing original ideas because you aren't willing to spend a few buck to congratulate some hard working people in an industry that doesn't even pay for the hard work that gets put into it.
i'm not the most innocent person out there when it comes to piracy, but i'm not an asshole either just to save a few bucks

My GUESS is, that he is still going to buy the game, but because the ROM was released days earlier he's playing it now.
I wish people would stop assuming that pirates don't buy games. At least 60-70% of people just want to try it before they buy it, or want to play it a couple days earlier. That doesn't mean they don't support developers, when in fact most people who pack the files specifically ask you to buy the game if you like it. Of course not everyone will follow it, but most of the comments on the torrent consist of "I liked it so much I bought it".

Don't give us that try before you buy garbage, ever heard of renting games? I guess you think you're better than the rest of us. Crooks like you cost us billions a year across all industries.
Do you think companies just eat that loss? No, they pass that shit onto people who actually pay for their merch. So really your stealing from all of us. Go ahead and get indignant and try to justify it, but everyone else knows better, and you should feel bad.

I love when piracy comes up on Joystiq. When you read all the comments about it you know for a fact the average reader here is about 13-16. A clear lack of understanding is also demonstrated concerning the business AND moral side.

I often find the case of "you know, most of us actually DO buy the games"... and yet, if it's most of you (of which I doubt that) then what about the rest?
The rest DON'T buy the games.
If you can guarantee that your fellow un-buyers will be forced to buy it sooner or later, then we might forgive you, but in all honesty it either sounds like a filthy lie or an ill-planned encouragement.
It's about the same thing as leaving an open doorway that leads to the outside of a prison - most of you claim you come right on back, and are just relieving your stress by going out... but what about the rest that just run away?
Or perhaps, you think it's the same as the lesser example: Food samples in food stores - you want to sample the food before you buy it.
Except there's a problem with that comparison: IF IT REALLY IS LIKE THAT, you'd get a tiny demo of the game, not a semi-full or full version. You don't exactly take an ENTIRE HAM from a store to "try" it out before you buy it again.
And another thing: Some people just keep eating as much of the samples as they can, making sure they fill themselves up so they don't have to PAY for food.
...and most likely: MOST of those who eat the samples - NEVER buy it anyways. Or those who do buy it anyways, have always bought it - and henceforth, don't increase the sales by eating a sample.

I wish there was a way to rent games on the PC. : )
I have never played racing games before, I torrented Burnout Paradise and have enjoyed it so much, I am planning to buy it, its only $20 anyways.
I'll also buy games when I go to India in December, like when I bought GTA4 there for $10, not a pirated copy, full legit retail. They also have Sims 3 for $20 vs. $50 here. : )

Don't pirate this game! Toys R Us has a great deal for Tuesday only. When you buy Scribblenauts($29), you get a $15 gift card. Come on, a great deal for a great game. Why not support the devs and just buy it?

It's not so much morals as it is unhelpful to devs.
Sure, you could pirate a big name game and it would hardly hurt the glory of the dev, but once you pass that kind of treatment to "lesser-known" games, then it becomes... ...a BIG problem.
Games, ideas and companies can be considered as "failures" because of the lack of financial support it gets. It's not always about the marketing either, as many HAVE given lots of focus on their marketing campaign.
That's not morals - that's just a stupid reason as to why good companies and beginning franchises die off.

i can tell by the subtle fecal odor surrounding your post where that particular percentage came from.

Or the devs can turn to Flash games, where they can actually make their money by banking on the game getting "pirated" and distributed to the non-paying masses on hundreds of websites.

That percentage came from the amount of friends on Steam who torrent games but buy the ones that they like. Many of them have found "hidden gems" that get mediocre reviews or receive no hype at all but are amazing games.

As I see it, there are 22,802 possibilities for each level. Probably more if you combine them.

I'm pretty sure that the game boasts over 22k words, but less than 22k objects.
The game uses a EXCELLENT use of synonyms.
If you type in "punk" you get the same sprite you would get if you typed "bully"
Type in "friend" or "dad" and you get the same sprite for "guy"
And "overninethousand" was NOT in that 22k Word list, but if you type it in the game, you get a monocle which an omage (synonym?) to DBZ's Scouter.
So I'm using that info to back my hypothesis.

Didn't they use to claim there were 10,000 words in the game? They doubled it??!!!
Amazing what you can fit into the DS.

What's more amazing is that when rar'd the game is 9 megs and when un rared its only 32megs. Sadly the game has like 2,000 images that get repeated a recolored if my memory serves me right.

Professory Layton was 100 un rared. That was mostly due to all the videos, but file size does not determine if a game is good or bad.

Some guy says "I downloaded the ROM illegally" and everyone teaches him his lesson, but here are two people talking about the cartridge size and un-rarring it....
Please, everyone! These people need moar hate!
