Star Ocean: The Last Hope International lives up to its name

Since the Japanese game will include the English voice acting from the American release of the Xbox 360 version, localization time for this title is nil, there will be only five days between the Feburary 4 release in Japan and the February 9 North American release date! It's an achievement made possible by ... the game having already been released a year ago.
In addition to English and Japanese voices, this version includes French, Italian, German, and Spanish language options. And, perhaps most importantly for new players, the "running on a PS3" option.

This is blood for blood and by the gallon. These are the old days, the bad days, the all-or-nothing days. They're back! There's no choice left. And I'm ready for war.

Is it just me or does it seem like anyone with a SackBoy avatar gets themselves downvoted? I guess I shouldn't talk, but it's something I couldn't help notice.
Sly (PSN: SniperChameleon) @ Sep 16th 2009 8:02PM
The history of these days will be written in blood. By crushing the armies of our enemy, by seizing the weapons they thought to turn against us, we were fighting for our very existence. But if there are those who would deny us peace; refuse us our rightful place in the universe, then we will unleash such terrible vengeance that generations yet unborn will cry out in anguish!

I'm not sure because I never tried it on the Xbox360, but are the flaws of this game simple enough to fix in a re-release or is this just a waste of time?
I'm finding it difficult to figure out why I should care about this coming to the PS3. From what I understand it wasn't very good and adding voice languages doesn't seem to be enough to entice me.
Correct me if I'm wrong. Like I said I never tried it on the Xbox360.
Alton Brown [ XBL: LordToastington, Soon-To-Be-PSN: OrIsItAltonBrown] @ Sep 16th 2009 7:43PM
I didn't care for it from a story standpoint. Also, the voicework was atrocious. Unless you REALLY like Star Ocean, I'd wait for Vesperia.
Gavin @ Sep 17th 2009 9:05AM
I think Star Ocean's "flaws" are unfortunately intentional design choices...
killdash9 @ Sep 16th 2009 7:36PM
The press release says, "Exhilarating combat expands upon the franchise's dynamic real-time battle system, now featuring amazing graphics through Blu-ray Disc." They're increasing texture resolutions to absurd levels or something? Incredibly dense polygon models? Seems an odd marketing point.
The Baron @ Sep 16th 2009 8:03PM
Maybe they just optimised it quite nicely and figured they'd give themselves a pat on the back. Or it could just be a marketing point due to absence of any others.
LegendaryRedass @ Sep 16th 2009 7:41PM
The voice acting in English was hilarious, it would almost be worth buying again to see it in French.
Gibbeynator @ Sep 16th 2009 7:43PM
Ooh, I love the PS3 compatible feature.
Misanthropic Gamer @ Sep 16th 2009 7:49PM
Who cares anyway? The game sucked balls. Another tedious RPG with a boring plot, annoying characters, and uninspired gameplay. Not even worth a rental.
Kevin949 @ Sep 16th 2009 7:55PM
at least you don't die if you run out of HP OR MP in this game, unlike the PS2 star ocean.
Now THAT was stupid.
Gavin @ Sep 17th 2009 9:09AM
But does it still have the idiotic 'shot in the dark' item creation system of SO2 &3?? my god that was annoying –– here, i've somehow chosen the right materials to make a special item (because the game doesn't tell me what i need to make anything or what I could make with my selected items) but wait, I seem to have failed because my skill level is too low!
large chunk of the game = horse $%^*
Josh @ Sep 16th 2009 7:49PM
"In addition to English and Japanese voices, this version includes French, Italian, German, and Spanish language options."
Is that on every copy of the disc?
If so, I love Blu-ray.
Jampirow @ Sep 16th 2009 7:57PM
Yeah. Even the Japanese version has everything.
Copland @ Sep 16th 2009 8:52PM
Optional voice overs(language), plus! you don't gave to change discs all the time!!!
I think thats the biggest advantage of Blu-ray.
I heard that you need to change discs if you want to go back to certain villages for the 360 version.

The rest, were.

Kenoji (aka Neo Asuma) @ Sep 16th 2009 9:42PM
Wow, you never hear French voices in many games! I might consider picking this up because of this, though from what I saw, boss battles are kinda long and you have to grind a ton. But the gameplay looks fun (like Till the End of Time).
Well, at least the voice acting won't be unbearable in this version.
Kenoji (aka Neo Asuma) @ Sep 17th 2009 2:49AM
Just found out that the subtitles will be in different language formats, not the voice acting. Voice acting will be in Japanese and English formats, while the subtitles can be in English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, and Italian.
Josh @ Sep 17th 2009 10:10AM
Oh, then this Joystiq post was LIES
Also, did the 360 version only have one voice track?
Zerokku @ Sep 16th 2009 10:01PM
And the game will suck as badly on the PS3 as it did the 360.
ibetnoonehasthisname @ Sep 16th 2009 10:19PM
Well, it's about fucking time!
sk8monroe81 (PSN--XBL) @ Sep 16th 2009 11:51PM
I actually enjoyed the game on the 360, not buying it a 2nd time, but this sounds like the better version coming out, though late. similar to the ps3 release of bioshock with the extras, but i had already played the game a year earlier.
either way enjoy or hate the game, for some reason a lot of people seemed to dislike it much.
hint: if you dont like JRPS then dont play the game, if you do theres a chance the game wont be too bad especially for the new battle real time battle system which even differs from other new real time battle games such as infinite undiscovery..
the real time battle system is a big part of the enjoyment i had with those 2 games since it changes some basic mechanics of a JRPG. nothing against turn based battle's, but i really enjoyed the change, since battles and ranking up is pretty much a large part of what i seem to do when i play those type of games.
Jeff @ Sep 17th 2009 12:21AM
I don't care about the actual game, as RPGs in general and JRPGs specifically aren't my thing, but Star Ocean is a really cool phrase.
Collymilad @ Sep 17th 2009 6:53AM
Lol....
Loving all the PS3 fangirls saying "thanks for testing"
Yeah, thanks for waiting a year, dipshits - and getting a few paltry extras chucked in to keep you happy. For us it's old news and we've moved onto whatever games have come out since.
Idiots.
Akira @ Sep 17th 2009 8:03AM
I was personally quite dissapointed with this game but it's great to see more RPG's coming to PS3. Is this just a port or will it have new content?
Akira @ Sep 17th 2009 8:08AM
You obviously don't play many JRPG's lol. That is Edge Maverick the lead character and it's a boy.
