EA confirms The Beatles: Rock Band SingStar mic pack for UK, other territories
The Beatles: Rock Band SingStar bundle has arrived at UK retailers for £49.99 ($81.87). Only after being half-announced by MTV Games, showing up on an Australian retailer website, and then vaguely detailed in a press release from today, are we able to bring you this news. Is it coming to other territories? That's a good question!
We asked EA, who gave us a laundry list of launch dates for various European and African countries (listed after the break). Unfortunately, we were told that the exclusion of North America from the list means that the publisher currently has no intention of bringing the microphone bundle Stateside. Sorry, aspiring North American crooners!

Why can't I find any new RB-branded mics at stores?
chefmcelroy @ Sep 22nd 2009 6:03PM
Not a bad deal for peeps in the UK. Even if you have the RB set, you probably don't have the 3 mics which Beatles: Rock Band uses for singing. Gotta have backup singers.
For people in the US, Amazon is selling the two Singstar microphones separately (no games) for like 20 dollars.

oh i had no idea ps2 would work on ps3
PR0F3TA (PSN - PROPHETA) @ Sep 22nd 2009 7:36PM
almost any PS2 peripheral works on the PS3, same button layout makes it quite compatible
Chris D.(PSN: Aggie_CEO | XBL:The Aggie CEO | Steam: Aggie_CEO @ Sep 22nd 2009 7:57PM
yea...they are just USB mics...well a USB hub with 2 mic ports on it
The Baron @ Sep 22nd 2009 10:04PM
I was thinking that. £40 for just the game felt a bit wrong (but also very very right) - so £50 for it plus all the equipment i need for vocal harmonies is slightly more palatable.

wow...I thought the US dollar was in the Shitter...
but 669.99 rands in South Africa!??! FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUCK!!!

I wonder how disappointed people are going to be when they realize the second singer doesn't really sing too often.
Koenn @ Sep 22nd 2009 7:08PM
Depends on the song, really. Also, during parts where only the lead is singing, the second singer can sing the same part so if one person messes up a phrase, if the other person hits it they keep combo.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Sep 22nd 2009 7:56PM
Are you sure about that? It hasn't worked like that for me.
pibs @ Sep 22nd 2009 8:39PM
Some songs do not even have a second singer at all...
Autopsy15 @ Sep 22nd 2009 8:56PM
That's why the second and third singers are usually also playing instruments. They can't be expected to keep up with the lyrics and the note charts at the same time, that's why they mostly sing the easy to remember chorus.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Sep 22nd 2009 9:14PM
@Autopsy
Exactly, that is why I think people will be disappointed when they buy this. If you're buying this, you're probably expecting Singstar like gameplay with 2 people singing at once for the whole song.
ill trooper @ Sep 23rd 2009 1:44AM
You get scored more if people sing separate harmonies, but anyone can sing any part of the Beatles songs and get scored for it at the end. Both people can sing the lead vocal and have fun like that if you want.
linebeginstoblur @ Sep 22nd 2009 6:54PM
I'd say that, in North America, you should just buy SingStar so you get access to the SingStore in addition to the two extra mics, but...
This IS North America we're talking about... I don't know if it's gotten any better, but I started giving up on SingStar. I wanted to use it in conjunction with Rock Band, but RB is how I do almost all my singing now. Shame.

the US Singstore is shit compared to the UK one
Mint @ Sep 22nd 2009 7:35PM
Where are the wireless mics? : (

in the UK....
Bobby Kotick @ Sep 22nd 2009 8:18PM
Well, it's about time we Americans get screwed with Rock Band. It usually everyone else...
pibs @ Sep 22nd 2009 8:48PM
Well they did mention releasing a patch for those of us who bought the LIPS mics to use on RB2 by summer. Summer ended yesterday.... no patch. Maybe they meant Australian summer?
Davedrastic @ Sep 22nd 2009 8:34PM
So is this both Singstar and RockBand compatible? Just it's missing the RockBand instruments? Bit strange having both competitors join together isn't it.
ill trooper @ Sep 23rd 2009 6:02AM
Totally agree... I'm a bit confused by this. My girlfriend and I have been playing Beatles Rock Band like a Singstar game all week anyway (singing only, not using instruments), and using our SingStar mics. But there's no Singstar software involved here, correct? I mean no camera support or singstar videos?
drinkdrink @ Sep 22nd 2009 11:59PM
The Singstar (both wired and wireless) and Rock Band microphones are effectively interchangeable for RB, GH and KR. Both function as standard USB microphones - you can even plug them into a PC and they'll be recognized as such.
Singstar's shows up as a stereo microphone with the blue mike as left channel and red mike as right channel. Rock Band's is a mono microphone.
RB1/2 and GH will use the Singstar blue/left mike as their single mono mike.
Beatles:RB will take any combination of Singstar and RB mikes, recognizing both Singstar microphones as independent units.

I saw these the other day in HMV(UK)
