How many codes ya got Joystiq? I missed out on all the Uncharted 2 codes...take pity on me!

Hehe.

Actually, Brutal Legend is a game that never even made the slightest of blinks on my radar...until I watched the opening video t'other day. Looks pretty sweet!

this is kind of dumb isn't it? the whole purpose of a demo is so that i can determine whether or not i want to buy or pre-order something. this is backwards.

welcome to the world of advertising. in this case its a sales promotion where the game developer worked with the retailers to provide an incentive and reward for consumers, effectively making a win-win-win situation.

retailers: gets pre-orders
developer: gets confirmed sales
consumer: gets rewarded with early demo for taking initiative.

youll still have your chance to demo it next wednesday... which is still plenty of time before the game comes out.

Yes, they probably could've come up with a different incentive but it probably wouldve turned into an in-game item that nobody used anyway.

They do have an in game item for pre-orders at GameStop. They also have a special LP case for pre-orders at Best Buy and GameCrazy.

More like

retailers: gets pre-orders
developer: gets confirmed sales (until consumers withdraw preorders)
consumer: gets shafted if he/she happens to live in a third world country without internet or retail chains like say Germany

Really now, there is but a handful of people that can actually pre order this game. I for one can't preorder that from any "officially supported" store despite living in the second largest video games market of the world. I pre-ordered that game with Amazon UK in June. A quarter of a year ago. But I don't get early access because ... right ... Amazon's not charging for pre-orders. This marketing bullshit is getting on my balls.

haha dont get me wrong, i think its a dumb marketing move and I work in the industry.

Like I said if I were the account executive for this game's campaign I would definitely look for alternative rewards. I was simply pointing out how the marketing team was (no-doubt) thinking.

yeah, what if you hate the game cuz of the demo? i mean i doubt it, but it's possible.

but yeah, a week early demo as an incentive to pre-order is about the dumbest shit ever. throw out a guitar or t-shirt you can use on your avatar/PS Home character instead of this garbage.

There's gotta be a few GameStoppers in here.... Isn't it theoretically possible to put down 5 bucks on a pre-order for this game and get the demo, and then just not buy the game and use that 5 bucks for the next pre-order demo they have?

Not saying you shouldn't buy the game based on the demo/your own selfish interests/etc., just asking if it's possible. Surely they can't say that you HAVE to use that 5 bucks towards the game, especially if you got to play the demo.

So are you saying just recycle your $5 so you can get early access to this and future releases' early demos?

A better idea would be to learn some patience and take your $5 to Mickey D's while you wait for the demo.

Paying $5 for a demo is stupid....I can understand if you're absolutely, positively going to by the game. But even still, GameStop is lying to you. They're not going to run out, and they can't not sell it to you if you don't pre-order. And getting a demo early carries no perks in and of itself either. 15 minutes and your done and nothing you did in the demo carries over to the main game, so what's the point? Just wait the extra week like everyone else.

You can absolutely do that. In fact, I would encourage it. You could even just ask for your $5 back if you want to go all the way crazy about it. "Why pay $5 for a demo?" You're not. The money goes towards the eventual game purchase. If you want to argue the merits of giving GameStop money early so they can earn interest on it, that's another story altogether.

You're honestly going to go through that trouble for 15mins of gameplay? More-so if you're just going to get your money refunded? Seems silly to me.

Like I said, if you're going to buy the game definitely, then yeah, pre-ordering for the little bonuses is a good move. But if you're not going to buy the game, and can't wait the week, well....I dunno. That's your decision I suppose.

Yeah I preordered in-store and no emails have come yet. So my guess is I'll get in the store and they'll be clueless as usual.

According to their website, if you preordered in-store, you can go by the store to pick up the code. This supposedly started on the 11th (codes arriving), yet I preordered after that and no one thought to give me one -_- I may stop by tonight and see if I can get mine.

I pre-ordered in store and then when I asked for the demo code the girl had no idea about the demo. When she looked the game up on the computer it said that the bonus would be given when we pick up the game. She said that it didn't make sense but to keep calling them and maybe they'd get them at some point. I knew I should have pre-ordered online.

I actually just went by my local GameStop and imagine my surprise when they knew exactly what I was talking about. I think I was the first one to come by today because he opened up a new pack of the cards for me. Sorry he only gave me one or I'd share. :)

Good luck Warlock and Cantu.

HEY LISTEN

Today only, the Gamestop website is offering $5 off Brutal Legend preorders. Enter coupon code ROADIE at checkout. The website also says that you can't stack coupons, but that's bullshit; enter SAVER and get free value shipping on top of that. $54.99, applicable taxes, and you're done.

Funny, I went to my local GamsStop to get my code Brutal, but the employees there said that I can't until I get the game or later on. I told I pre-ordered the game, and yet said I couldn't.

Funny...um, wait, actually its more stupid than anything.

I hate this strategy as well. It's just a gimmick for the retailers to get some more pre-orders, and I'd say it benefits them more than the actual developers. If they'd get a demo out early to everyone, they'd have more sales (if it's good) than if they just give the demo to people who are already buying it despite any real grasp on the finished product.

Oh yeah... I don't pre-order. I prefer to demo, or at least read some reviews before I buy something.
