The rumor is true: Skate 3 will hit the streets next May. But this time around, EA's skateboarding franchise takes the action outside of San Vanelona, bringing players to the new town of Port Carverton. That isn't the only new thing the third installment offers, however, as the press release promises players will be able to team up and form skate crews to "complete challenges together while advancing each other's careers." This even includes new challenges in the Hall of Meat and an all-new Skate school for players of all skill levels.
EA is also promoting the Skate Create feature suite, an "innovative toolset that empowers gamers to truly express their skate style by creating their own graphics, videos, and skate parks," which should be available both online and offline. And if you find yourself extra anxious to fork over money for the game well before its release, a pre-order bonus in an in-game area called Black Box Distribution Skate Park should tickle your fancy. This area is none other than the "home turf of Zero, Mystery, and Fallen skate teams."
Skate 3 will be available on Xbox 360 and PS3 in May 2010.
Yeah, that would also be interesting and I thought about that before the first one came out, but I forgot the idea of it pretty quickly. When you think about it though, the learning curve is much steeper than like THPS, so there still was a considerable degree of learning tricks one at a time for a lot of people, but it would be interesting, though perhaps frustrating, if consistency, pop, balance, etc were built up like attributes/stats.
Something else that they better fix this time or I'll raise hell (or just be silently furious about...) is the fact that if you play S.K.A.T.E in Skate they don't count whether you do a frontside or backside spin. Easily the dumbest problem with the most simple fix, which is inexcusable.
I'm somewhat excited. I love Skate, but I agree with above comments that it's a bit soon.
I also can't believe no one pointed out the Darkslide yet. It's pretty cool if they include more of the unconventional tricks like this, but I also help they are insanely hard to pull of, when trying. Last thing I want is being able to do tripple rocket-air backflips to fingerflip with a Gene Simmons tonglash while jumping through a mountain filled with lava.
honestly, the THPS create a park feature was crippled and junk, it generally sucked. So yeah, it's a big deal, seeing as Skate has reinvented skateboarding games, they will probably make the best park editor we have seen. Of course, if you want 20 foot tall rails to handstand grind on, then you are welcome to go back to THPS...but I will stick with Skate 3.
I've been looking into scoring Skate2 from GS, used, for a bit now... Just waiting for the price to come down just a bit more. (Hell, got Shaun White for less than $17...) Not sure if I should now wait, play all the other games I've not finished/planned to get day 1, or still get Skate2 and get 3 sometime (waaaaay) after release...?
I hope they fix the framerate stuttering that's been bugging the shit out of me in Skate 2. Skate was the perfect skateboarding game, and Skate 2 was just a shell of its former self. I hope 3 changes that.
Judging by the early video, it's just gonna be another half-arsed update. I was disappointed by Skate 2 as it was effectively what Skate 1 should have been (at least it wasn't as shoddy a port from 360 to PS3 2nd time round); this, coupled with withholding features already in the game to try forcing a DLC purchase (yeah there was the bit about having longer videos, but seriously..?).. My friends and I won't be buying another Skate game until we see flatland tricks, and personally YouTube integration instead of using EA's servers.
I really want to see the original camera view from Skate. in Skate 3. And I also liked how the lighting changed whenever you got a combo. When you got a 1.5 combo the lighting turned more orange, when you got a 2.0 combo the lighting turned more yellow, when you got a 3.0 combo the lighting turned more green. I loved that. I really hope they have the option to do that in Skate 3. It made the look and feel better than skate 2's. If any of the devs see this comment, please add the things above! It would make the game that much better.
It would be nice to see them skip a year (so it doesn't go the route of the TH series). Although it's not a huge difference, I would love for a solid snowboarding game to come out. Be it somewhat realistic like the Amped series, or (my preference) something like SSX, I would be stoked. I haven't played a good snowboarding game since SSX 3. Blur wasn't bad (better than On Tour), but playing SSX 3 to 100% completion was one of the greatest experiences I've had on any console.
I don't mind it coming out every year, i always remember the wait till the next THPS..seeing the trailer just like this one and couldn't wait till that bitch came out. On the other hand we are right to all say it starts to get boring year after year. Maybe let this one slide i think and then complain about the next one being too early..this one has some goods to offer. I have certainly missed level/skatepark creators, hope they add that in rather than a few poxy ramps up for removal to create a spot.
I think it's the sort of thing where they say its "so called" releasing in may but then the end up pulling the release date back. You never know since it's only September.
