For some, Halo 3: ODST's $60 price point has become a point of contention (though not for us, we should note). And not for Bethesda production director Ashley Cheng either, who says on his blog that, "reviewers are now mentioning that Halo 3: ODST may not be worth the price point, that it should've been cheaper, etc. ... give me a break."
According to him, these complaints wouldn't be arising if it weren't for the game's "totally bungled" marketing campaign. "First saying it was a standalone expansion pack, then coming out and saying wait, no, we're charging full price because - surprise! - we put 'more' stuff in it and it's called Halo 3: ODST now, vs its original title, Halo 3: Recon." Bungie has since justified the new price point to us, though apparently for some that just wasn't enough.

Sorry Bungie not this time, it IS overpriced. A 5-6 hour single player with *only* 3 new multiplayer maps. The same game engine that doesn't even do HD graphics, no, not this time... Getting Uncharted 2 instead.

Umm no it's not dude.. it's about how marketing for the game was botched on the early announcement that ODST was only going to be an expanded story at a discounted price. Now that they have added to that concept by ... more features and more content.. people are complaining still because bungie decided they gave more value so they raised the price. Funny how many gamers will bitch about everything. I don't think the blog is an open invitation to start fanboy comments like
"Over Done Shooter Trilogy" (really, why are you reading this?)
"from what I heard Uncharted 2 is around 9-10 hours of gameplay PLUS it has co-op and multi-player for the same price, thats not even counting the quality of the single player and graphics... all that for the same price." (what does that have to do with anything considering we are talking about 360 owners!? Wow, can I buy Uncharted 2 for 360? No? Then what the hell good does that do anyone?)
Bottom line is if you don't want to buy it... DON'T. Wait for it to come down in price and not come with a LIMITED halo reach invite or no maps. If you strip it down to the ODST part.. maybe it will be $30 at some point. Wait till then. I don't care that you don't want to spend $60 on something that will most likely bring hours upon hours of game play waaaay beyond a 6 hour campaign. Buy something else then. What's stopping you? Why are you telling us? To convince those of us that want it not to get it? You'll bitch about $60 but yet debate why someone wouldn't have wanted to buy a PS3 for $400 a few months ago. Get real. I think you haters will find any reason to debate and bash in a blog.

A minor point, but I still firmly believe that the name was changed from Recon to ODST because Halo: Recon is too easily confused with Halo: Reach. Recon would have been a much better name than the cumbersome ODST.

Completely overpriced and over hyped bullshit. They did this with Halo legendary edition and that was the worst game purchase I have ever made and ever since have been extremely weary of LE and CE games. Most of them you dont get what you pay for. Bungie with halo 3 legendary edition were like oh yeah its gonna be $100. Then they said but, wait the value is too good so, they boosted it up to $130. Then right at the end after you already had a pre-order they were like wait we make the best game in the world and its completely worth more money and its halo, you KNOW you want it so they jacked it to $150. You think people would have learned from that experience that Bungie are a bunch of money grubbing, over hyping, give us more money than its worth scoundrels. Don't get me wrong I like halo but, bungie uses the logo to rape money out of peoples wallets. They say its a new game and they got all this inspiration. My ass, it's gonna be a 10 hour campaign extension and that's it. It's worth about $20-30 maximum, PERIOD! This shit is the same as Doom resurrection or Half life episode 1 & 2. Its not a new game of "3" wouldn't be in the title! They are charging you more for multiplayer that halo 3 already contains and all the maps which MOST halo fans already bought and own and so now you are paying for them TWICE. Firefight mode is nice but not lengthy and should be included PERIOD at no additional charge. Call me an asshole but, I will wait until I can pick up a copy of it on ebay sealed for $25 or less because that's all this game is worth.

Dude, what is with your long and boring rant. No one is making you do anything. What are you, a robot? Did Bungie force a gun to your head and tell you to pay them $150 for the LE Halo 3 or else? If you had read any description of the varying editions.. you should have known what you were getting before you made the purchase! Don't downplay Bungie cause you are dumb enough to shell out that kind of money that only a die hard fan would buy and appreciate. That's who they make it for. Obviously a helmet doesn't add to the game experience. You didn't need to get any special edition. Not everyone owns all the Halo content either. I sold my copy once friends got me into COD4 and I regret not having it anymore. This to me is a great buy and I am enjoying the crap out of Fire Fight already. It's definitely good practice for Halo 3 MP. Jesus people. Like some have already stated, if you don't want it don't buy it. Why are there so many children on here hating. Go play another game.

How come PS3 fanboys always come into the Xbox area and start flame wars? :|
My friend has bought ODST and says it's really good. He also says it's worth a rent, and not buy.

Huge H-universe fan here, from Marathon to the corp. H3....very much agree, not this time Bungie....
It doesn't even REALLY have to do with the halos. Just an MS corp. ownage. Will look for it used at about half the price...maybe. ;)

Good Expansion - BAD Game. I really don't feel like they put any heart into this game, and it shows. I found the campaign to be embarrassingly short, and unexciting. This really should have been about a 30$ expansion. I don't mind paying $60 for a game, but I expect to get a fair amount of playing time out of it. Out of all the Halo games, this is the weakest and Bungie will take a hit in the 'respected developer' dept for this release. The only people this is a 'bargain' for are the few who have NEVER bought Halo 3.

I hate Halo, and will never buy another Halo after the trash that was Halo3, but overpriced? No. What is a $60 game anyway? Bethesda puts out 60 hour epics, and I've spend hundreds of hours with CoD4, but those games are the exceptions not the rule. Look at the 100s of $60 games that have 4-5 hour play times and no multiplayer. Wolverine got decent reviews and there was nothing there beyond a great mechanic and short single player.
If you like Halo and Halo multiplayer, this game is more than worth $60 to you. Think about it this way, you pay $10 to see a 1.5 hour movie. If you break that down, a 6 hour campaign should cost around $40, and 20 dollars for the maps and multiplayer isn't that outrageous.

Look. Halo fans are akin to Pokemon fans. Microsoft knows this. From a business stand point it would be stupid to charge what the game is worth when what the consumer will pay is higher. You charge as much as you can get away with. In this instance, they've just proven they can get away with it.
Enjoy the game Halo fans.
Enjoy the game Halo fans.

Ah, subjective arguments over worth. To me, this is definitely worth $60, as I love firefight (and even more so worth it because of my $20 GC and ODST figure, bringing the price down to $27). To someone without an Xbox, this would not be worth anything. Everyone else is in between. If you don't like, don't buy it.
That said, this is more like Halo 2: ODST, with the timeline and all (not talking about graphics or any of that dumb stuff). I think Halo: Recon would have been such a better name. I agree that MS did nothing to help themselves in the public's eye, other than of course releasing the game.

if I were Microsoft, I would have called it Halo Recon in Japan. Since it was announced at TGS, I could say Recon was the Japanese name all along, and ODST was the name for everyone else.
That's why I'm not Microsoft.
