I think the main problem when it comes to setlists is not nearly the best bang for your buck, but rather, having enough songs you want to justify the cost.

I'd say for any game that is $60, if there are around 30 songs are you want, you should buy the game, as you justified the price worth of DLC for the game.
However, I'd say for a major 80+ release disc, you should buy it if there's -15 to 20 songs you want, as there are 60-70 other songs on there that could suprise you, and surely, the extra variety isn't a bad thing.

The only problem with these extra releases is that they divide the content between discs, flood store shelves with the games, and might not get sales (because someone might only want 5 songs, and they would have bought them as DLC, but not with all the other songs)

DLC= Better selection
Disc= Better value

I think even Aerosmith fans were disappointed with GH:Aerosmith.

Actually... you are probably right with Aerosmith.

I don't think I know anyone that likes that game.

Hafkie, You make a good point. I agree, it's about quality as well. The thing is, a new game has its allure... whether that's a shallow POV or not, I don't know (from reading these posts... I guess it is ;)

Harmonix has spent a lot of time doing one band's game. It looks great, don't get me wrong, but they have let a lot of time go by, while the buzz of rhythm games is waning. I play RB2 almost daily, but they rely on DLC to keep the game fresh. With no new achievements for DLC downloads (even $15-20 albums) it makes RB less news-worthy for me as a game, after all this time.

All to say, there is something about a new game that is interesting. New features, achievements and songs. Playing new songs, and getting them for 75 cents a song, when you just want to play something new, makes GH an OK alternative for some people. I know, I know, not the artisans who play RB exclusively.

Also, I love the Beatles, but I don't see them as a luxury good that commands such a high price for gaming. They are selling DLC albums for nearly $20 a piece, and some of those songs are on the 45-song retail disc. That is a lot of cash.

Oh, I agree completely. That was one of the things I did like about GH spinoffs.

I do agree about achievements though. RB2 is almost 1000/1000 for me (I don't have a strat, so I can't get the guitar solo achievement) and the songs are just starting to wear thin. It's the same game I've been playing for almost 2 years now (RB2 was more interface improvement than gameplay improvement), and I want something more. GH5 really pushed the envelope for me, and if RB3 doesn't having some of GH5's features, I will be upset

Harmonix had a winning formula, but they are sitting on it. Songs only go so far. RB3 needs to push the bar the way GH5 is, and the way RB1 did.

I know GH5 came out a few days before Beatles Rock Band in the US. Was that the case in the UK?

GH5 was 8 days before TB:RB in the states.

In Europe, GH5 came out 2 days after TB:RB.

GH2 and GH5 are the best in the series?

that's why I hate GH series so much.

My first GH was GH3 (also the first time playing this kind of game), then GH Aerosmith, then GH WT then realized that I have 3 GH too many. So I stop supporting this brand.

Of course, Beatles: Rock Band came out on 9/9/09, so it had 4 days of sales compared to GH5's full 7, and GH5 got a full weekend out of the extra days. It's definitely much closer than it looks.

Actually, no. As said above, in the UK games come out on Fridays (except in extreme cases where there is a worldwide launch on a different day).

As a result of this, Guitar Hero 5 came out on 11/9/09 (Friday) while The Beatles:RB came out on 9/9/09 (Wednesday).

As such, GH5 was actually out for less time than The Beatles, therefore GH5 really did sell more than The Beatles.

billop I think you are the one who is a fucking idiot. It is pathetic to say that just because someone else has a different taste in games to you.

Every Wii owner in Europe should boycott Harmonix.
We still DO NOT have access to the DLC in Rock Band, since Rock Band 2 was NOT released in Europe, and Rock Band 1 does not support DLC on the Wii.
