If you're planning the playoffs for the video game industry's intramural softball league, you may want to avoid the weeks leading up to Feb. 9. That's when the 27 different development studios involved with BioShock 2 (a full half of the world's developers) will be crunching to finish BioShock 2 for release.
After waiting all this time, we're just happy that the game can finally ship, 2K can staff up just a bit more, and work can begin on BioShock 3: Now It's An MMO.

Despite the negative buzz that's been surrounding this game; still a day one purchase for me...

I'm cautiously optimistic. I'm just afraid that it won't live up to the original because it's being made by a different studio.
Definitely purchasing day 1, though.

Yeah, the "negative buzz" that I was referring to relates to the different developer and the allegedly "tacked on" multiplayer. But based on the excellent experience of the first one, I'm willing to gamble on this.

To be honest I don't care about the multiplayer component at all. Other developers games like Halo and Modern Warfare 2 are probably going to be much better for online multiplayer than Bioshock 2 could be. And nothing is going to beat TF2 as far as multiplayer goes, imo. I'd rather them focus completely on making a great single player campaign than focus too many resources on multiplayer.

What?
I'm a troll for not really caring about an unneccesary sequel, but wanting to know when one of the best-looking games in development is coming out?
Holy crap man you have a weird definition of troll.

Having owned, beaten, and replayed the original, I still can't seem to get excited about this. Maybe it's just been too soon or the game is too similar to the first (from what I can tell in the previews), but I just don't see this being a Month One, let alone Day One purchase for me.

It's Bioshock... If you loved the first one why the heck are yall so skeptical?

It's made by a different studio, and the original creator/visionary is barely involved in the sequel at all. It still looks like it's gonna be great, but it's enough to make on nervous.

Definately day 1 for me, already have it paid for (back when it was gon release this year). Maybe you have to have a strange sence of humor like me, but I think the game is hilarious! And I was swept into the culture of Rapture, anything that has to do with it I like. I want the lythographs from 2Ks website. I understand some people dont like Bioshock, but mostly those are the people who think everything should be CoD4.

Bioshock is wonderful! it's just so full of that epic before you were born feelin' (no offense to you gamers that are in their prime) that makes you wonder how the world may have been back then. I know it wasn't exactly like bioshock but similar in the way of those old black and white scifis by Rod Serling. I liked the first Bioshock because it felt like it had soul in a sense... It tought you lessons that you would never forget and it was just plain fun! electrocuting splicers for the first time in the beginning gives you just a taste of the power that was to come. The story was perfect and the graphics were top notch for it's time. I for one am looking forward to Bioshock 2! =)

I'm waiting to see if they're going to implement a mandatory install for PS3, considering that this time around their isn't some BS temporary exclusivity deal with Microsoft and they're co-developing the game alongside the 360 version.
Either way, it isn't a big deal, but lately the PS3 version of video games has been good about not having mandatory installs and I'd like to keep it that way.

I've done a lot of day one purchases and never been really disappointed. Of course I don't have the standards of your regular pompous and cynical web-person who sees anything slightly less than perfect as a personal insult.
Or maybe I just have a good hunch of these things. Right now my hunch says that BioShock 2 will be a good game. Not as brilliant as the original, but then again, what is?

It's Bioshock, even if it's not as good as 1, it's hardly a "blind" purchase.

I don't know, maybe you guys have more money to burn than I do, but I can't afford to buy every game that I have a good feeling about. I need to have some idea that what I'm buying is going to be worth the price (you know, beyond what the marketing campaign is saying).
@CaramelZappa
Very few people from the original game are working on this one. This game's a total crapshoot at this point.

I love that people are proud of how they are stupid enough to make blind purchases.
How about you wait until day TWO and read some of the reviews before you throw your money at the cashier? No one will think less of you."
Interesting how some complain that the game looks like "Bioshock 1.5" in other words, a tired rehash of the first game. And some, like you, chastise "stupid" people for making "blind" purchases.
I don't think it's ALL that risky to, lets say, pre-order this game, considering it is a AAA sequel to an arguably groundbreaking game (even if it is by a different developer). And you might be taking the "day one" comment a bit too literally, I doubt everyone who utters that phrase means that they have it pre-ordered or will be waiting in line on that fateful day. It can also be a phrase that conveys a sense of excitement and support for an eagerly anticipated title.

@KenSharp
Okay, so "blind" may have been overstating it, but I think my point is getting lost here. Although I suppose I am partly to blame for making my comment sound so inflammatory (sorry, I'm a bit disillusioned after yesterday's Yellow Light of Death comment thread bloodbath).
What I'm trying to say is that people have decided to buy this game with insufficient knowledge to inform the decision (and, yes, the haters are being equally rash). This game is of suspect quality, so I think it would benefit everyone to stop with the fanboyism and wait to evaluate the game on its own merits (yes, although he totally misinterpreted my comments, I agree with Ryguy226).
I apologize if I started a thing. It was kind of the opposite of my intentions.

With so many games for 2010, I wonder what it'll be up against on Feb/late Jan. Because, I'm preeeeeetty skeptical myself 'cause I love the first game but this one looks like could be a disaster, I still want to play it and prolly will get it... but if you make me choose on the same day between Bioshock 2 or Splinter Cell Conviction, I'd go with Conviction.
