$399 Modern Warfare 2-themed Xbox 360: 250GB HDD, wireless controllers, game
Microsoft and Infinity Ward just announced the availability of a Modern Warfare 2-themed Xbox 360 console at a press event in Los Angeles. Included in this "limited edition" $399 package is: a 250GB Xbox 360 console, with the requisite Modern Warfare 2 markings (the so-called "Super Elite"); two wireless controllers,
Major Nelson says it's the "standard edition" of the game and Amazon, in addition to not listing a WiFi adapter (we won't quit complaining, Microsoft!), specifies that the bundle only includes a "Composite A/V cable." The only other detail we've gathered is that you'll be able to preorder like you've got a pair beginning "today" – Amazon has the listing right here. If you're hungry for any more details you can watch our shakicam videos of the big reveal and what's in the box.

Very nice! Now all I have to wonder is if we'll see the 250GB HDD pop out in stores anytime soon.
philmcphail @ Sep 15th 2009 11:50PM
Yeah that 250 gig HDD is really appealing. Especially since I only have about 2 gigs left on my original 20 gig one. Unfortunately, I don't think Microsoft going to be easy on the pricing judging by their last $25 dollar reduction on the current 120 gigs. Here's to me hoping that at least now the 120 gigs will less than 100, I'd jump on that deal any day.
drumwiz86 @ Sep 16th 2009 12:05AM
No we just have to wait for the ID sector to leak and we can use our own 250gb harddrives
Swagman @ Sep 16th 2009 4:31AM
My understanding (based on reliable rumors from much earlier in the year), is that the 250GB HDD is being reserved for special editions only - they will not be sold separately at retail.
However, there supposedly will be plenty of opportunities to grab one as part of an limited edition bundle, as Microsoft is looking to release them more often now they have a SKU level and hardware dedicated solely for them at the $399.99 price point.
The same source predicted the Elite price $100 drop, and the phasing out of the Pro model, way back in June. So far the source has been 100% accurate, so no reason to start doubting it now.
The bright side is, with Microsoft looking to do more custom LE, there are tons of games (confirmed and unconfirmed) over the next year which are ripe for the picking, with the possibility for getting the MW2 LE treatment. Games like: Alan Wake, Mass Effect 2, BioShock 2, Lost Planet 2, Splinter Cell: Conviction, Fallout: New Vegas, Final Fantasy 13, Fable 3, Halo: Reach, Crysis 2, Gears of War 3, GTA V, Crackdown 2, Orange Box 2, Rage, or Elder Scrolls V and the list of potential LEs over the next year go on.
One of a lot of gamers biggest complaints about past hardware generations, was the lack of special edition hardware released in North America, while the Japanese market got all the good stuff (to this day, I still covet my Panzer Dragoon LE Saturn, I imported from Japan over a decade ago). Unless you were getting a different color N64 or Gamecube, Europe and America simply did not get special edition hardware from any company. Now that Microsoft has set aside an entire SKU level to do nothing but deliver officially customized hardware in limited edition, finally after decades of getting the shaft, game enthusiasts in the Western markets can finally start getting the love that Japanese gamers have taken for granted for two decades now.
So there is a silver lining here for someone.
fundando @ Sep 16th 2009 7:24AM
Slinter Cell Conviction Bundle might get me to consider getting an 360 again.
ssuk @ Sep 16th 2009 8:57AM
Swagman: What are you talking about? We got the limited edition Pikachu themed N64! What else do you want?
daliminator2000 @ Sep 16th 2009 9:22AM
@ arkweld, Cash: It actually says TF-141, which looks like it stands for "Task Force 141."

A special edition console to support a Valve game? Somebody go check the sky is still intact!
Chris @ Sep 16th 2009 8:28PM
Swagman, I hope you're wrong! I already own 2 360's and with the addition of a media center/server added to my house I can convince my wife we need several as "DVR replacements" I know I can score at least 1 more...do i waste it on this bundle even though im not a huge cod fan!? Or do I go cheap and get the arcade and use a 20gb i have laying around?
I'd love to see what they might have in store for Mass Effect 2...
Moe @ Sep 15th 2009 11:05PM
Geez you'd think they'd make the decals look better. It looks so bad.

philmcphail @ Sep 15th 2009 11:53PM
Even though I prefer my original white one, at least this one is better than that Halo themed one :p

is it grey or black? cant really tell with the lighting
arkweld @ Sep 16th 2009 2:16AM
Yep. Decent bundle price but that case design doesn't say "modern" or "warfare."
It says "F-141" and "2."
They would have made the case more relevant if they had "bangbangbang" and "Aiiieeeeeeeeee!!" printed on it.
Good conversation piece though. Visitors will be continually asking you why you have an Xbox 141.
Cash @ Sep 16th 2009 2:45AM
I gotta agree on both counts: It looks a little goofy, but nowhere near as much as the Halo 3 Special Edition. I did a quick search for anything military related with the name or designation "F-141" and came up empty. It's not a plane, or a type of weapon or ammo that I can find. Worse then that, what the heck is up with the "High Speed - Low Drag" label on the front? It's a military fps, not racing sim for pete's sake.
Oh well, I'll be getting one HDD alone, and will be sticking my Halo 3 faceplate on it anyway so no big deal. Just an odd design choice...
elitewillie @ Sep 16th 2009 11:53AM
@Cash
Hi speed low draw no resistance is a military jump school saying. Special ops guys go to Airborne School and therefore the labeling on the xbox 360 is relevant to MW2 as those guys are Special ops.
Duke @ Sep 16th 2009 12:56PM
Cash, Task Force 141 is the multinational special operations group in the game. You play as one of them.
Ark Angel @ Sep 15th 2009 11:12PM

PERFECT.
Obie @ Sep 15th 2009 11:07PM
It looks sweet, but will it include the Prestige edition? Or just bare bones? If it's the basic edition I don't think it's such a great deal.
maveric101 @ Sep 15th 2009 11:11PM
new 360 Elite package + 1 wireless controller + MW2 basic = $410, with a 120GB drive.
with this, you get that, plus twice as large HDD (and possibly HD cables) for $400. i highly double wifi is included. but if you're in the market for a 360 and you're looking at getting MW2, this is a no brainer.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 15th 2009 11:17PM
You can get a wireless controller for $38 on Amazon. Plus $60 for the game (if you don't get a 10% off ECA deal) and you're talking break even except for the HDD size bump.
Stacky @ Sep 15th 2009 11:18PM
Agreed. Too bad everyone already has one.
NOT ME @ Sep 16th 2009 12:34AM
why do most people start quoting online prices. alot of people buy their controllers at the same time they buy the console. not to too many get the console then, go home and start internet shopping.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 16th 2009 1:20AM
I start quoting online prices because once people start talking about a "good deal" you want to compare it to actual good deals out there, instead of just listing list prices. Because just because something is less expensive than a bad deal doesn't mean it is a good deal. But if it's better than other good deals...
Vcize @ Sep 16th 2009 7:23AM
This comes with a wireless headset as well, so that's another 40 bucks if purchased separately.
ToadStoolPorridge @ Sep 16th 2009 9:18AM
This is a fantastic deal. Like others have said, you'd spend about $100 on the game and controller alone. Doubling the hard drive is just like a bonus at this price. I've been looking into getting a 360 ever since the price dropped, and now this might be the time to bite for me. Does anyone know if I'd be able to put faceplates over this system (or replace that faceplates, I don't know how it works on the 360s)? I don't think it looks bad, but after MW2 has been out for a while I may just want to get a plain black or white faceplate for it. Any possible help would be great, thanks guys.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 16th 2009 11:06AM
Amazon says it does not come with a wireless headset. It doesn't even come with a 2nd wired headset.
Obie @ Sep 16th 2009 11:15AM
I was not refering about the hardware standpoint, sure Wifi, battery packs and HD cables would make it really stand out. But since it's the "MW2" edition, why not at least throw in the Hardened edition? Just the bare bones game kinda sucks.
maveric101 @ Sep 16th 2009 11:39AM
@ToadStoolPorridge
yeah, you could replace that faceplate, but why would you want to? would kinda mess up the aesthetics of the whole system (you can't change the body).
ToadStoolPorridge @ Sep 16th 2009 1:14PM
Oooh, I didn't know that Maveric, thanks. I guess I'd just let it be au natural. I'm just glad a good bundle has come out and I might own a 360 pretty soon! XBL here I comeee!

No, the Wii is where 360 and PS3 gamers finally unite and bash.
At least we can respect PC gaming.
phinnvr6 @ Sep 15th 2009 11:08PM
Wow... dumb. This game will be best for PC anyway as the PS3 and 360 DLC will be free on PC like always.

Sly (PSN: SniperChameleon) @ Sep 15th 2009 11:20PM
ahh, another PC troll. can we have one FPS post without someone coming in and saying it's better on PC? hey troll, get this: we play on consoles for a reason.
Cheesus(Crust) @ Sep 15th 2009 11:29PM
Yeah, the overpriced DLC, runs at 1024*600 reason.
Oh wait...
Gamer4Life @ Sep 15th 2009 11:30PM
And that is because consoles were built to play games and PCs were built to work!
pocketcup @ Sep 15th 2009 11:46PM
@sly: because we can't afford a decent PCs, right?
That's mine anyway.
RKN @ Sep 15th 2009 11:48PM
We don't need a PC troll to make us PC gamers look bad. A PC is for everything, we have the option to play it on PC and consoles, we all win.
