EA done with Boogie franchise for now, SSX revived if market is 'ready'
In an interview with Gamesindustry.biz, EA Montreal general manager Alain Tascan discussed the possibility of a SSX franchise revival, saying, "If the market is there and is ready for a new one then we'll consider it." While Wii gamers have already hit the slopes with SSX Blur, the closest PS3 and Xbox 360 users have been to the franchise is through shoddy backwards compatibility features.
Tascan also discounted a new installment in the rhythm music franchise, Boogie. According to Tascan, the franchise has been a success for EA and, while the publisher is proud of its work with the series, there are no plans for Boogie to return at this time. Thankfully, the games industry has plenty of music games to spare nowadays.

Something along the lines of SSX3 please.
dabamf @ Sep 18th 2009 1:47PM
I agree...SSX World Tour kind of killed the series for me.
SSX3 on the other hand was awesome, especially the way it utilized music...integrated more parts of the song based on how well you were doing with tricks and so forth.
JayVe @ Sep 18th 2009 1:21PM
SSX Blur was bloody fantastic. Especially loved was the dynamic music system that gets better the better you play. Hit a huge jump and the whole music shifts into the stratosphere.
dabamf @ Sep 18th 2009 1:48PM
SSX3 had that as well...bloody awesome.
twarin @ Sep 18th 2009 1:29PM
How will you know if the market is there if you just let your franchise go AWOL for years?
Are they waiting for a focus group to report back that SSX needs more space marines?
Are they worried about the 360 and PS3 not being able to show colors other than brown?
Gah.

Haven't played an SSX game since the first one....wonder how many people still play them
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 18th 2009 1:47PM
Really? The first one was not nearly as good as the next two. SSX Tricky took the design of the first one and just maxed it out. It also fixed the controls, it became less likely your guy would just start falling over or get jammed mid-trick in mid air without a way to fix it. Tricky had the best soundtrack too. SSX 3 changed it up with the "ride the whole mountain idea" which made the game a lot less frenetic and open (no more riding through cities) but had a different greatness of its own.
Honestly, if you liked SSX at all, you should try to find a copy of Tricky somewhere cheaply.

thanks for that....I'll check to see if GameFly has it
greg (peevmyster) @ Sep 18th 2009 2:57PM
word of advice though. Don't try to play it on your 80 gig BC ps3 if that's what you have. It freezes a lot and you can't get through one run. If you play it on a PS2 though it's GREAT!
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 18th 2009 3:03PM
damn...really?? that blows....yea I dont have a PS2 anymore....bah...
oh well...

A few years back, my buddies and I would spend the whole weekends playing SSX. We'd have a Gamecube version on one screen and a PS2 version on the other. Some of the most fun I have ever had with a video game. I highly recommend you still try to Gamefly it and see if you luck out and get it to work.
Jordan Biffle @ Sep 18th 2009 1:31PM
Please make SSX the way it originally was with global themed tracks. Hell, I would take a remake of SSX Tricky.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Sep 18th 2009 1:47PM
I use to play Tricky on a projector with the HD cords. Man that looked amazing, nothing was more fun than going off the huge jumps and doing awesome tricks. I need to find a copy of that for old times.
razer922 @ Sep 18th 2009 3:25PM
Agreed on the SSX Tricky remake.EA says "if the market is ready". I say "if you want to know, then give the market a taste of what you've got". They should rerelease SSX Tricky on all 3 consoles- HD graphics, maybe one or two new tracks, but largely the same game. If it sells well, then move up a step to SSX3. Same idea- add HD, maybe a few additional bonuses here and there, and see how it sells. And of course both games would be relatively low priced. Perhaps a $30 pricetag for each, or $50 for the pair?I don't think EA could get away with a $60 pricetag for a remake of an early-last-gen game THIS late in the current generation, but $30 would work. Don't see it going much higher though.Anyway, point is: If you want to know how ready the market is, you've got to test the waters.
Ben! @ Sep 18th 2009 3:37PM
Tricky was the absolute best game in the series. SSX3, to me, started the downward trend, and World Tour pushed the series over the edge (in a bad way). Bring back the cool, ridiculous nighttime tracks with the fireworks. No need to have the whole game take place on one mountain, either.
ToadStoolPorridge (PSN: tennispro_99) @ Sep 18th 2009 3:38PM
Tokyo was one of the most beautiful levels I have ever seen in a game.

It's all about Psymon Stark.
Troy Powers (PSN: TroyPowers) @ Sep 18th 2009 1:47PM
I'll put my Kaori against your Psymon any day. Didn't the last SSX game on PS2 have online play?
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 18th 2009 1:50PM
SSX3 had online. I think the last SSX game on PS2 was On Tour (the one with the skiing) and it didn't have online.
Troy Powers (PSN: TroyPowers) @ Sep 18th 2009 1:53PM
Matter of fact, we should ALL play SSX online this weekend to show EA that the interest is there!
Troy Powers (PSN: TroyPowers) @ Sep 18th 2009 1:55PM
Oh. On Tour is the only one for PS that I don't have. Heard it wasn't all that great. Shame, cuz as a franchise, SSX rocks. It was the main reason I was bummed when EA got rid of their BIG division. What the hell was that about? I could go for a new NFL Street too.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 18th 2009 2:04PM
I'm trying the online of SSX3 right now, the servers seem to be down. It won't log me in.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 18th 2009 2:05PM
NBA Street Vol 2 forever.
Vol 3 had online, but it just wasn't nearly as fun.

Please, oh, please, oh, please create a new SSX game. I thought they hinted at this in Burnout Paradise (radio DJ made some quip about it), and I have been waiting patiently.
SSX3 was the best, by a long shot and I still play it from time to time on my PS2 and XBOX.
why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 18th 2009 1:53PM
That's DJ Atomica, and he mentions Mac up on peak 3 because DJ Atomica is the voiceover in both SSX3 and in Burnout:Paradise.
The voiceover in Tricky was Rahzel, and he's good too, but with a far different style.
I thought Atomica was great in SSX3 and Burnout:Paradise. Apparently the guys at Criterion got a lot of feedback to the contrary, because they used to have to defend their choice of Atomica on their podcast all the time.
Storm Eagle [Resident Capcom Megafan] @ Sep 18th 2009 1:37PM
Boogie? Who gives?
Bring back SSX!
RICKYYY WINTER-- Oh, that's the other one.
CrimsonTalon @ Sep 18th 2009 1:37PM
The Market is READY as long as you make a good GAME!
SSX Tricky was amazing because it really made the characters what they should be, wild, crazy and fun! With voice actors that were so over the top it made you believe that there was some immersion there! (And Please stop making Psymon a Punk rocker kid, just mkae him crazy!)
Now SSX3 brought the open world element to the mountain and a DJ that made it entertaining just to sit there and hear what was going on, or even talk about your own previous races (Burnout Paradise also knocked this out the the park!)
So yes, the Market is ready if you are ready to deliver something promising!
And PS..... EA Please dont make any more useless plastic attachments for it... or any crazy motion controls, it made me hate SSX Blur.
ComicShaman @ Sep 18th 2009 1:47PM
I am in complete agreement. The first three installments of SSX were brilliant. The market was quite "ready" for SSX4, except for the small hitch that it was terrible. I don't believe I've ever been so disappointed in a game.
So I am conditionally excited about the idea of another SSX installment on the current generation, provided they retire the crack pipe they were clearly using in the brainstorming sessions for SSX4.
Toop @ Sep 18th 2009 1:40PM
I have been wanting a new SSX since the beginning of this console generation. Those games were so fast paced and looked so good, they could really do something special with the newer hardware.
Stoked did a great job of providing me with some semi-realistic snowboarding, but I want my over-the-top fix. Please make it so.
vegetafr20 @ Sep 18th 2009 1:41PM
Zomg SSX returning on PS3 and 360 would be so AWESOME! I played the first on and conquered it, loved Tricky, and didnt know anyone locally who could beat me in SSX3 on PS2. If they brought this franchise back RIGHT, with no stupid skis and gave us an even BIGGER mountain or SEVERAL mountains with new characters and character customization, I'd be game. It would also be cool to use your 360/PS Home avatar in the game and purchase new customization options. They could really go crazy if done right.
Miku @ Sep 18th 2009 1:42PM
SSX: Tricky was one of the first games I got for my PS2, never been a big sports game fan but I loved the heck out of that game. I'd be all for a remake.
dabamf @ Sep 18th 2009 1:50PM
Same here...put in tons of hours on SSX Tricky more than anything else. And I had freaking MGS2 at the time!
Mr Khan @ Sep 18th 2009 1:45PM
They'll want to make a balance-board run SSX game at some point, lest the franchise lose legitimacy completely in the face of Shaun White's. Ubisoft has proven more than willing to milk that (although it has good fundamentals, from what i've heard), so EA had best move soon before SSX is forgotten, which would be a sad thing.
coleduke @ Sep 18th 2009 1:46PM
Tricky is probably in my top 3 games of all time (maybe I like weird games).
This whole "when the market is ready" thing is garbage. They just let the franchise go. At least if they had gone the way of Tony Hawk we could have some closure. I just want some more SSX. With
max @ Sep 18th 2009 2:02PM
GOD YES! SSX was the first PS2 game I played and it was amazing. Tricky was awesome and so was 3. easily one of my favorite franchises of the last generation. so yeah, EA, give us a fantastic SSX sequel for the current gen. and no bullshit motion controls either.
Mr Mobius - the wandering artist @ Sep 18th 2009 2:05PM
It's tricky to rock a rhyme, to rock a rhyme that's right on time, it's tricky!
dc_fortythree @ Sep 18th 2009 2:19PM
i just got a psp 3K and the first game i purchased was SSX on tour. i would pay top dollar (not exceeding $59.99) for a next gen SSX. sorry Blur does not count.
OmegaVader @ Sep 18th 2009 2:20PM
SSX is the only 'sports' series that I ever had a vested interest in, and one of the very few series of which I have bought every title. SSX3 was perfection, and On Tour seemed like a title that would've been better served on a next generation platform. Please, EA, please please please, bring SSX back!
Moschetto @ Sep 18th 2009 2:34PM
Well, THIS market is fuckin' ready, whenever EA is.
Moschetto @ Sep 18th 2009 2:39PM
Oh, and you can just go ahead and make SSX Tricky 2, as long as it has that little Run-DMC clip in it.
I liked that. A lot.
Martin @ Sep 18th 2009 2:34PM
SSX Tricky HD please.
OverMuch @ Sep 18th 2009 2:41PM
I was a hardcore PC Gamer, but the first time I saw Tricky, I ran out and bought a PS2. I still play it occasionally, and haven't touched a PC game in ages.
Also, credit Tricky for getting my wife interested in videogames. Once she played it, she was hooked.
BRING IT BACK.
ducttapeBigSexy @ Sep 18th 2009 2:44PM
Almost everyone thought SSX 3 was the best - I still say SSX Tricky was the best. I just wasn't a huge fan of the open mountain design. Plus, it was just missing something without Rahzel :)
Speaking of SSX, I've finally gotten around to putting some time into Pure - it's good, but it's still no replacement for a new SSX!
shibathedog @ Sep 19th 2009 12:53PM
As long as it is more like SSX Tricky and less like the other ones, sign me up. One of my favorite games of the previous generation easily. I recently bought it again because I can't find my gamecube controllers, got it on Xbox. It is still just as awesome as I remember it. SSX3 was alright but Tricky had the best levels and that freeride thing was kind of annoying, I would just warp everywhere if I remember right. All the SSX games after that where pretty much garbage.
Deaddy @ Sep 18th 2009 2:58PM
WTF, my PS3's backward compatibility isn't shoddy. It works great!
David Donarumo @ Sep 18th 2009 3:01PM
The market is so very ready for a new SSX game. Just please follow the mold of Tricky or SSX 3. SSX On Tour was a terrible, lackluster game and SSX Blur (yes, I purchased it) was an abomination that needs to burn in Hell for its sins against humanity.
Oh how I miss riding a pipe perfectly and jumping at the exact right moment to find an entirely new trial. How I miss the 10 or 20 second jumps where you could pull of trick after trick. Please, please bring it back!
