i'm so hyped for this multiplayer. all the new attachments, perks, and killstreaks/deathstreaks just sound plain awesome. and silenced sniper rifles and silenced shotguns are gonna be sick.

A simple "Zombie" mode with enemy soldiers that continuously spawn and increase in numbers/difficultly would still be lots of fun IMO.

You start to have a day where you just can't seem to play well, you pop in there with a friend and boost that confidence up then jump back into the multiplayer.

Since it's "modern" warfare, Terminators or something like them would be a sweet alternative to zombies, I think.

"What about something like the Zombie Mode that Treyarch did for World at War?

[Silence.]

It's too bad our audio recorder doesn't record the sound of eyes rolling.

That's why I did it! [Laughs.]"

Aww, that's sweet. He has to put up a tough front, but inside he's sad because Infinity Ward wasn't clever enough to think up something as successful as Zombie mode.

1 sad MW DLC pack compared to 3 World at War DLC packs.

Just goes to show that Treyarch has overtaken Infinity Ward as a developer.

Well, Treyarch has not overtaken IW, but I will say they do provide bettter support and they don't have that damn exclusive microsoft contract that IW has. As a PS3 owner, I get very pissed off at IW even though I recognize they have a better game. And I really hate IW's community manager more than any other in the industry. I was hoping they would replace him before this game came out.

please tell me your kidding. they had time to make three dlc packs because the game and packs were glitchy and bad. i would much rather have 1 map pack with the game and pack being amazing then 14 map packs and waw (ie not fun, etc.). the terrible nature of call of duty 3 proves that waw was not just a one-off bag game but a series of under developed games. he rolled his eyes because they (treyarch) took infinity ward's game and put in a popular BUT out of place, time waster of a mini-game and now people are begging them to include it as well.

Why do I get the continued feeling after this interview that MW2 is mostly a graphical update on COD4 (outside of customizable killstreaks, new unknown perks, and host migration)?

Not that that isn't appreciated, but it doesn't sound like any notable changes, mechanics-wise, are coming to the table this November.

The Co-op mode is new, and it looks fun as hell (if it's anything like the last mission from COD4). Other than that, there are new maps, new guns, new gameplay modes, etc.

I'm glad they didn't change the actual mechanics (seemingly) because the mechanics in COD4 are among the best of any FPS game I've ever played.

Just your comment about the terminator suggestion. It doesn't matter if it's "modern" or "future" warfare to have cybernetic organisms wreaking havoc on mankind...because it's a video game.

you said it should have terminators because it's modern. show me a terminator in real life, right now, and i'll agree. if you said it should have terminators just to have terminators, i wouldn't have said anything, because that would be badass.

Disclaimer: I really, really like Call of Duty 4 (Modern Warfare! There, I said it!), and I will be purchasing the sequel. I also really, really like World at War as well.

That said, this Zampella guy sort of comes off as a cad. Maybe it was the fact that this interview is transcribed to print, so it's a bit harder to discern the nuances of the conversation and the possibility of sarcasm, but the whole eye-roll response to a question concerning Zombies Mode comes off as childish.

My first guess is to think that the response is born out of the commonness of the question, but it's hard not take into account the negative comments IW has made about Treyarch in the past (I know it was IW Community Manager Robert Bowling that made some of the most negative comments, not Zampella). With that taken into account, I somewhat interpret the eye-roll as saying that he refuses to acknowledge Zombie Mode as a viable and engaging feature added to the Call of Duty series simply because IW didn't develop it.

Speaking of which, what's with the constant affirmation by IW that they developed the Call of Duty "universe"? Most of us reading these articles know this already. And frankly, I consider it hard to call it a "universe." Call of Duty is/was a WWII-based shooter, and WWII was already well-tred ground before certain IW developers tackled it back when they were with 2015.

Is Zampella claiming IW created WWII-based shooters? Of course not, but it does seem to be a sign of some sort of inferiority complex by IW with claims of dominion over an IP they don't even control in entirety (and presents a bit of irony, considering how much it appears they'd like to leave the title 'Call of Duty' behind them).

IW makes a great game, so let the game do the talking. Giving us consumers information about the game is great as well. There's no need to disparage others (i.e. Treyarch) during the promotion of said game. There were many ways he could have answered that question regarding zombie mode politely, yet firmly without coming off as a heel.

I like each game in the series I've played (Yes, that includes 3. Get over it.) and agree: This guy is definitely not projecting a positive image for IW. Honestly, snubbing that question was nothing short of childish, at least answer it properly. And to the support question, I definitely have my opinion on what to expect: An empty gesture nearly 2 years down the line patch-wise. People rip on Treyarch constantly, but there is one thing they definitively hold over IW at present, and that's continued support for their product. Just chipping in my two cents.

I don't think that might have been meant to be on the record. When the joystiqer noted the recorder not being able to pick up on eye rolls, he said "That's why I did it."

I don't think the issue is that IW feels they created the WWII genre, but made a really good game franchise known for it's polish and well executed set pieces and called it Call of Duty.

When Activision allows someone else to come in and use that title to make an arguably worse game (according to reviews comparing CoD 2 & 3, and then again for MW and W@W) but use the same name, that could be frustrating. Of course you're right, and all that is old hat. However, perhaps in the collective Infinity Ward Hive mind, they are totally seperate franchises, and they wouldn't want to rip off any ideas, whether they are good ones or not.

Perhaps what IW is missing is that ripping off ideas doesn't just have to happen between titles that share the same name. I.E. Zombies, Horde, Firefight. I think an 'Onslaught' could be a cool addition, but I don't disagree with their decision as a developer to not include a "Zombies." I look forward to seeing their coop challenge rooms, which when you look at it, isn't at it's core much different than zombies, just more complex (i don't know, we'll see how frantic it gets); and probably meant as their answer to Nazi Zombies.

I have W@W on Wii and love it. I recently bought a PS3 slim and I'm downloading the W@W demo to try it. I don't understand the attitude IW has against Treyarch. If you're a fan of a certain version of COD then you know who made that version. I don't think many people are confusing IW and Treyarch. I know IW started the series, but I give credit to Treyarch for following COD4 with a great game that had a cool mode and for giving Wii owners some attention. Mr. Zampella should remember that I can get the games used which still gets me the game, but no cut for IW, or buy the ones Treyarch has made. For me, Modern Warfare and Modern Warfare2 are competing for my attention. I'll probably make my next COD purchase decision based on IR vs dual analog.
