How awesome is this? SO AWESOME!

Between this and Okamiden (and Scribblenauts and Professor Layton and maybe Zelda), DSi is kicking ten kinds of ass again lately.

Never played the GBC version, also never heard of it. Watch the first video on YouTube there though, and it does look like a very entertaining platformer.

I'll be watching you Shantae.....

Wasn't this game franchise made/created/developed by Mark Bozon's brother?

WayForward has over and over again proven to be ace handheld developers. The original Shantae is great, Mighty Flip Champs is great, Contra 4 is great. It's great stuff.

Oh, and Duck Amuck, and all it's steedy goodness.

A download only game, no retail release. Means I'll probably never get to play it, since I don't see much point in spending $150 or more on a slightly enhanced DS.

And, there's also the fact that the big 3 stick such games on the download networks because they have no retail faith in them, all the while letting horrid amounts of total garbage out to retail. Shantae is DSiWare while we've had at least 30 games released in the USA this year which no one will ever buy.

It has nothing to do with the console manufacturers. Digital distribution allows developers to self-publish their games. Thus removing the publishing "middleman" on getting their games to the public.

Now, if WayForward wanted a retail release, they'd have to seek a contract with a publisher (Capcom published the original, and WF has worked with many other publishers, including the likes of Konami, Majesco, WB Games, etc.). And then there is a bigger risk involved.

This is US only, right (sorry Canada, you guys too. Oh yeah, and Mexico)?
This Aussie gamer learned his lesson and imported his DSi from the states. Anyone else considering importing remember that US uses 110v and all countries that didn't get independence before electricity was made use 230/240v!

My reaction:

New Shantae... OMG YES!
for DSiWare... Oh, crap.

I'm not buying a new DS for one game.

Well hope it does well. If it sells an unexpectedly high number of units, I would think that they may consider releasing all 3 episodes on a cartridge. I'll be picking it up, so they'll have at least $5. Wait, how much does publishing a game cost again...?

I'm going to have to write Matt Bozon and beg him to bring this to the PSP. Maybe it would fit into the Minis category? Even if not, it could still be sold in the PSN Store. I've been a fan of Wayforward since Sigma Star Saga, but I am not a fan of the DSi and its bizarre feature set.
