FMV game 'Cobra Command' fully moving to iPhone

The latest game to be revived for iPhone is Cobra Command, a 1984 FMV shooter by Data East that puts you in the cockpit of a helicopter. Developer Revolutionary Concepts is revamping the interface (including tilt-based steering) and cockpit graphics, and is projecting an October release date.
Rights holder G-mode seems to be working hard to get its Data East games out, including recent releases, like Magical Drop on multiple platforms, and the (still unofficial) Wii collection. We appreciate that.

Buying is half the battle!
(unless it's at half price which would in turn make it a quarter of the battle)

Standing by for lawsuit announcement by Cobra Commander...

I saw that GI JOE Movie last night. What a piece of shit that was, holy hell talk about ruining something that could be good. The special effect where awful, the acting was awful, the action was awful, Every single person was miscast, And why was Dennis Quaid doing a bad John Wayne impression. Oh my god 20 mins in i was wishing it was over and it just kept going on and on.
Courtney @ Sep 15th 2009 11:19AM
I went in assuming that it would be the biggest pile of crap, that I would hate it and walk out of the theater pissed off. With expectations like that, I thought it was pretty fun to watch.
Eric @ Sep 15th 2009 11:20AM
See not me I i went in with a open mind. I found it boring and dumb.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Sep 15th 2009 11:26AM
I also enjoyed it. Especially after seeing Transformers 2, Joe was an Oscar winner compared to that pile o' crap.
It seemed like if all the vehicles and actors were toys, and a giant kid was playing with them, that's what would be going on. And that's the way it should've been.
My only gripe: Cobra Commander looking like a complete tool.
whylekat @ Sep 15th 2009 12:37PM
I refuse to see that film, possibly ever, for fear that it will destroy my childhood on multiple levels..
Kid Chemical @ Sep 15th 2009 11:03AM
It was pretty forgettable when it was re-released on Sega CD, probably still as forgettable.
If we were talking Road Avenger, then we'd be in business.

The Iphone is the new SEGA-CD.
On another note, I had the NES game Cobra Command as a kid. Man was that game AWESOME! I think I had to end up using the game genie @ the time to finish the game. The rescuing of the hostages was fun...as well as blowing up parts of the map to gain entrance the rest of the levels was amazing for it's time.
I'm gonna see if I can find this game @ a yard sale or flea market sometime soon so I can add it to my collection.
whylekat @ Sep 15th 2009 12:40PM
"The Iphone is the new SEGA-CD."
oh man if only that were true! I'd do almost anything for any re-release of Night Trap, Double Switch, and possibly Sewer Shark!
NintendoJunkie @ Sep 15th 2009 12:50PM
Was Night Trap the one w/ the girls in lingerie?
I remember my cousin had a SEGA-CD w/ Ground Zero Texas. It's really interesting how as something after 2D it was like FMV was an attempt @ the next thing in where game graphics would go. Thankfully 3D became the way to go.
whylekat @ Sep 15th 2009 1:29PM
Yes it was.. And it also featured BLOOD SUCKING VAMPIRES which in turn got it banned hahaha even tho there's really nothing like that. Except for 1 totally missable 15 second scene where you see a body hanging upside down and a bunch of tubing pumping "blood" - of course, instead you could have the "camera" on the room right next door which featured girls in pajamas..

I dumped a lot of quarters in this thing as a kid and never got real far, be nice to get these on XBLA

Loved this game growing up. Once spent the $10 I'd saved for a Duran Duran tape on it.
Douche Bigalow @ Sep 15th 2009 2:51PM
All I remember is shooting around the Statue of Liberty and Easter Island, but yeah this is a blast-from-the-past for me too.
MaxShrek @ Sep 15th 2009 3:58PM
Cool, now all we need is for somebody to get Star Rider on a home system.
Iwa @ Sep 15th 2009 5:42PM
I still have my copy of this game on the Sega CD. Great game. Here's hoping they bring Road Avenger to the iPhone/iTouch next.
Diskoboy7 @ Sep 15th 2009 7:14PM
I WANT CLIFF HANGER!
(And maybe Qube Quest)
ECVOICE @ Sep 15th 2009 7:54PM
This was one of my favorite, favorite games when I was a kid. Really hope it sees more life than just the iPhone, but if that's the best we're gonna get, I'll take it.

This is cool! G-mode okayed - a Road Avenger Novel too! I’ve read about it at SEGA-16 and their official publisher’s link is http://www.theroadavenger.com – I agree with Road Blaster needing to be ported but as well think that other licenses is a great thing besides bringing back FMV games. Maybe there is more to games than we think, at least from what I’ve seen of The Road Avenger.

A little birdy told me Road Avenger is coming soon ;)
I'd keep an eye out here: http://www.revolutionaryconcepts.net
