EA and DICE's free-to-play online shooter Battlefield Heroes is getting some TLC in the form of "Heroes of the Fall," a series of updates and changes that will presumably be released this ... fall. The game's official blog has news about the update coming in a slow drip -- for now, we know the Gunner class will be getting some major improvements, and all players will receive military rankings to go along with their current levels.
Also getting a revamp is the game's social networking functions, making it easier to keep track of your in-game friends. Just make sure you don't befriend any of those dastardly Nationals. They simply cannot be trusted!

I played during the beta and had some good fun with it, especially with flying. It's definitely worth checking out, especially since it's free. During the beta, the only stuff that you would actually spend money on was the clothing. It appears now you can buy weapons, so I dunno if that throws off the balance of the game or not.

its alright, as long as you play it often enough to get enough money for weapons/armour (about a couple of hours a week per item) or you just like the default gear.

It's a fun little game... although I'd like to see more variety in the maps.
It combines the core battlefield gameplay with a few mmorpg elements (abilities, levels and a hotbar).
Not being able to buy weapons for lifetime use is kinda of a drag, as i only log in once in a blue moon, but it really isn't hard to get enough points in a play session to buy your weapons the next time around.
My only big issue is that you are stuck playing one class the entire game, no in game class selection, just the on class chosen during character creation. ( i believe you can have multiple accounts though)
Worth checking out for sure, but i spend more time with QuakeLive and it's twitch fest rocket jumping gameplay, it's better suited to the casual game here and there than BF:Heroes.

Ugh, this game is terrible. Why can't they spend their time making DLC for Battlefield 1943, which is a good game?

Would you like to point out specifics to why it's terrible? Because I'm willing to bet you don't like it because it's not your typical battlefield game and it's supposed to be a bit more cartoony and unrealistic. And because you can't be the "look at me I'm best loadout can kill everyone without any problems" guy.

He doesn't like it because mechanically it feels like something from 10 years ago.
It's a piece of garbage.

Try again after the update or try the PTE beta. The changes promote a lot more action and teamwork. ATM, it's all slowed down thanks to snipers being everywhere.

Is that graphic an official piece of art or something from Joystiq?
Either way, it's freaking terrible.

Just checked out the site and it's from EA. It looks cooler with the bottom part but that font ruins the entire thing.

I've been playing the beta "PTE," and the update sorts out a lot of issues with the game (not all of them, but a lot). Mostly to make the gunner class more playable and valuable to the team, and to stop commands being such insufferable dicks.
Oh, and if you play this, make sure to play it until at least level 8 before passing judgement. Easy enough, but until then, the only ability you'll have is to catch bullets with your face. The level system is a bit odd, but it seems to weed out all the screeching, CS playing fuck-tards after they rage quit after I run over then with my tank for the fifth time.

No, its not my typical battlefield game, and I dont like that, but I'd be willing to give it a chance still, but its just not fun. like IGLAW said, it feels like its something from 10 years ago. The graphics are fine and all, but the gameplay is not fun. It doesn't work well, is completely generic, and isn't fun.

If anything, you could trade in your 1943 hats for some other codes for stuff.

I got into the closed beta right at the beginning of when it was released and I absolutely loved it. But then it got kinda boring and it never really upped the ante and threw some new stuff into the mix. I guess this fall update is DICE's way of saying "so we've been around for a little bit, time to make some improvements!"
