Of all the classic franchises we expected to be resurrected, ClayFighter was right up there with Aero the Acrobat. But we suppose there's room for everyone at the table, as Interplay has announced that they'll be bringing the bulbous brawler to WiiWare and DSiWare. Crafted by some of the team behind the original game (now operating under the name StudioBlack Games), the updates will sport revamped graphics and gameplay.
It's due in summer of 2010, so hopefully you have plenty of time to recommit Ickybod Clay's move set to memory.

Yes, I hate it!
When you beat the game, it gives you the code to unlock Boogerman... & it's wrong!!!!
Thank god for GamePro, even if it was a month after release.
Honestly, How did that make it into the final version?!?!
At age 13, I even wrote Interplay a letter of disappointment.

Joystiq.
While I'm awake at some annoying hour getting ready to take classes, then go to my job, and then my career fair later today (senior at unc), I just wanted to say thanks for posting this picture and reminding me of a time when things were much, much simpler in life.
*sigh*
Now if only someone would port Blast Corps to the XBLA.

Yeah, I don't remember saying any game was good or bad back then. We didn't care as long as we got games to play.
As a matter of fact, games with horrible gameplay and bad controls were often marked as "too hard". Somehow you were the one not being good enough. Made me play too many extra hours getting it right. Good times.

I just really hope they don't rape the franchise like that Wii Ready 2 Rumble.

I really liked this game, back when I was a kid. Not sure if I'll like it now, might actually buy a Dsi, if any good retail games come out for it, this would be a good "side game"

I hope it plays more like Street Fighter this time around and less like a clunkier Mortal Kombat.
Also, I hope they made a typo and meant to say Primal Rage.

I still play Aero once in a while. One of the best platformers on the SNES.

I have fond memories of this series that I'm 100% certain would be ruined by actually replaying it.
It could work great with current gen graphics as a Smash Bros style wacky 4 player fighter.

I remember the N64 release, and this game being flaunted as the premier fighter.
Five years later, the N64 died with about five fighting games to its name.
Yeah, this series deserves a second chance, right up there with Army Men.

One of those five was Killer Instinct Gold.
This makes the fact that the N64 had 5 fighting games ok.

I don't recall playing this one, sure I did though. I hope it has aged better than the SNES clay fighter - talk about noticing the choppy frame rate nowadays.
I do not think this bested KI64 though.

WHY???
Both games had horrible control damn I remember and the graphics granted the second looked better doesnt mean its plays better.
There are so many other great classic games out there that should be ported over why this one??

I owned this game when I was a kid. I remember seeing the box and being like "!?"
Then I played it and I have to say I liked it. It was one of the first games I recall with a bit of a 3D element added to the 2D fighting.
Sure, the gameplay was a bit wonky, but the absurd characters and the tacky catchphrases made up for it.
And how can you go wrong with Earthworm Jim in clay-mation combat?
I had some good times playing this as a kid. Isn't that the reason we play games in the first place?

This was my favorite game as a kid. I had Clayfighter, Clayfighter: TE, Clayfighter 2: Judgement Clay, and Clayfighter 63 1/3. I was pissed off, though, that they made a special edition version of 63 1/3 for blockbuster that essentially fixed all of the bugs and added a ton more characters and moves. Maybe this WiiWare version can bring the joy back to playing fighting games for me.

Ugh. This game was essentially a huge disappointment for me. The character premises were quirky and entertaining, but the presentation was just majorly lacking.
I really liked the sequel on SNES. I was hoping for more of an improved iteration of that. Instead we just got, as samfish said, a "clunkier Mortal Kombat."
And the camera *trying * to rotate around the action... ugh... That looked horrible. Doesn't really work to have a 3D, roaming camera when the characters themselves (i.e. the focus of the action) literally have no depth. That was way too distracting.
Boogerman and Earthworm Jim were chuckle-worthy inclusions, but I specifically remember Jim being one of the worst-playable characters in the game.
Not that I'd have access to it anyway, but I'll pass on any kind of "revamp."

Oh, cannonballs! It's only for Wii. I would have loved to play this online in XBLA.
Still, I'm looking at the off chance to get a DS, so it might be in the cards for me.

Ha, I remember school day arguments over which console was superior. I'd always stear the topic to fighting games, mentioning how the Saturn had Virtua Fighter 1+2+Kids, Fighters Megamix, Street Fighter Alpha 1+2, etc, and some N64 kid would always talk up this game and Fighters Destiny. They always got shouted down and laughed out the playground.
Then Smash Bros got released.

I don't wanna hear any more complaints about Clayfighter. Its still better than the "3d ballz" fighting game. eeew.

Besides all that, everybody knows that Superman 64 is the benchmark for terrible video games.
