Rumor: Best Buy ad fuels the $50 Wii price drop fire

What you see above is the third circular image we've spotted in just five days advertising a Nintendo Wii price cut to $199.99. At this point, though the image that a Kotaku tipster sent in could very well be made of fancy pixel work by someone with too few extracurriculars on their schedule, we're fairly confident in a forthcoming price cut reveal.
Considering the impending holiday season and those other consoles getting recent price drops, it seems likely something will occur with the big N in the upcoming months. IfMiss Cleo's Michael Pachter's predictions based on slowing sales are any indication though, we'll know soon enough.

I gonna go with a "maybe" on this one. I mean, it would be smart for Nintendo to do this, but I think it's become apparent that Nintendo has become pretty pompous ever since they stepped in the lead. But who doesn't already own a Wii?

Lots of people don't. Plus with price cuts to the othermore powerful systems, Nintendo pretty much has to cut their rice if they want to maintain their healthy lead. With three different flyers advertising the price drop, it's pretty much for sure. That's been the case the other times upcoming flyers have been leaked.

Yeah Jimbo is right. I need to cut my rice out as well. It makes for a healthier lead.

A simple price cut for Nintendo won't help it compared to the PS3. They should have added a second nunchuk to the package. Yes, you could use the savings to buy another controller, but consumers are lazy and would rather use that money at the mcdonalds drive thru on their way home.

Seriously? You think the PS3 at $300 will be outselling the Wii at $200? It didn't even do that in August when the Wii was still at $250.

That was for the Slim, right? The price drop took effect immediately.

Lets not forget that people want the new better, thinner console as well. The PS3 is going to kick the Wii's teeth in when the September NPD's come out. Besides, the price cut went into effect like the last week of August.

You're joking right?
The Wii shit in the PS3's oatmeal while it gratefully asked for more for the past three years.
Regardless of how well the PS3 sells in a month, it's still playing catch-up.

The price cut was Aug. 18th. And a lot of people are very "meh" on the Slim design. That's plenty of time for those waiting on a price drop to take action, as the jump of 90k in one month shows. I've seen others use this "it was only 2 days/7 days/2 weeks" defense in the NPDs all the time, and it almost never pans out.
I'd place my bets on a status quo for September: Wii in the lead, with PS3 and 360 battling for second place (which will win, Halo fever or the Slim, is hard to say).

Good news, but still not low enough of a price drop imo.
Though, what REALLY needs to drop in price are the DSi and the PSP G0. Absolutely ridiculous.

I don't think the DSi is that much overpriced, but I would be happier if it was around 150 or less if possible.
But the PSPGo just seems a bit over price for the risk you are getting.

I remember buying my Game Boy Color for $70. Portable gaming doesn't offer the experiences that a home console does, and should cost CONSIDERABLY less.
The PSP go is the worst offender, it's the same price as the wii, more expensive than the base 360 by $50 and only less expensive by the much more technical PS3 by $50.

Tell that to those spending half a life time playing Pokemon on GameBoy Color.
"A better experience" isn't only graphics, a big screen and loud sounds.
It is a more advanced piece of technology, yes, but I still enjoy retro games more than Current-Gen Mario and Zelda.

Yea, Pokemon is what I bought my Gameboy Color for.
Retro games are fantastic, but that doesn't change the fact that you're paying the Sony and Nintendo more for them doing less.

Though samfish will be jealous...
Oh, and the fun fact. You can never ever remove that avatar (due to the year-long broken system), so if the site finds it unacceptable, they'll have to ban you, since there would be no other way to get rid of it.

Well, it wouldn't surprise me.
I mean, they released MotionPlus recently, which is somewhat "essential" for upcoming Wii-games. 50$ cheaper Wii only balances out for 1 or 2 Motion+ addons, which only makes the Wii do what it was always suppose to do.
Probably going to get down-voted for this, but that is what I see here.
I am sure some people would buy a GameCube for 250$, because that was a great console, died way too fast.

Yeah, there are leaks every week. I won't feel any sympathy if any of the people leaking these things get fired. That is completely disrespectful of company policy.

They should have done a value-adding bundle, i agree. Wii Sports is now "obsolete," as it were, and they could get the word out better.
The timing of this drop is going to be viewed as a mistake. Coincidence, perhaps, or just the final straw in the face of sales that were already declining (though not sales that were being lost to the competitors), but it reflects ill on them either way.

For now I say fake. Best Buy gets the ads into the store on Tuesday for the next Sunday. This is the week after and Tuesday for this ad is 5 days away. This would have to be leaked by someone higher up or the printer. You will have to wait until next Tuesday to confirm this story.

A catalogue actually ADVERTISING full price Wii games?
It's like saying "don't come here - it's $20 cheaper 2 minutes down the road."
Fail.

I know it's not the same thing but you could have Color Ware paint it for you ... you can even buy a new one painted from them. When I get another PS3 eventually I'm going to get it through them new already painted.
