250GB Forza Motorsport 3 bundle announced for UK, South Africa

Are you seeing a pattern yet? After an early reveal, Microsoft has officially announced a 250GB Xbox 360 bundle in the UK and South Africa – including Forza Motorsport 3 (standard edition), two wireless controllers, and a headset – all for price of £249.99 or R4,999 (that's $413 and $680 earth bucks, respectively). The bundle will be available on October 23, alongside the game.

Like the recently announced Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 bundle, this Forza 3 "Super Elite" bundle includes the not-available-separately 250GB hard drive, lending credence to the theory that Microsoft will only be including the beefier drive in bundle form. Unlike the Modern Warfare 2 bundle, we don't expect the Forza Xbox to be Forza-themed.

Interestingly, not all bundles will include this 250GB option: take the similarly European 120GB Halo 3: ODST bundle which swaps the 250GB upgrade for a copy of Halo 3. What's still not clear is if any of these foreign bundles will make their way to North America or if the Modern Warfare 2 bundle gets the 250GB drive all to itself.

this is RETARDED, they NEED bundles like this in the US to compete with the PS3 slim. if they keep restricting these bundles to smaller markets such as the UK and S. Africa, which in the long run are a small percentage of their global install base, they are going to be run over by Sony.

The US is getting the Modern Warfare bundle, Europe is getting the Forza one, most likely because racing games sell ridiculously well over here.

Shame there's no special design for this one. A bright orange 360 would have been both cool and completely disgusting.

Snowblind you reckon a MW2 themed bundle wouldn't sell over here????

Looks like Microsoft realizes that the 360 is a poor value compared to the PS3, so they're throwing out some random bundles in a desperation attempt to entice consumers.

Not a bad plan, but the rumored Uncharted 2 PS3 Bundle is a much, much better deal. Value, and gaming wise.

That was updated as a "complete fabrication" unfortunately.

Not to say that Uncharted 2 isn't a game worth purchasing a PS3 for anyway. Just like Drake's Fortune.

Random bundles? How are they random? The Modern Warfare 2 bundle for the US market is a HUGE coup for Microsoft. CoD4 is the second best selling game on the 360 and MW2 is projected to be the best selling game this year. It's a brilliant move on Microsoft's part for the holiday shopping season as is Sony's Uncharted 2 bundle. Everyone wins here.

guess this is a decent way to combat Forza and Uncharted 2/MW2 on the PS3. Not a bad idea but it will not equal out for the sales lost by not having a Gears/Halo game come out this Q4

though it's technically tail end of Q3, wouldn't Halo 3: ODST fill that Gears/Halo bucket?

Uh, Forza isn't on the PS3, and there's a Halo game coming out next week.

We've run over this ground before. ODST is going to sell, quite well (especially with that neat-o ad campaign), but it's capacity to move 360's is going to be diminished by the fact that the existing Halo fanbase probably bought a 360 2 years ago...

Yea Khan I agree with you....anyone who is a Fan of Halo most likely already has at LEAST 1 Xbox 360 already....

sorry i meant GT and apparently thats a fatal mistake on the internet. i realize that they are different games for different systems by different devs. I just got off the phone with an Hour and a half long helpdesk call with someone who didnt understand what WinZip was. Sorry internet.

And Khan and Chris understood what i meant. No matter how good ODST is, it will not sell like Halo 1, 2, or 3 did and it does not have the ability to move hardware like those games and Gears did. My point is that someone looking to come into this gen isnt going to get the 360 over the PS3 at the 300 price point unless there is some good reason to. like 2 controllers, a game they will get any way and a 250 gig HDD.

Halo 3 ODST was at 1.2 million preorders last week. It might not sell as well as Halo 3, but it WILL sell.

I would just want a L4D2 controller with zombie hand prints where my hands would be placed... I'd definitely pick on up if it was wireless...

If they made a L4D2 controller, it would definitely be wireless.

It's a good idea to spread this sort of thing out (since Forza reaches to different people), but it makes you wonder when they'll actually release the 250 GB as a direct retail product.

Pretty much after all the bundles have run their course and sold through the channel, then they'll offer the drive separately. It's all about making money, and that I would think would make the most money.

The MW2 bundle isn't coming to Europe and the ODST/Forza ones aren't coming to the US. Did you think the 250gb HDD's would be exclusive to one country?

Snowblind, I don't know that I agree. If they meant it had no life outside bundles, they would have said "outside bundles", not "outside the MW2 bundle".

I do agree on your second point though, the person speaking was only speaking for the North America region. The 250GB is an enticement for the bundles this Xmas. There will likely be a 250GB bundle for each significant region (game chosen to be whatever the MS people think would do best in the region). And there will be no 250GB drive sold separately or outside of a bundle.

At least until after Xmas.

Every time I hear that MS isn't releasing a 250GB HDD seperately, it makes me cringe inside. Maybe it'll be available "coincidentally" when the rumored 250GB PS3 does too.

It's likely this 250GB drive will be less than 250 dollars. At least that's less than a dollar a gigglebyte. You have to admit, that's progress. And progress is rather limited when talking about Microsoft's Xbox division.

I figure if the 250 GB HDD is sold separately, it'd take the 120's original $179.99 price. The 120 itself is down to $120-30, though I only paid $80 for mine brand new at Walmart.

Yeah, I think the whole reason they aren't selling the 250gb at the moment is that the price would be ridiculous. People are still happily (well maybe not happily) buying the 120gb one at its current price, so they have no reason to lower it right now and bring in a new one.

When they do eventually start selling them though, I think that's what they'll do. Lower the 120gb price and bring in the 250 at $180.

I heard the US version comes will all 10 Band/DJ/Guitar Heroes, 4 guitars, 3 drums, 2 mics, and a turntable. Also, you're required to give Mr. Kotick your first born. It's called the Bundle of Joy Edition*.

Wouldn't they be enabling 250Gb harddisks with a small firrmware update when the bundles come out? Then maybe we can just replace the HD with a compatible 250GB one. But the thing is will they preinstall the firmware update in the bundle consoles or will they do it via Live, that's what would matter

Oh, I suspect we'll see these 250GB drives on eBay shortly after the bundles hit the shelves.

And it probably won't be too long after that, that we'll see a hack from the modding community that lets you put the 250GB firmware on a compatible hard drive, for those brave enough to try it themselves.

Unfortunately, I'm not in the "brave enough" category...

Any Forza 3 bundle should have the force feedback wheel included, as well. It's kinda boring playing Forza with the plain ol' controller.

I wil try to get my hands on every bundle released by MS, no matter if they are region restricted . cause them bundles will look mad sweet on a shelf above my flat screen lcd tv. just like my NY caps look sweet above my bed..

The 120GB hard drive is £120 here right, so if you take into account microsofts
£1 per Gig then you are getting the MW2 and Forza Elites (and Games and Controllers) for free with the purchase of a 250GB hard drive....
