Konami producer: 'we gave up the Konami ID system'
While it's not clear if the jettisoning of Konami IDs extends beyond the confines of Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 and into Konami's corporate plans going forward, fans of the stalwart soccer franchise can breathe a sigh (of relief, this time!) as producer Shingo "Seabass" Takatsuka told G4 that Konami's much maligned authentication system would not be appearing in PES 2010. "We got so many feedback from the users saying the same thing as you said," Takatsuka said, referring to the poor experience relayed to him. "So, we gave up the Konami ID system."
That they gave up the system on Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 is clear; whether all online-enabled Konami games in the future will abandon the redundant authentication system is still unclear. After a clumsy Metal Gear Online launch, thanks to the Konami ID servers crashing, and Kojima's impression that the system was "not working well," we're inclined to think we won't be seeing it on future Kojima Productions titles either. We've asked Konami to comment on Takatsuka's comment and clarify the status of the Konami ID system going forward.

Please don't steal how I say word. Werd?
I don't need peoples stealing how I talk.
StooOOOoops.
Kinsey @ Sep 17th 2009 7:12PM
Well great for the new games coming but I want it gone on the past games damn it!
Cheesus(Crust) @ Sep 17th 2009 3:43PM
While MGO was the best online game ever(still is!), the Konami ID might have been too cumbersome for some people. It worked good for me, but having it linked to the PSN instead of the ID, would have been much better, and I bet TONS more people would have played it.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 17th 2009 3:52PM
Wait wait wait wait wait...
Best online game ever?
If you mean this generation, then Call of Duty 4, Halo 3, and Warhawk say "Hi!".
If you mean ever ever, then Counter-Strike, Halo 2, and SOCOM 2 would like to have a word with you. Don't worry, they'll be gentle.
Cheesus(Crust) @ Sep 17th 2009 4:02PM
Maybe not to you, but to me, it was certainly the best. Up there with COD and TF2
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 17th 2009 4:05PM
TFC >>> TF2
Unfortunately most people never got to experience TFC in it's day.
Jason Statham (Has a ps3 now) @ Sep 17th 2009 4:07PM
"While MGO was the best online game ever"
Yeah...no, not even close.
Geist @ Sep 17th 2009 4:08PM
Yeah, I'd say it's better than 'Generic FPS multiplayer in a different setting'.
Wow another capture the flag game mode? Fantastic!
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 17th 2009 4:11PM
@Geist
So you're comparing MGO to... What exactly?
There is nothing really that relates to MGO. So saying it's the best at it's genre is like saying it's better than nothing.
Hell, I preferred Splinter Cell's online on the PS2 / Xbox to MGO.
Jawmuncher (PSN & XBL:Jawmuncher) @ Sep 17th 2009 4:24PM
It's just his opinion don't know why he got downvoted.
We need to save that for a comment like
"MGO is good it beats everything on 360 or something like that"
He wasn't starting anything just stating how he felt about MGO.
Cheesus(Crust) @ Sep 17th 2009 4:32PM
@Jawmuncher
Yeah, I just said it was the best for ME!, not you guys!
But if you guys wanna troll, and say no one is allowed to love MGO and post a comment about it on a MGO related board, then you can go suck it.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 17th 2009 4:48PM
You didn't say "I think MGO is..."
You simply said "IT IS".
No you suck it, sir.
Jason Statham (Has a ps3 now) @ Sep 17th 2009 5:12PM
sigh, should have suspected I'd be downvoted.
Marius @ Sep 17th 2009 5:26PM
It was quite enjoyable, i played it for half a year before I moved on
gimboa @ Sep 17th 2009 5:49PM
Agreed that MGO was better than a lot of other games.
Of course it's implicit that this is an opinion and others can disagree, but so many multis like Warhawk and Halo, while extremely good for what they are, don't have the suspense and, to me, intensity that MGO has. The fear of combat really comes through in MGO, and it's amazing to me that most folks don't like it very much.
But such is life. Konami ruined this game by putting this sign-in on it. I hope there is an update coming so that it works on PSN. I also think it should have been a stand alone title instead of tacked onto MGS4. Downloadable, $30, lots of maps, and PSN. Breaks my heart that it will never get the recognition it deserves from a lot of people who would love it if they realized it was more than a slow paced COD4.

THANK GOD!!!!
now if they would Patch MGO so it didnt use the shit...I would start playing it again
Jawmuncher (PSN & XBL:Jawmuncher) @ Sep 17th 2009 3:51PM
In all honesty seems a lot of people gave up on MGO due to the Konami ID.
Shame since the MP is pretty good. They could make up for it with a Trophy patch in the SP game....Just Saying!
m3nphls @ Sep 17th 2009 3:52PM
yup, having to go through 2 log in systems....i gave up on playing
the Sawyer family @ Sep 17th 2009 3:52PM
AMEN
PR0F3TA (PSN - PROPHETA) @ Sep 17th 2009 3:59PM
amen! I think that people who now have bought stuff on the Konami website and insvested hours in MGO would not like the sudden change... or the income of n00bs lol
Nathan @ Sep 17th 2009 4:05PM
I would have played MGO a lot more without that system for sure. It'd be great if they did patch it out but it would be pretty unlikely at this point.
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 17th 2009 4:08PM
I wouldnt be TOO much of a n00b...I did play for a month or so....lol...but just mostly in games where it was straight hand to hand combat....
and the more I think about this...I wonder if it has to do with MG:Rising being on 360 and MS not being cool with the Konami log-in...does anyone know if any version of PES on 360 made use of that?
kentuckyfried @ Sep 17th 2009 6:37PM
I think they'd have to re-release MGO altogether in order for the Konami ID system to not be used at all.
Robobagins @ Sep 17th 2009 3:48PM
Yeah, MGO never really caught on with my friends because of the Konami ID system.
el serpiente @ Sep 17th 2009 3:57PM
Really, I think for a lot of people it absolutely killed it. It was definitely an interesting approach to multiplayer, but after forgetting both my konami ID and password multiple times, it's hard not to say "f*ck it".
Dustin @ Sep 17th 2009 3:55PM
Good. when I had the MGO beta I was like, wtf is this? Thats what the PSN is for. Lame to have a network inside of a network.
aaronx_x @ Sep 17th 2009 3:56PM
that shit was a mess within a mess. even buying dlc.. tragic. thanks!
tmmoore_nc @ Sep 17th 2009 4:02PM
They finally surrendered...TO THE PATRIOTS!
Meghterb @ Sep 17th 2009 4:11PM
MGO failed because of this problem plus Konami`s stupid server. MGO could`ve been one of the best online games ever made.
I still play it though, servers and players are getting worse and worse ..
wisconsinista @ Sep 17th 2009 5:09PM
Agreed. The amount of hosts that leave a TSNE game the moment they get cqc'd without designating a host is just plain awful. The lagging is also horrendous, in one game the host captured the gecko then a couple minutes later everyone got the red connection notice and suddenly the game was over with the gecko over the goal by the host.
In the next round, he was cqc'd and immediately quit the game without designating a host. When I sent it to Konami they said I needed video evidence.
joe_bevis @ Sep 17th 2009 4:04PM
YATTA!
Shimrra @ Sep 17th 2009 4:16PM
I have to say this MGO is fucking fun as hell but what kills it is that whole ID system I HATE THE ID SYSTEM in MGO. HATE IT. But once I got thru that whole mess, which I tell you after the hours I spent playing online I forgot what my login name and passwords are, the maps, control, graphics overall gameplay is close to perfect.
Oh and I am not a sony fanboy I'll be honest I play more on my 360 but I will admit it how much fun I had with it and I will be playing more MGO now that I got my HDMI cable :)
TreyIM @ Sep 17th 2009 4:28PM
Yah, I didn't understand it, neither but if they are abandoning it, cool. Bout to play PES 2010 after this Live 10 demo. Thx EU PSN store! Ha...
Maulok @ Sep 17th 2009 4:29PM
It won't be missed. I tried to pick up MGO again recently and once I got logged in (ultimately had to make a new Konami ID), I found the population very small, which is a shame. I wonder how much Konami ID is responsible for it.
kentuckyfried @ Sep 17th 2009 6:38PM
You should pick up J-MGO. Much more casual atmosphere, and the community is 4000 people strong on any given night.
Luminite @ Sep 17th 2009 4:31PM
While MGO does offer one of the most unique and interesting online shooter I have played thus far, I don't see why one would compare it to any Halo, or CoD4. Those games are as typical as typical gets. The only thing that is wrong with MGO are a couple of glitches and the stupid Konami ID code, but even then I rather play that than any Halo or Cod4.
That being said, I hope they keep the online interesting in Modern Warfare 2, so it won't fall into that state of typicality that people are so used to these days.
golobulus @ Sep 17th 2009 5:19PM
FINALLY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i'm glad we got the message through to them.
Styar @ Sep 19th 2009 1:10PM
THANK GOD!!!
now take it out of metal gear online entirely and i will start playing it online
i havent touched it just because i had to remember different passwords etc
KenSharp @ Sep 18th 2009 2:19PM
Perhaps it was a combination of laziness and apathy, but the whole Konami ID system was too much of a hassle for me to take it seriously. Besides, playing MGS online didn't really resonate with me for some reason.
