I didn't know they were making Lego Zelda game...
Covnam @ Sep 15th 2009 12:43AM
Those are the two things I thought, this looks a lot like a lego game and a lot like zelda. Hopefully there's some element to the game that requires it to look like this and takes advantage of the style, otherwise... meh.
No Kill Tayler @ Sep 15th 2009 12:53AM
Makes you excited doesn't it?
BananaBoat @ Sep 15th 2009 1:38AM
I'm so excited. This game is going to be incredible.
solarshadows074 @ Sep 15th 2009 1:55AM
this game reminds me of the early zelda games, i must buy it.
russell @ Sep 15th 2009 8:46AM
But, the music. They ripped the music from Zelda.
Josh @ Sep 15th 2009 10:10AM
What? It sounds nothing like Zelda.
bkalasin @ Sep 15th 2009 3:21PM
I loved the old zelda games too. Though I think visually this would have looked a LOT better if they got rid of SOME of the blockiness. If they stick a $10 price tag on it, they'd probably have a sale though.
Overgauss @ Sep 15th 2009 12:15AM
From whence came goodness. The series.
Lukeyo @ Sep 15th 2009 12:15AM
I will play it on a CRT television in mono while wearing pajamas in my basement.
Inc retro weekend
chaos @ Sep 15th 2009 12:16AM
If I didn't know any better, I'd say its a remake of A Link to the Past...
Lukeyo @ Sep 15th 2009 12:27AM
"Knowing better" is open to discussion. I would argue that pretending that this IS a remake of ALttP would be knowing better. Ignorance is bliss.
chaos @ Sep 15th 2009 12:59AM
That's kinda what I mean. I know sarcasm doesn't really work through typing, but that's how I tend to show my opinions and thoughts. It looks like a cool game, but something tells me that Nintendo might see this game is too much like Zelda, which means I won't be surprised if I hear about some copyright arguments in the near future.
mirilene @ Sep 15th 2009 12:16AM
Call me crazy, but i think the "hero" NPCS are actually from dragon warrior 2. I see Edrick's decendants pretty clearly there. Plus Dot mario!
This is an actual game?
haran_elessar @ Sep 15th 2009 12:19AM
yeah that definitely looked like Mario. seems weird right? all the zelda references and possible Mario references...makes you think it's more of a fan-made project than an actual official game (although it is).
Doreo (Psn-doreo503) @ Sep 15th 2009 12:19AM
I believe they are just showing familiar characters for the nostalgia effect, but yes indeed it is a game. I believe that you are able to create your own character though.
BananaBoat @ Sep 15th 2009 1:41AM
This has Zelda and a few other games written all over it. Boomerang? Check. Sword in Stone? Check. Boulders falling? It just goes on and on. That is exactly what I wanted from this game, and it looks like they are going to deliver.
I sincerely hope that Nintendo doesn't get its panties in a bunch over this.
BananaBoat @ Sep 15th 2009 1:44AM
Just watched the end of the trailer and...oh no....oh nooooo....11/5? No mention of an American release?
If I have to pay 100 dollars to import this, I will, but I'm going to cry like a little girl.
Jampirow @ Sep 15th 2009 5:46AM
That's not Mario, that's Spelunky from Spelunker.
But yeah, I agree. I really love the Dragon Quest references, specially the "standing walk" animation.
haran_elessar @ Sep 15th 2009 12:17AM
Very impressive. That 2d to 3d transition was very cool. They should do a trailer that consists of a loop of that transition. Gameplay looks nice but very very Zelda like, even down to the music. Watch out for a Nintendo lawsuit!
rooshma @ Sep 15th 2009 12:19AM
1:36: don't even mess with the chickens. They will mess you up.
sonicspike41 @ Sep 15th 2009 8:20AM
Considering this isn't Zelda, those probably aren't Cuccos.
emotaku @ Sep 15th 2009 12:24AM
Anyone else creeped out by how real the DOF made everything look?
Josh @ Sep 15th 2009 10:15AM
No, not creeped out at all. How are voxels/Legos creepy?
NeoHumpty @ Sep 15th 2009 12:31AM
Well.......at least it appears to have some old school rpg.......right? I have been waiting for one. Guess I'd pick this one up if it hits the states.
WonderbreadUSA @ Sep 15th 2009 12:32AM
it has a very nostalgic feel to it.
Tofupancho @ Sep 15th 2009 12:38AM
I was hoping for less intellectual property infringements out of this one. I'm not surprised by any stretch but that probably means this will never see a proper US release. Otherwise this looks like a BLAST
BananaBoat @ Sep 15th 2009 3:19AM
The same rules apply in Japan. If this can get released commercially there, it should be able to get released here without any additional problems. They aren't including any obvious homages to any American properties (from what I saw in the trailer) so it shouldn't be much of an issue. Then again, the rules might be different in Japan for this sort of thing (If someone were to make, say, a voxel version of Mickey Mouse, all hell would break loose).
I hope this game has a level editor. Oh my god, the hours of fun I could have just building things with voxels. I know it has a character editor, but I think this engine has so much more potential than that, and it would be a shame if we couldn't create and share our own voxel worlds.
Just checked the import sites, and it is hovering at 70 dollars. If they don't announce an English release by the fourth or so, I'm importing this game. Someone somewhere will translate the text screens for me.
BananaBoat @ Sep 15th 2009 3:27AM
Did some checking, and apparently the scuttlebutt on the internet is that Atlus (of Persona/Shin Megami Tensei fame) is in the process of acquiring the rights to publish the game in the US (and localize it, etc). There is also another company going for the rights, but I can't remember which one at the moment.
To import...or not to import....hmm.....
CH3BURASHKA @ Sep 15th 2009 12:40AM
Genius art style. Interesting how the PS systems get this and then 30 Second Hero, both with similar styles (blown up 8 bit(?) art). Sometimes I wish the 360 had some defining art games (Braid's now multiplatform, and I don't think there's anything on the 360 that can compare with PixelJunk stuff).
solarshadows074 @ Sep 15th 2009 1:57AM
pixeljunk games are truly one of a kind.
Shadow_Modder @ Sep 15th 2009 12:54AM
Woah, this looks awesome. Hopefully it comes out here in the US.
gamepete64 @ Sep 15th 2009 12:56AM
Holy ripoff Batman!!! This looks good nonetheless but it's practically a re-skinned Zelda imo.
Levi @ Sep 15th 2009 4:37PM
You know, even if it is a reskinned Zelda game, it would be the Zelda game I had been looking forward to since ALttP.
Overgauss @ Sep 15th 2009 6:44PM
looks more like Y's Book 1 and Book 2 to me.
Tiptup300 @ Sep 15th 2009 1:00AM
The water looks terrible. The game really looks breath taking in screenshots, but that water. woooh!
ToadStoolPorridge @ Sep 15th 2009 11:10AM
I actually liked how the water looked. What bothered you about it?
Tiptup300 @ Sep 15th 2009 1:07PM
Seemed very jumpy and roughly animated.
Marius @ Sep 15th 2009 1:00AM
Not my type of game
moominsean @ Sep 15th 2009 1:00AM
that is some serious zelda ripping off. even the song sounds like a variation of the zelda theme. still looks super sweet, can't wait for a US release.
Mr. Manly ESC Mcbeefington Ferguson The Second @ Sep 15th 2009 1:02AM
I can't believe Nintendo isn't suing them.
Oh a great do want.
Courtney @ Sep 15th 2009 1:08AM
All the Zelda references actually turned me off a bit. The idea behind this is awesome, but I don't just want a video game version of "Scary Movie" or something.
bm @ Sep 15th 2009 5:23AM
That puts to words how I feel about this much better than I could have. Totally agreed.
MRLN the Amazing @ Sep 15th 2009 1:15AM
AAAAH CUCCOS!
Jerk Face @ Sep 15th 2009 1:15AM
I am pretty sure I want this.
geoff0011 @ Sep 15th 2009 1:21AM
Sure it looks pretty good, but as a Zelda fan, I just can't approve. It's just too much of a ripoff.
popozao @ Sep 22nd 2009 1:51AM
HOLY FUCKING CHRIST GIMMEEEEEE!!!!1
Ben @ Sep 15th 2009 1:55AM
Ohh-ho-ho, yes. I actually don't care at all that this seems very Legend of Zelda-ish and for one main reason: I can't get enough of the 2D Legend of Zelda games (isometric/2.5D still counts as 2D to me).
That said, I wouldn't be surprised if the trailer was simply built to look like an old Legend of Zelda game simply as a form of tongue-in-cheek. I mean, it isn't exactly hiding the fact that it looks very similar. Perhaps the game is even a parody? Either way, it at least looks beautiful.
Kalenn @ Sep 15th 2009 9:44AM
I'm with you on that one - the English in the trailer looks comically bad. I thought most Japanese shops were using pro translaters for all their stuff now.
"The kingdom was watched by six sages who protected six Orbs and it which I hid power of God in." [sic]
Francuzzz @ Sep 15th 2009 2:49AM
ooo nice game i like retro (its not retro but it looks like it )
and this music (8-bit style) it will be goooood
