Fallout 3 GOTY edition, PS3 DLC dated

Bethesda assured us that the Fallout 3 downloadable content packs for PS3 would be available starting at the "end of September," and, as promised, Broken Steel will be up on September 24. It'll be followed by Operation Anchorage and The Pitt on October 1, and Point Lookout and Mothership Zeta on October 8. Today, the publisher released an update for Fallout 3 to add trophy support for these DLC packs. In just a few weeks, PS3 owners will be totally caught up with Xbox gamers! Except, of course, for the ... many hours of gameplay required to complete any of these packs.

Bethesda also confirmed the October 13 release date for the Fallout 3 Game of the Year edition, available on PS3, Xbox, and 360, and including the game and all the DLC. It will indeed cost $59.99, as retailers listed the title last month.

I'm so excited to get back into the Fallout 3 universe. I played the main campaign with my boyfriend's copy, but I decided to wait out the summer for the GOTY edition since used copies are still 50-60 fucking dollars.

Totally worth the wait.

Damn, that's a good deal. I already have the full game though, so I may wait for it to drop down to a few quid (as Morrowind and Obliviion have) and enjoy all the DLC some rainy day in the indeterminate future.

So... which ones are the ones worth getting?

I heard that actually only two of the DLC packs are worth the money they are asking for it. Which ones are those? Is it the one that removes the "Game Over" ending and the one that raises the level cap?

Broken Steel lifts the level cap from 20 to 30 and continues the story past the main game. It still doesn't give the game a proper ending by far in my opinion, I was waiting for a more conclusive ending to this game like Fallout 1 and 2. : (

The ones you described are actually the same DLC, Broken Steel. The Pitt lets you explore Pittsburgh, Point Lookout sends you to a swamp filled hillbilly wasteland, while Operation Anchorage and Mothership Zeta are more action oriented.

Point Lookout and Broken Steel are definitely worth getting. Operation Anchorage is okay, but the rewards (especially the Chinese Stealth Armor) are fantastic. I haven't played the others...yet.

Really you were expecting that? Why? There WAS an ending to the game, everyone complained, so they released DLC that was designed specifically to eliminate the hard-stop. Broken-steel is the epilogue to the ending of the game, and then leaves the world open for more. If you want a solid ending, why not just avoid Broken Steel?

Can't wait to trade in my Fallout 3 copy for the Game of the Year Edition! Why buy the packs separate, when you can get them all on a nice disc? That's my reasoning anyway, I'm patient enough to wait. Made sure to contact Bethesda, and they said save files and the like will definitely transfer over.

This game is by far my biggest "surprise" hit of the year. I thought I would hate it.

I already paid 69.99 for the Nice disc back when it first came out , so why waste another 69.99 for another nice disc that makes the first useless when I can buy all of em for $20 less. Thats assuming they are 9.99 each in Canada also

An extra $20 for the GOTY(based on having the game already) aint worth it no matter how you look at it.

It is if you want a physical copy of the DLC that you can later resell. If you download the DLC from the PSN you won't be able to sell it, let a friend borrow it etc. If your really patient you could wait even longer and get the GOTY edition when it eventually goes on sale i.e. Amazon Gold Box deal.

It does make sense if you are a stickler for physical media because you own a fully transferable copy of the game and all of the DLC.

Well, I got the first one (Collector's Edition) for $30 during the whole CC going out of business... so I got a really good deal there. Plus when I do a trade in, I'm hoping for at least $25 in credit... so the final price for me is going to be around $35, I hope. Not sure the prices on the DLC, but there's four packs, right? If they're $10 each, then it'd be $40 for the DLC?

Either way, I like the physical aspect on top of it all, so I'm willing to pay some extra, especially since I got such a good initial deal.

How does that make any sense?

All of the DLC = $50
Game of the year edition with all DLC included = $60

So assuming you can sell your old copy of Fallout 3 for more than 10 bucks (which trust me, you can) you'll come out way ahead of just buying the DLC separately. That's not to mention that the new disk you get now comes with a much higher resale value since you can now sell it the DLC as well.

How do these expansions work? Do you start at level one with a whole new character or? The level cap is increased to 30 isn't it? So are these expansions big enough to get a character from level one to 30 or?

If I'm not mistaken, its like adding extra missions and locations to the base game, so its a seamless transition. Its not a traditional 'expansion pack' in the sense that this truly does expand the original game.

It adds in the extra stuff. Loading up your Save file puts you right where you were same levels, so if you finished the game at lvl 20 you can get right to work on getting up to lvl 30.

I can't wait for the GOTY edition. I rented Fallout 3 last year and loved it, and I'm excited to buy the GOTY and finally play all the DLC. I only hope that Fallout 3 GOTY recognizes my Fallout 3 save as being the same game so I can continue where I left off.

If you didn't want to pay that price for it, you should have waited. It's not like anyone is really that surprised, given that Oblivion received the same treatment.

Plus 360's who got the DLCs get a free Sickass Amazing Looking Theme, man I hope they make a theme half as good for PS3

Anyone who buys anything day one gets the shaft by your definition then. Whether it's sale prices, used prices, or GOTY versions, it always pays to wait.

But, on the other hand, you've already played the game (I assume). That initial investment means you have access to the game while those that don't pay, don't get to play.

All this version does is have the potential to atract new consumers to an old product on the market. What's so bad about that?

If you want it now, you gotta pay; if you want it cheaper, you gotta wait.

I have to disagree with you, these "game of the year edition" are great way for a publishers and developers start a new promotion campaign for a game one year or two after it's 1st released. For gamers who do not like buying DLC (like my self) this a great deal for us.

I've put the brakes on. I have finally had my fill of Fallout 3, clocking in at 80+ hrs. It got a bit boring once your leveled up to the higher 20s and I can't imagine starting a new game again just for the challenge of it. My rankings for the DLC:

1. Point Lookout
2. The Pitt
3. Broken Steel
4. Operation Anchorage (sucked)

Omg this the is news I been wait for. I already have Fall Out 3 pc but ahu... I lets just say it runs the game just fine but it does not look good at all just running on my laptop graphics card. "including the game and all the DLC. It will indeed cost $59.99," Seems like a great deal for any one wanting to play the game for the 1st time or who have the pc game & didn't get any dlc or the game did not run well. Cant wait to see megaton go boom in full 1080p. LOL yes I am fed up.
