But there isn't usually a '70s nostalgia element, mostly because Bomberman didn't exist until 1983. Hudson's teaser for Bomberman Live: Battlefest, the new WiiWare/XBLA/PSN Bomberman party game, adds a lovely anachronistic touch not usually seen in Bomberman marketing. And also a bunch of footage of stuff exploding in cross patterns.
Bomberman Live: Battlefest trailer is unexpectedly funky

I love Bomberman, but what makes this much different from Bomberman Live. This looks more like it should be an expansion pack for it rather than have to pay 10-15 dollars for a new game.
Maybe I'm just being stubborn...

I don't think it's being stubborn. It looks like exactly the same game as Bomberman Live, with a few more arenas and five new powerups.
I was pretty annoyed when they announced a sequel to Worms instead of adding on to the existing one, but it at least completely overhauled the graphics and reworked the physics system.. This literally looks like the same game with minor additions.

take a look at some of the screenshots? i could take a look at some of the screenshots from the NES Bombermans or the SNES Bombermans or every other one on any console it has released on and not find much difference. (Not necessarily a bad thing). There are always small differences from one iteration to the next, is all I mean by that. If nobody thinks this is worth a new retail game, as opposed to an expansion, vote with your dollars (or microsoft points). As a bomberman live owner, i probably won't upgrade, but that is because I havent played BML in months anyway.
also, Snowblind, you killed my attempt at humor. for that, I bite my thumb at you.

Saturn Bomberman was good, but Super Bomberman 4 & 5 (both Japan only) were the best.
This game really comes as a surprise to me. New powerups, "more arenas than ever", etc. Are they actually bringing something new to the table? Because Bomberman Ultra was completely unoriginal, basically just the DS Bomberman but with customizable outfits.
I don't think Hudson even knows how to make an original game anymore though. For 10 years, all they've done is Bomerman and Mario Party sequels.

They really need to make another puzzle platformer like the bomberman on the 64, god damn that game was awesome.

Very underrated game. That had some of the deepest mechanics in any single player game, I spent hours trying to figure out some of those puzzles... It was brutal!
I'd also like to share the greatness of Pocket Bomberman for Game Boy. It was single player only, but played more like a side-scroller. Had an awesome secondary mode called "Jump Mode" where you are always jumping. Perfect level design too, very trial-and-error though. Was the first game I got with my Game Boy alongside Pokemon Blue :P

I've played way too much multiplayer on Bomberman 64. I miss those freeform battles on multi-level stages with fully 3D explosions. Ghosts were fun too. Wish they'd return to that style once more.
These new Bomberman games are way too simple and watered down. They are missing the the great features from Super, 64, and especially Saturn. If Hudson truly cares about their fans, they'll at least add single player tournaments / mazes and bring back the boss battles.

I really fail to see how the multiplayer in Bomberman is so fun. I already have the first XBLA, why do I need another? Everyone only plays the default arena anyway.
When I look back at the series, I had the most fun playing co-op in the story mode - which is always not there now.

I'd be happy seeing jelly bombs return.
But they should drop the price of the old Bomberman now. I don't have it on my new 360. I want it. But why should I spend the cash for it now when this is around the corner? Net result - no Bomberman for me.
They'd get more cash out of me if they dropped the old one to $5.

Seriously dude... Bomberman 64 multiplayer was EPIC... you weren't restricted to the bs checkerboard layout, and the maps had great varieties. Pump up bombs... kicking and picking up items, including knocked out players... cherry bombs... Remote detonators... diseases... hearts... upgrades... mmmm... now where did i put that 64...
epic.. indeed

I'm with you. I got Bomberman Ultra on the PSN, and now they release this? And this one looks better, mainly in that I think I saw some shots with larger arenas.
This should be an expansion. Oh, no wait... it should be a free add-on. And I'm not one to say every expansion should be free, but seriously, how much work goes into cranking out a Bomberman arena? (and Ultra already has 8 players and I think it has teams)
I just want the bigger arenas. The ones in Ultra get way too cramped with 8 players, and it would be more fun even with just 4.
No buy.
