It seems that reports from way back in January of this year on the Zune HD were true -- the upcoming handheld from Microsoft will in fact feature some form of handheld gaming when it releases on September 15. At least that's what we can glean from a recent advertisement for the OLED-laden iPod Touch competitor, hinting at a gaming feature (and showing a tiny snippet of a racing game).
We've embedded the video after the break, originally found by Zunited, but will presumably have to wait until at least Monday to hear more about the Zune HD's gaming features (though we've asked Microsoft for comment either way). Considering the fact that the Zune Marketplace is coming to Xbox 360, we'll be holding fast hope for a Microsoft version of PSP's Minis at some point in the near future.
I see your point, the mix is definitely appealling and I the indie scene as much as the next guy, Apple has every right to brag about the game support they've achieved (despite their initial hesitance with app development for the iPhone).
I just think Microsoft could do a lot with their existing connections and their exclusive development studios- I may be wrong but as far as I know Apple doesn't have a 1st party studio for game development and obviously Microsoft has Windows and Xbox gaming to tie-in. I could see something as simple as gamerscore points being earned through Zune games being appealing enough for some gamertag obsessed individuals.
I sense a lot of people having to come to grips with how they might actually enjoy playing games on a touchscreen, even though they talked a lot of shit about how Apple's touchscreen devices are terrible for gaming, despite being nearly the same device as this.
It's OK haters, you can get excited now - it's not made by Apple.
Why does Dustin have to hate on the Zune everytime he mentions it? Not to mention everyone else groaning at the mention of a zune. What is the big deal? You would prefer owning ipod why?? Is it the apps thing? If so I will never understand that, oh yeah I got an app where it makes fart noises yipee. I get unlimited songs plus 10 free every month so in essence I am paying 5 bucks for unlimited songs. I tried I=tunes but I didn't want to sell my first born to have a music collection. And was tired of the viruses things like limewire breed.
It is so funny a company introduces something new and cool people need to bag on it. Why? Same reason people are scared of public health care, the gen. pop fears any and all changes.
But what happens if you cancel your subscription or if the service goes under? you don't get to keep all of the songs you downloaded just 10 of them for every month. if you're like me that's a rip off because i download a lot of music and would not be able to keep songs that i thought i was paying for with an unlimited download plan, if you don't get to keep the music, then the plan name is misleading. 15$ a month to own 10 songs and rent the other 100 i might download? rip off....sorry. however like i said earlier, i would have looked at this had it come out a couple months ago but now not so much. i hope that who ever buys one has as good an experience with it as i am having with my i pod touch.
So you like I-tunes setup?? DO you illegaly download? I do not. I personally don't like paying 99 cents every time I want to get a song. I also never burn Cd's anymore as I have Mp3 hookup at home and in my car, which maked "owning" for the sole purpose of burning completely invalid. And that is why Zune makes so much sense. Did you really bring up the company or service going under? Are you kidding? On the heels of changing vid marketplace to ZUNE marketplace I highly doubt that would happen. Like I said people fear change no matter how logical it may actually be. The answer I get to why people use I tunes is the I phone not the touch bro.
HidekiPena - Idiot? Next time read my post before you call anyone other than yourself an idiot. Why would someone in this day and age not get an all in one device over carrying TWO devices in their pocket. What's hilarious is you you say they're not aiming for an iPhone like that's a smart decision. They should be aiming for it!!!! People don't want to have a phone AND a music player as seperate items. While your pockets are stuffed with two devices I have a single device that is no bigger than a Zune. Who is the idiot now?
