At first glance I thought it was the soundtrack on vinyl... Now that would be a pre-order bonus

Yeah me to. It would have been so metal of them. I actually would have pre-ordered it. But turns out its just another piece of junk.

Too bad I don't have a Best Buy anywhere close to me.
Looks like I'll be purchasing from gamestop that way I still get the guitar.

Game Crazy gets the exact same sleeve. If you have a hollywood video or movie gallery, then you can check for a Game Crazy there.

Question, What is the point of pre-ordering? Before I thought it was just to reserve a copy in case they run out, but now its all this worthless crap that should be given to everyone since it cost the same when you buy the game after release

it guarantees the store a sale. it helps them not order too many. that way, they make more money.

preorder bonuses and store exclusives are also a good way for developers to combat money lost to used game sales

It also helps make sure you get a copy, as well as the bonus. I remember when i worked at gamestop, if there was an obscure game coming out that no one else really heard about or cared, we would either get one in without any of the extras, or none at all unless someone reserved it. It's even worse for PC games.
Rule of Thumb: if you reserve it, it will come.

Pre-order bonuses. Remember how many people were upset they couldn't get the gold weapons in Gears 2? I've got a few pre-orders of ODST in, because I'm sure come October people who didn't pre-order will wish they did so they could play with Sgt. Johnson. eBay, here I come!

And not only that, but I've "returned" pre-orders without having to return the pre-order bonus. :-D. I may get this bonus just to sell it later, too.

@ Traceur_Ryuk & Kira

The author calls it an LP sleeve. Which means 10" or 12" (and most commonly 12"). So it's either a 10" or 12" LP sleeve or the author has disrepected the vinyl-loving community with his ignorance.

And even if it is a 10" sleeve, that is still way too big for a CD or DVD.

This is more appealing to me than an in-game guitar.

The sleeve doesn't seem very scratch-proof (pun intended).

Just another humble reminder to Team Joystiq: Hook us up with some kind of 10 minute undo/edit button. Please and thanks, masters.

This is nothing new.., I received above pre-order item from Game Crazy either last week or the week before. A week to the day almost that Batman came out, because my old workmates from EIDOS comped me copies and I had to return the ones that I bought.

If this was an actual soundtrack on LP (even if it was just a few select songs, considering how many are in the game...) I'd be sold. Since it's just a CD sleeve, I'll pass

This is much better than the in-game guitar, I don't care for that much at all. At least this is something I'd like to have.

I just phones my local BestBuy here in south florida and they didn't know a thing about them, and were telling me that it didn't mention it on the site. I guess I'll need to walk in myself and look.
