Enterbrain's absurd prediction: Final Fantasy XIII will help sell PS3 in Japan

Don't mind the well-dressed Japanese gentleman in that tree. It's just Hirokazu Hamamura, president of Famitsu publisher Enterbrain, going out on a limb to predict that Final Fantasy XIII's arrival on December 17 in Japan will help sell a whole bunch of PS3s. He's talking 500,000 more of Sony's system sold during FFXIII's launch period alone. Crazy talk!

Unless, that is, you consider the fact that Final Fantasy is a franchise that's popular enough in Japan (and around the world) to prompt the purchase of a console. Oh, and that there was this kind of significant "new PS3, hardware price cut" thing that just happened. Okay, so Hanamura isn't nuts ... he just makes a lot of sense. We like this guy!

only in the states, and maybe a bit less in europe, but i doubt a single copy of the 360 will be sold in japan.

@rabbler - Considering there is no planned Japanese release of a 360 version, you just made another obvious prediction.

having said that, it helped sell me a PS3 in 2006

FFXIII started selling consoles 3 years ago. I know it's part of the reason I bought a PS3. That and all of the other RPGs that would carry over to it..... Too bad we had to wait 3-4 years for it to actually happen. Oh well, bring it!!!

FF13 was one reason I bought my PS3. Star Ocean 4 the reason I bought my Xbox360.

I also bought a PS3 for FFXIII, and DMC4. Then they both turned out to also be on the 360...my friends laughed at me...lol...good times...

my good man, there is still FF 13: Versus AND FF 14 that is exclusive to your big shiny black box that has magical fairies and wizards inside it that make your games look soooo pretty.

Something tells me FF14 is going to be Timed to the PS3.....I mean FF11 was exclusive for like 3 years....

Star Ocean 4... the "4" means how many DVD-ROM the game comes with??

Then I guess FF XIII may need 13....
