Surprise! FFCC: The Crystal Bearers out in North America this December

But it is coming out this year in North America! Barely! Crystal Bearers will be out in North America on December 26, just in time for people to return whatever games they received as Christmas gifts from well-meaning relatives. And just in time for students to spend their holiday breaks tossing Cactuars around.

Suprised? I think not.
Warlock @ Sep 14th 2009 10:55AM
Yeah didn't Nintendo just make a huge deal over this game at e3 a few months back?
Jimbotron @ Sep 14th 2009 2:52PM
Yes, but they never mentioned it coming out this year.
Cody @ Sep 14th 2009 10:46AM
This Crystal Chronicles might actually be the good one. At least it's finally a full fledged affair. And the Gamecube one was just..... off.
JXCgunrunna @ Sep 14th 2009 10:57AM
Agreed. This has jumped onto my list of games to get. right after Scribblenauts, MW2, Red faction, batman, MW2, L4D2 and that capcom fighting game for the wii. it looks good.
Rhamsey @ Sep 14th 2009 11:02AM
I actually enjoyed all of the FF:CC's so far. Mostly because I had friends who lived close to me who also enjoyed and had the game, meaning lots of fun multiplayer. Most people I talk to who didnt enjoy the gamecube game didnt have friends who also had and enjoyed the game. I almost never played that game single player and loved it.
Geist @ Sep 14th 2009 11:26AM
I played this game at E3. I do not have high hopes for it. It's like an action game, but without the action, and with a ton of random little sidegames in it like a shooting gallery, piloting an airship, and other random crap. It feels haphazard.
Maulok @ Sep 14th 2009 10:46AM
That in-yo-face font for "The Crystal Bearers" is certainly quite a contrast to the more elegant "Final Fantasy" font.
RKN @ Sep 14th 2009 10:47AM
Exactly, I feel like it wants to come out of my monitor and cut me. : (
Captain Planet [Planeteer | Power of Captain Planet] @ Sep 14th 2009 11:28AM
It's almost as if you can hear Billy Mays' voice when you read it.
captainprotonx @ Sep 14th 2009 2:14PM
Wait until you hear the intro "Crystal Rap".
Moogles be popp'n and lock'n.
Nytrojen @ Sep 14th 2009 7:27PM
I must admit, at first glance i thought it said "care bears"
Solace @ Sep 14th 2009 10:46AM
The only way I would ever buy this game is if it actually had crystal bears.
ben @ Sep 14th 2009 10:47AM
I thought the original had a surprisingly good levelng and battle system. Hopefully this one won't have a retarded story and the stupid miasma shit
Mr Khan @ Sep 14th 2009 10:52AM
Not sure if it's a good idea or a bad idea. I guess it depends on how they plan to launch it. If it's a low-key launch, it's a good idea, because the game could pick up legs in the after-holiday time, when people have lots of loose cash from Christmas and something to spend it on, and the game won't get lost in the shuffle
If it's a high-profile launch, it's a bad idea, because high profile launches simply don't happen the day after Christmas. Though i remember Sonic Heroes launching on January 7th or something, none too far after, and it did well enough in the end.
samfish [is sad there is no Gene in Tats v Cap =( ] @ Sep 14th 2009 1:20PM
I think this is either the smartest move in the world or the absolute dumbest to launch the day after Christmas. I can certainly see the logic behind it, at least. The 26th is always one of the busiest days of the year for stores, but obviously it's because people are returning things.
Although given the Wii's comparatively lackluster lineup (no notable 3rd party games!) for the holidays compared to the HD systems, you'd think Square would pull out all the stops to get this on the shelves a few weeks earlier...
More than likely, assuming this date is accurate, they're sending it off to die, though. Which is a shame because it looks really cool. I don't usually have any interest in Final Fantasy games, but this looks too much like Zelda with psychokinesis for me to pass up on.

What hd consoles?

Oh my... do want!
The original Crystal Chronicles was one my favorite games last gen... the art style and setting was excellent, but it had only one problem: you needed a GBA and a friend to truly enjoy the game. Unfortunetly, that's why too many people didn't enjoy the game.
This new game seems a lot better... I'm glad that Square is trying a different thing... the whole super-heroe thing in this game looks awesome... being able to fly in the skies, telekineses, the Skies of Arcadia vibe, etc... everything looks great.
It will be a nice entry in the Crystal Chronicles series...

They need to make a new one with the ability to use the DS and connect to wireless. Maybe with the WiiHD and the DS2

"They need to make a new one with the ability to use the DS and connect to wireless. "
They need to do this with Zelda 4Swords, too!
Josh @ Sep 14th 2009 2:32PM
Yeah, I'm also really looking forward to it. It's got an excellent aesthetic, and I like what appears to be a focus on adventuring rather than level grinding and stat boosting.
Don-Don @ Sep 14th 2009 10:54AM
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: The Crystal Bearers: Graffiti
Bradwart @ Sep 14th 2009 10:58AM
This game must be competing with Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords for longest game title.
The Pie Pieper @ Sep 14th 2009 11:17AM
No kidding. Come on localization team, you have to shorten that. When the nerdy little 10 year olds come into my store and ask for that or something else like Yu-Gi-Oh 5Ds: Stardust Accelerator WC 2009, all I want to do is strangle him.
But it’s not his fault; it’s those damn companies who refuse to break away from "traditions."
Just call it Crystal Bearer, we'll get the point.
The Aquacharger (PSN:Elvenmonk) @ Sep 14th 2009 11:47AM
You tell that to Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner : Raidou Kuzunoha VS The Soulless Army
And yes, there's a sequel which is Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Summoner 2: Raiduo Kuzunoha VS King Abaddon
CJLopez @ Sep 14th 2009 12:26PM
Final Fantasy XIII: Fabulla Nova Crsytales
I think we have another runner up
Mr. Fister @ Sep 14th 2009 1:29PM
No, I'm pretty sure Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People Episode 4: Dangeresque 3: The Criminal Projective is still one of the longest video game titles out there.

Also, Nov. 26 is my birthday. :D
Damn PAL delays...
Josh @ Sep 14th 2009 10:59AM
Seriously?
A Saturday, day after Christmas release of a game in North America?
guttertalk @ Sep 14th 2009 12:35PM
That's why you get gift cards for Xmas.
Highlar @ Sep 14th 2009 11:00AM
Hooray! So glad to see this release date. I've been looking forward to this game since first hearing about it, and wanting it more with each video clip that is released showing more of the game.
Preston @ Sep 14th 2009 11:08AM
I thought this game was out already? Huh.
Fernando Rocker @ Sep 14th 2009 11:13AM
You are probably confusing the title with Echoes of Time.
tmacairjordan87 @ Sep 14th 2009 12:32PM
I got the gamecube one for free with the system, and it was so bad that I was still offended by getting it. Thankfully I got wind waker with the system for free too (any player's choice game), so the gamecube was redeemed to me.
samfish [is sad there is no Gene in Tats v Cap =( ] @ Sep 14th 2009 1:22PM
This looks nothing like the Gamecube one, though.
MRLN the Amazing @ Sep 14th 2009 3:16PM
And PLAYS nothing like it. It's pretty much a totally different game (one with a story and completely different controls).
Josh @ Sep 14th 2009 2:27PM
Yeah, I can see the logic behind the move, but it's not something that's done very often (at least not in games).
Fun DMC @ Sep 14th 2009 2:34PM
I haven't seen a single vid of this game that suggests the gameplay is anything special. It certainly looks polished as far as presentation goes, but the second word I'd use to describe or assess what I've seen of the game is 'strange'. As one poster up top said, so far it just looks like a weird assortment of different gameplay styles haphazardly mashed into a single game.
Fun DMC @ Sep 14th 2009 2:38PM
Of course, if ya got links that'd show me otherwise, I'd appreciate them. I'm starved for a decent third party Wii exclusive right now, after all (and the last two hyped ones, Muramasa and TCon, were huge disappointments to me - well, not TCon, I expected nothing special out of that one).
sam @ Sep 14th 2009 7:09PM
Don't know what TCon is...
I just finished Cursed Mountain, that was pretty good. In a 'B minus' sort of way, not in an 'omg this is the reason to buy a Wii' sort of way.
But it's the first survival-horror-ish game on Wii that achieves the holy trinity of not-a-port, not-on-rails, *and* not-completely-sucky, so I think it's worth playing.
I've got high hopes for Silent Hill... yes, luckily I didn't include 'not-a-remake' on the above requirements list...
MRLN the Amazing @ Sep 14th 2009 3:17PM
HOLY CRAP. That's way sooner than I thought. I'm buying this, day one.
