With the exception of Valve, most developers have no qualms about developing for PlayStation 3. Sure, it's still far more "tempting" to work on the 360's accessible architecture, but most recent releases appear to have shaken PS3's earlier substandard multiplatform performance.
Most. Bayonetta developer, Platinum Games, recently admitted on its blog that it was not developing the PS3 version; instead, it handed off PS3 porting to Sega. Platinum Games' CEO Tatsuya Minami wrote on the company's official blog that Platinum would be "overseeing the progress to ensure that the PS3 version would be the best it could be." However, instead of saying both versions will run identically, he simply advises PS3 owners to "[play] the game for yourself and [come] to your own conclusions."
PlayStation commenters weren't too kind to Minami's admission, saying, "Platinum Games is trying to shift the blame to Sega" for what gamers fear will be a substandard port. History certainly gives their worries credence, but we'll find out for sure later this week at Tokyo Game Show.
[Thanks, sacra!]

Power is what classifies which systems get graphically intense games. There needs to be some way to categorize them. So last gen includes the Wii since it has the power that's closest to the ps2, gamecube, and xbox 1. That's why, if any game is ported from the Wii, most times it goes to the ps2.

Sounds like it might be time to take Bayonetta off of my games to watch list...

Meh. Sega can't design a competent Sonic game anymore, but their programming is solid. If all they're doing is a port, I trust 'em to do it right.

I'm tired of Devs being lazy when it comes to the PS3. It says alot about that company and what standards they have. That's why I think greatly of companies like, Naughty Dog, Insomniac, and Kojimas team at Konami, because they push the PS3 to it's potential. They also show their skillz and are proud of their end results. I was thinking of buying Beyonetta, but now it is a GF rental for me.

Can't believe how upset everyone is over what a gaming house is doing w/it 's ip concept. what the big deal, so they don't want to port. that's their choice & part of thier ownership rigths. why is everyone bent out of shape over it.

are you stupid or something? what exactly don't you understand?? maybe you have a 360 and you're stoked for this game- but some other fans who were waiting for Bayonetta only have a PS3. to find out the the developer stiffed the PS3 and handed off coding duties to publisher SEGA is kind of a slap to the face. the track record of 360 to PS3 port-jobs is pretty grim- so it's only natural that they're concerned that this game will be a let-down. for the same price as the 360 version- why should they be happy to be getting a sloppy port?
i'm gonna wait and see how it turns out- and if i do buy, then i'll almost certainly be getting the 360 version. but i can totally understand why PS3 fans are disappointed.

No... That sounds accurate. SEGA has had a shaky past. Their games really have been hit or miss. As far as Platinum Games goes, I'm not very happy with what I'm hearing. Not long ago Jun Takeuchi was talking about how pleased he was with Platinum Games and his excitement to work with Sony's motion control.
This is really getting frustrating, irritating and I can't even describe it. This laziness and complaining behavior of game developers has gotta stop. The Japanese were genius' at one time and were known best for being smart in punching code. They say they wanna be able to develop Western type games. WE'LL THEN QUIT ACTING LIKE SOME BAPTIST PREACHER AND START PRACTICING WHAT YOU PREACH! You worked on Devil May Cry 4 and it turned out better than the 360 version. Western developers have got the PlayStation 3 hardware figured out. Electronic Arts, Insomniac, Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, even Capcom (a Japanese developer says they're doin fine.)
We PlayStation gamers are gettin sick and tired of this whining and complaining. THIS HAS GOTTA STOP! ITS NOT SONY'S FAULT! SONY DEVELOPED A MACHINE! I CAN'T BELIEVE HOW LAZY DEVELOPERS HAVE GOTTEN!
I've learned over the last 24 hours that Media review sights, and I think they make a good point as this particular review site said: "Its not that we have anything against the PlayStation 3 or are even biased. True Sony has some difficult tools, but a good number of developers have figured it out, or should have figured it out by now. We're doing our job, not to scrutinize Sony, but the developers for the console. Lost Planet for example, is not acceptable by us, or by Sony's PlayStation 3 gamers. We do our job to ensure that developers don't ever feel like they can squeek by and dust their laziness under the rug. We are here to ensure you get the quality games you want."
Now, if Bayonetta is a success, you can bet Platinum Games is gonna try and chime in and hog the glory then, but, now they are trying to brush it off on SEGA. I hope SEGA smothers them and Bayonetta becomes SEGA's property and SEGA runs wild, free and successful with it. This is not right.

I'm sorry. I'd just like to add, that SEGA deserves a lot of respect regardless of what happens. Platinum Games got lazy and try to brush their responsibility off onto SEGA. Bayonetta's first showing on the PlayStation 3 was a travesty thus far. But I totally respect SEGA for making the effort. I think everyone should feel that way. Hats off to SEGA to taking on the responsibility of at least making the effort.
Platinum you can bet is gonna continue this laziness and say, "Well we (like Valve) feel the PlayStation 3 is too difficult to develop for and we think we'd like to just develop exclusively for the Xbox 360. Well then fine. The PlayStation 3 doesn't need anymore of this crap! The developers they do have are working hard to produce quality. Resident Evil was was dissapointing. No wonder Jun Takeuchi is so pleased with Platinum Games. They eat off the same plate. Capcom's succeeded with every other multiplatform game. But PlayStation 3 fans are tired of it! Again and as others had stated, Insomniac, Santa Monica Studio's, Capcom (save Lost Planet and Resident Evil 5), KONAMI! How could I have forgotten KOJIMA PRODUCTIONS! I'VE BEEN REMISSED AND BEG YOUR FORGIVENESS! Naughty Dog, Electronic Arts, SEGA (Valkyrie Chronicles was beautiful!), Guerilla Studio's (Killzone 2 was great!), Media Molecule, Sucker Punch, Tecmo. The list continues.
How we PlayStation 3 gamers are saying, look we understand games are getting more expensive but look at the potential of the PlayStation 3. Gears of War could have covered a lot more ground on a bigger disc. Halo 3:ODST is a 2-Disc game. Gears of War could have had 50GB to use rather than 9. Kojima made a phenominal game with Metal Gear Solid 4 and maxed out the Blu-ray disc. But the game was amazing! Uncharted 2: Among Thieves is the only other game to max out the Blu-ray disc. Games can be so much better as you're not limited so much to space to expand and grow out more. And to develop exclusively for those benifits, I'm sure Sony is willing to invest and help out so long as they know you're really willing to make an effort to do your best. Killzone 2, Metal Gear Solid 4, Uncharted and Ratchet and Clank Future have shown that. I think Gears of War pales in comparisson to many PlayStation 3 games and I think Gears of War is the most visually impressive game on the 360. Cliff Blezinski could have done so much more and so much better, but a controller threw him off?
I congradulate you SEGA and Platinum Games, that cowardly and lazy. That's disgusting! Other developers are working hard to do their best rather than just coast by. That horrid! You should be really ashamed!

Platinum should just take the lump of cash M$ has to offer and make it "time exclusive", launch the 360 version (which I fear wouldn't sell too well in its October release window....). Take the time to fine tune it for PS3, adding extra contents. Then sell it as the "ultimate" version in a less crowded period next year. That way they have no excuse NOT learning how to make games for PS3.

I'm pissed. I only have a PS3, and I was beyond stoked for this game. I don't want to get slapped with some shitty port just because I own a PS3. Sega don't fuck this up.

Just release it on PS2, the graphics look bad enough anyway.

Ok. This is the third time I try to reply, hope Joystiq's stupid comments section doesn't make it disappear again :-/
I only own a PS3. When I listen to reviews, and say that the PS3 version of the game is a suckier version of it's 360 counterpart, i basically just ignore the game forever. (Much like Orange Box, Lost Planet, etc....)
I wasn't interested in this game anyways, because there are many AAA titles coming out anyways and now that I'm hearing this game will be a substandard port, I'm considering it even less.
No fanboyism here, it's just my small way of protesting sucky-ass games.

AUS_JD, maybe you should pay more attention before replying... any idiot knows there is a much larger 360 install base than PS3 and what I was saying isn't contradicting that.. but certain games appeal to certain people more and when choosing which platform to cater to you should look to see if your audience is there.
Look at DMC4, which is obviously the closest comparison to Bayonetta, it's lifetime sales are higher on PS3 than 360 despite a much larger gap in install base at launch than we have now. Now look at series that forgot where their fanbase was.. how about Tenchu? Last two consol entries into that series were a flop... of course neiether of those game appeared on PlayStation.. the platform that fostered the series in the first place. Look at the first HD Katamari.. 360 only... and a flop.
If they want Bayonetta to be a success they need to cater more to the PlayStation crowd.. if that isn't a fact to you.. well then you haven't been paying attention to this industry long enough.

who's to say that they were ever going to port it themselves ,it could be said that sony fans may have jumped the gun. to think that since it was going to be on the 360 that they were getting a version of it or that it was multiplatform.

Man this thread really has shone that reading comprehension is definitly missing. Also the Lazy Dev comments are become more and more foolish and stupid. There are no lazy devs, instead there is Time, resources and money.
Smaller devs like PG probably have a limit on each. The PS3 if you do not already have experience with it takes time to develop and money. It's reported by many devs already that Sony support, resources, documentation, pretty much everything a developer needs to get a game out in 18 months is very lacking. Any coder out there knows that experience plays a huge part in getting software out in a timely fashion. The more you have to figure out on your own, the longer it takes to finish your work. Not only that, when you hit a snag, that also increases time and thus increase money.
It takes no genius to see that PG doesn't have experience PS3 coders. For them to develop for the PS3 would mean that the game would probably be delayed another year thus increasing the amount of money it takes to make the game and putting their development in jeopardy. Instead they smartly let Sega who has studios who are very experience with the PS3 port to handle the game.
The situation is plan and simple and has nothing to do with developers being lazy. Development studios are companies that need to make profit to support their employees. They need to create the product within a certain time frame so that money continue to flow and people get paid as well as bills. These guys work 60 to 70 hour weeks trying to put out the best product they can and when an OEM decides to create a complex piece of hardware but doesn't provide the proper support for that hardware, they jeopardize small developers like PG because of their arrogance.
It's easy to blame the developer because they are the ones making the game but because most games do not know what the hell they are talking about never understand the details. One very important detail that has come out this Gen is how Sony treats developers and they poor support of their hardware. Sony's arrogance towards developers as if they should be happy to develop on the PS3 instead of Sony being happy that developers wanting to develop for their system. Sony should be bending over backwards to support developers, getting them all the support, resources documentation etc. Instead this is not the case. It has become better but no where near as good as a company like MS where the reason the 360 is easy to code for is not because the hardware is PC tech but instead MS provides all the necessary tools, debuggers, resources, library's documentation to get your project up and running in a short period of time so developers can concentrate on what matters.
