Though Alienware's keeping mum, we've got a theory: What if the big reveal ... is an extremely powerful computer? We know, it seems out there, but think about it. Connect the dots.
Alienware threatens to 'shake gaming world to its foundation'

PC manufacturer Alienware has be teasing a reveal at TGS that it says will "shake the gaming world to its foundation." As you can tell from the video after the jump and the company's Facebook page, there's not much more information than that to go on.
Though Alienware's keeping mum, we've got a theory: What if the big reveal ... is an extremely powerful computer? We know, it seems out there, but think about it. Connect the dots.

if it's anything like my experience with alienware it would have a death rate that would make the 360 look like the most well made machinery ever

Yupp, it'll look like a miniature nuclear reactor and be backlit neon blue.
Also it'll cost over 9000 dollars.

Maybe their own streaming game service like OnLive?
Otherwise, just expect another £2000 over-the-top gaming rig which you could build yourself for half the price, or wait a year and do it for a quarter.

It's a new desktop PC. They did the same PR bullshit when they released their last gaming laptop. My guess is that it's a quad-core, quad SLI, quad keyboard/mouse, quad monitor, quad thingamajig for and octopus. amiright?

nah, upgrades have been moving a little slower lately. I dont know of any games that utilize quad core, anything with one of those wont be obsolete for a while.

Dear Dark Wayne,
I've been watching you lately and have been more than impressed with your crime fighting skills. I'm pleased to offer you a spot on the Planeteers with a very, very special Power...
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer | Power of the Batusi]
I'll understand if you don't accept the position. I know you like all that self-loathing, loner, emo lifestyle. But when the time comes, I trust you will be there for us and the Earth.
Remember, the Power is YOURS!

Did you just call The Dark Wayne emo? If he were emo he'd be sitting in his batcave crying to Alfred about how the police don't like him and understand him and be listening to the most shit music to have come out of this decade.
That's not the Wayne I know. The Wayne I know doesn't care what anyone thinks about him and does what he knows he has to do and will break your bones if he has to do it. It's been scientifically proven that emos can't so much as break a pencil let alone bones.

You could pick up any one of their current desktops and drop it out a window. Their sheer size should cause a reasonable earthquake.

Shake the gaming world by the sheer mass of money that'd drop from your pocket should you buy an overpriced piece of shit from them.
Their computers are rip off prices and all you get for that is a chasis with some funky colour crap which defeats the point since you'll probably look at it few times and keep your eyes somewhere more interesting liek the screen.

I think if Alienware wants to shake up the console market then in my opinion it would have to be a PC that is powerful enough to run Crysis, or a game in that nature, at around 60fps and price tag the whole system for under $400 if they can do something like that then that would be a huge slap across the console market.
Posted: Sep 22nd 2009 12:09PM Shagittarius said
Or you could buy a 400 dollar PC that will run those games better than consoles already, just not maxed out.

Why exactly would anyone want to play games on a computer instead of a Ps3 or 360?
I don't get it, buy a $1500 computer and do the same as a $300 system?
I'm being serious, not bashing anyone, i just don't understand.

Nobody buys $1500 computers.
Everyone buys $500 computers. Gamers buy another $200-300 on top of that for video cards, more RAM, etc.
If you think of a gaming PC as:
Cost of gaming PC - Cost of PC you would have bought anyway
it's not that bad.
Also, PC games continue to dominate for these genres:
-MMORPGs
-RTS
-FPS (though it's losing ground here)
-Adventure games
-Simulators
I'm not saying it's better, but to claim there's no reason anyone would play games on a PC is ridiculous. Just ask everyone playing WoW or Team Fortress 2 (the good version) or the Sims 3.

Well my 3 reasons for why I prefer PC gaming is:
1. Ability to mod games.
2. Most games can use kb/mouse OR controller
3. Better graphics (depending on your vid card)
I'm not attacking you, but I don't get it? WTF is up w/ this internet myth that PC gaming has to equal AT LEAST $15?!!!
I have a system that I built for about $700 that is still able to handle current PC games just great. Granted I am only running a 17" LCD therefore the lower native resolution gives me solid framerates w/ my ATI 4850 (getting a 5870 in January). Even w/ a 22" monitor I should still be ok w/ my current card. However if I went closer to a 24" monitor...I might would want a faster card (or Crossfire config) to make sure I can get solid framerates.
PC gaming of course CAN be expensive...but it doesn't HAVE to be.

I spent $900 on my rig, AMD 9600 Phenom(quad core), dual ATI 4850, 8gb OCZ Reaper, 1TB internal. If I spent $1500 on a PC I would have one beast of a PC that wouldn't NEED to be upgraded for YEARS.

Core i7 is going to launch for laptops anytime now, so it will probably be a laptop with those new processors and chipsets.
I just wish that laptops were as upgradable as desktops in the GPU department, waiting for Expresscard 2.0 and external GPUs and more expandability of the MXM standard.
It depresses me to buy a gaming laptop 2x the cost as my desktop and yet I cannot upgrade it. A gaming laptop would be nice to take to my vacation in India. : )
