Electronic Arts has announced that a demo for Need for Speed: Shift is now available for PC. You can grab the demo from Big Download right here. The demo offers five different cars, including the BMW M3 (E46), the 2008 Dodge Viper SRT10, the 2006 Lotus Elise 111R, the 2008 Nissan GT-R. The fifth car, the 2006 Pagani Zonda F is included in the demo as an unlockable.
While the demo is currently confined to the PC, take heart, console owners. A demo is scheduled to hit the Xbox 360 and PS3 in early October.

I have this game for the PC, awesome game, but the controls suck ASS!! And you can't change them! Grid did this MUCH better. Game is good, but I can't continue playing it. Waste of $$$....I mean Bandwidth...

I'll wait for GT5 later this year.
The definitive racing game of this generation.

I find it amusing that you're trying to insult Halo fanboys with your username, yet you yourself are far worse than any Halo fan I've ever seen (including the screaming 12 year olds one live) and are yourself the physical manifistation of a "Sony pony".

interesting. I saw a hot guy on TV today and the first thing that came to my mind was "I should go jerk off to some gay porn".

God I love Dirt 2. I'm about 50% through the career. I keep getting sidetracked by the awesome multiplayer!

Releasing a demo before release would really help..
But Dirt 2 was just released, which I'd probably buy right now if I had the money. But as it is I'd rather wait for Forza. With no way to even try out NFS to see if I liked it better than Dirt, there's not much I can do.

I think racing has always been my genre of choice outside of platformer and puzzle games, and I have to admit, while Gran Turismo is the game in which all racing games are compared to for me, I'm really really enjoying Shift. It's got a really nice feel to it blending arcade and sim controls into some sort of alchemical monster that feels good and the racing feels fast and I like being rewarded on whether I'm a precision driver or a dirty driver. Plus it's got a delightful British man as your team manager talking to you, so that's a win.

I'm not saying it's anything like a Gran Turismo or a Forza, but it's a really competent and extremely enjoyable racing game that doesn't feel like it's bogged down with a gimmick or emphasis on any one particular thing, even if the incredible cockpit view is it's gimmick.

I can't think of a better way to get people interested in the game than releasing a demo a month after release, a month after everyone and their grandma has already reviewed and picked apart the game heavily influencing anyone's consideration of purchasing it.
If you don't release a demo at or before launch, don't bother.

I see your point but this game is getting good reviews across the board. I think racing fans will try a demo to a game being hailed as "the best NFS in years" and "great sim with just the right amount of arcade" whether its before release or not.

I have this game. It is amazing. WAY better than anything the NFS franchise has done lately, trust me! It's nothing like their latest shit games. Get this if you are a fan of serious racing games. It's beautiful and the controls are superb. The only thing bad about this game is NO CAR DAMAGE! But that's just so we can have our precious Ferraris..

I definitely saw my car get smashed up.

well, if the demo is accurate, the car damage is mostly cosmetic and effects the car in a very minor way.
I did a 140mph crash into a guardrail and all it did was ruin some body work and make the car drift to the left a little.
Still very fun though, more fun than forza2 driving is to me (driving is the only thing i can compare, no paint room in demo or customization)

It would have been nice to see the demo earlier, but in the same week as release isn't too bad. It may not influence your decision to buy the game as much, but it at least lets you see how well in will run on your system.

This game is awesome, but you HAVE to play it from the in-car view.

I don't need a demo, just want to rent it to make sure it's awesome as everyone says and I'll be snapping it up. It looks awesome, in-car especially.

I rented NFS Shift last week, because, first : I had nothing else to do (besides day-to-day grind...) AND i only rented it because it lacked a demo...
To give a bit of perspective, i've actually done 50miles and a lot of phone calls on the 15th just to go get DiRT2, ONLY because of the demo !
