Zombie Apocalypse plaguing XBLA and PSN next week
Though it may lack the ever-catchy soundtrack of another recently released, undead-centric twin stick shooter, we're still pretty pumped for Nihilistic Software's Zombie Apocalypse. Imagine our rapture when a recent news post on the developer's blog revealed that the title will be landing on XBLA and PSN next Wednesday and Thursday (respectively) for 800
($10). If you lack imagination, we'll clue you in -- our rapture was immeasurable.
Not only does this seem like the perfect training manual for the actual, inevitable zombocalypse, but it's a great refresher course on undead genocide before the year's more substantial zombie-action game comes out.

If you got a PS3, save your money for Dead Nation. Looks way better and is made by the Super Stardust HD people.
CaramelZappa @ Sep 19th 2009 10:41PM
To me it really depends on whether or not either of them have Demos. Dead Nation LOOKS better but you can't really tell without playing them, and right now I'm kind of pissed that games that I might want to buy like Fat Princess and Burn Zombie Burn don't have demos.
SpyderTaco (PSN: Ar4chNova89) @ Sep 19th 2009 10:47PM
Looks better?
It's by the Super Stardust HD devs. It IS better.
I'll save my money.
CaramelZappa @ Sep 19th 2009 10:50PM
Superstardust HD was overrated imo. After playing all the Geometry Wars games it just doesn't compare.
johnnynumber5 @ Sep 19th 2009 10:54PM
Yeah Dead Nation does look waaaaaay better and in fact I know it will be amazing because of the pedigree with Super Stardust HD. Burn Zombie Burn is one of my favorite games this generation and Dead Nation looks like a higher graphical fidelity version.
@CarmelZappa
Just go watch some of the videos on youtube. I can tell you that both Burn Zombie Burn and Fat princess are amazing games. The only thing I can suggest is either going and reading reviews or watching videos on the net.
johnnynumber5 @ Sep 19th 2009 11:02PM
@CarmelZappa
How can you even compare Stardust and Geometry Wars? They're both shooters but that's where the similarities end. I think Geometry Wars 2 has more varied gameplay modes but saying Stardust is overrated just makes you look like an idiot. It's either that or you just suck at the game which is understandable because it's pretty freaking difficult.
If you went into Stardust expecting Geometry wars then you are to blame but that doesn't mean Stardust is overrated. Seriously, it's one of the best if not the best download-able games this generation. What didn't you like about it and what more did you expect that wasn't there?
Lunastra78 (PSN: lunastra78) @ Sep 19th 2009 11:03PM
I thought a Fat Princess demo was just around the corner?
Anyhow, I agree. I like to try the demo before making purchase, especially for more pricey games like FP or Trine.
Halo Pony @ Sep 19th 2009 11:06PM
Definitely, Super Stardust HD showed the Geometry Wars devs how to make a game. So much better in every possible way.
Though I'll probably get this and Dead Nation. What's 20 bucks? Close to nothing. =)
sicsided @ Sep 19th 2009 11:09PM
This game is 4 players co-op.
Dead Nation is 2 players only.
Just throwing that out there, as that will make or break this sale for people.
CaramelZappa @ Sep 19th 2009 11:28PM
I compared it to Geo Wars because when it came out all the PS3 fanboys were talking about how it kicked Geo Wars ass After playing Geometry Wars galaxies and Geometry Wars 2, going to Super Stardust seemed ugly, and not very intense. I didn't find it any more challenging though. I just didn't like it. If you like it fine and it's not about one particular element that was missing but overall I just didn't find it anywhere near as fun as Geometry Wars.
As for Fat Princess and Burn Zombie Burn, this is exactly why I want a demo for these games. Other people love Superstardust, but I don't. I want to play a game before I buy it, so I can form an opinion before I've thrown away my money on it. I'm used to the XBLA which has a demo that for every single arcade game.
sho220 @ Sep 20th 2009 1:11AM
so i just downloaded and played the demo for this super stardust hd game you kids are raving about and, i must say it is no geometry wars. it is nothing like it and it is not better than it. furthermore, if there is a demo for dead nation, i will still download it and try it. but, super stardust and geometry wars, not even close. anyone who says the two are similar has never played the other.
johnnynumber5 @ Sep 20th 2009 3:40AM
@CarmelZappa
Let me get this straight. PS3 fanboys said that Stardust HD PWNED Geometry Wars so thats what you based your level of expectation from? Again, the only thing it has in common with Geometry Wars is the fact they are both robotron clones and arcade shooters. Let the game stand on it's own ...
SSHD isn't easy in the least bit. I know because of the amount of time I've poured into it over the last year or so. I'm not saying the game is impossible but it's certainly unforgiving and the trophies add a completely different dynamic.
I have the DS Geometry Wars and I had the second one on XBLA last year when I still had the ole 360. I love the franchise and the GW & SSHD products can co-exist and aren't mutually exclusive just because they are platform exclusive.
If someone had a gun to my head and said I could only pick 5 total PSN games I would tell them to get Super Stardust HD, Burn Zombie Burn, The Last Guy, Pixel Junk Monsters, Echnochrome & Luminies Supernova. Just don't go into Luminies expecting Tetris ;p
Like I said if there is no demo just go to metacritic and check out the reviews or go watch videos online.
Ashitaka @ Sep 20th 2009 5:23AM
@ CaramelZappa
If you had paid attention, you could have gotten the Fat Princess demo. You didn't, so just shut it.
Finito @ Sep 20th 2009 8:36PM
There is a demo for Fat Princess on the EU store, don't know if its also on the US store.
As for the game, I kinda like it, but it is also very unbalanced and chaotic. It's hard to get people to work with you to get to the princess. Most people just go blindly into the battlefield or chop trees like crazy to be number 1 in points. It almost breaks the game IMO. You should definitely try the demo before you buy it.
You got 100% on Stardust Johnny?
eNrique @ Sep 21st 2009 2:40AM
Well, I just want to say that burn zombie brun sucks, and so far it has been my worst purchase ever on PSN.
About geometry wars and SuperStarDust HD, I have to say that SSDHD is just better. IMO.
So much better, the oly thing is that you have to buy the add ons to fully enjoy it.
By the way, getting 100% on SSDHD was a pain in the a**.
arrrgh @ Sep 21st 2009 12:07PM
Well since this game will definitely have a demo on xbla (since they have to)
let's just hope that dead nation has a demo on psn. psn seems to avoid demos like the plague. give us our demos you bastards!
Durden @ Sep 19th 2009 10:34PM
Normally I would try a game like this out but they released it at the wrong time. Too many AAA games coming out in the next 6 months. I'll catch it on sale next summer.
Solace @ Sep 19th 2009 10:36PM
Is this game online or just local co-op?
brickwalker0 @ Sep 19th 2009 11:42PM
Online is enabled.
Deadpool @ Sep 20th 2009 2:42AM
Woohoo! Nothing like burning zombies with some friends.
mortegro545 @ Sep 19th 2009 10:37PM
It's 10 bucks and multi player. A few beers and some friends and it's better than a lot of the zombie movies that have come out over the last couple years.
They will come for the beer.
They will stay for the zombies.
Shaun @ Sep 19th 2009 11:18PM
i like that motto. i just might have to borrow that and live my life by it. :)
WINterfang @ Sep 19th 2009 10:37PM
Dear SEGA.
Zombie Revenge 2 HD.
Thank you.
WINterfang @ Sep 20th 2009 1:03PM
woah!
-5000 cool points for everyone in here, now I'm gonna go revoke some nerd cards in here.
Levi @ Sep 19th 2009 10:54PM
I might check this one oot
johnnynumber5 @ Sep 19th 2009 11:05PM
Wait for Dead Nation.
http://video.yahoo.com/watch/5795084/15159755
Looks way better and is from the guys that did Super Stardust HD.
Levi @ Sep 19th 2009 11:13PM
yeah I just checked out a video for it and it does look better. Hopefully they'll both have demos. You never know, ya know?
Hydrophobicfish (PSN: HydrophobicFish) @ Sep 20th 2009 4:07PM
"you never know, you know?"
WHICH IS IT!? DON'T LEAVE ME ON THE PRECIPICE OF KNOWING OR NOT KNOWING!
Obie @ Sep 19th 2009 10:57PM
Actually the Crash Course campaign is coming out soon, I would save my money for that one instead.
CaramelZappa @ Sep 19th 2009 11:29PM
Unless you're a PC gamer and get it for free. (Crash Course.)
jarhead906 @ Sep 20th 2009 1:27PM
Yeah don't buy it if you're a 360 L4D owner. My unborn children are suffering because people get so easily suckered into buying 'DLC' with an unwarranted fee compared to PC.
toxicinzanity @ Sep 19th 2009 11:18PM
fat princess demo is on uk psn just dl it of there
mortegro545 @ Sep 19th 2009 11:22PM
Truth.
Metoo @ Sep 19th 2009 11:24PM
The lighting in Dead Nation looks amazing, can't wait to try it out.
Jcarpio @ Sep 19th 2009 11:49PM
I do like the 10 dollar trend of late. Hopefully this will be a fun game to lure people away from the L4D campaign that's supposed to release next week to.
Miadaskate @ Sep 19th 2009 11:56PM
I just checked out Dead Nation, and while it looks way better....I still don't know why every PSN Zombie game has to be fucking old school GTA top-down. I hate that shit.
CaramelZappa @ Sep 20th 2009 12:25AM
Once Dead Nation and Zombie Apocalypse are out you're going to have basically 3 different versions of the same game at varying quality, at the same price. I'd like to see a bit more variety on the PSN
kentuckyfried @ Sep 20th 2009 12:54AM
Somebody out there should just rip off L4D and just do it better, and market it as a ps3 exclusive. Valve doesn't own the IP rights over "generic zombie game", after all.
Hell, Treyarch might as well split off Nazi Zombies from W@W and tune it up and sell that as the pre-eminent zombie game. Not really a big fan of the overhead view either. but I'll prolly drop my $20 on these two just b/c I love zombie survival movies.
johnnynumber5 @ Sep 20th 2009 3:48AM
The one thing that PSN has is variety in it's downloadable catalogue. I'm sure all 3 games will offer very distinct gameplay.
Ashitaka @ Sep 20th 2009 5:28AM
@ CaramelZappa
Obvious troll is obvious. If there's one thing that the PSN has IT'S VARIETY.
KwietStorm @ Sep 20th 2009 12:18AM
To everyone saying wait for Dead Nation, I was inclined to do just that, except it isn't scheduled for release until sometime in Spring next year. With Zompacalypse coming next WEEK, I can deal with this until then.
Wastelandr @ Sep 20th 2009 12:27AM
Does this play where you stand in one area and just chill waves and waves? Or will you be moving through cities and other environments heading to an objective?
sicsided @ Sep 20th 2009 10:22AM
I believe Zombie Apocalypse is where you try to survive wave after waves in different arenas. Similar to horde and survival modes in gears and l4d. In this game, you get death traps like in mortal kombat games that you can launch zombies into.
Urza @ Sep 20th 2009 12:43AM
It's all about I Made A Game With Zombies imho. :)
I'll be getting both games though.
CaramelZappa @ Sep 20th 2009 2:21AM
Well, I made a Game With Zombies in it is only $1, so it's definitely a better value considering the game play is pretty similar.
greqo @ Sep 20th 2009 4:11AM
Agreed. And it has the best price. $1
robert @ Sep 20th 2009 5:11AM
I'll probably end up picking this up.
FloatingCorps3 @ Sep 20th 2009 7:23AM
I have nothing against this game and I only heard about it today but at first view it looks like a Left 4 Dead minigame
Gibbeynator @ Sep 20th 2009 7:48AM
Is that Adam Savage with the cast of Left 4 Dead in there?
Rex Dart @ Sep 20th 2009 10:20AM
Zombies again? Talk about "If you lack imagination, ..."
