Halo fans are strange, otherworldly creatures whose behaviors are difficult to analyze. A consulting firm named OTX recently tried to tap into this demographic's collective hivemind the only way it knew how -- by asking Halo 3: ODST purchasers what title they'll likely pick up next. The firm found that the average Bungie buyer plans to acquire a total of three games within the next few months, with Modern Warfare 2, Assassins Creed 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 being the most desired titles. We're not sure if that means this group enjoys blockbusters, or if they're addicted to games with numerical suffixes.
Though the list of top 20 games charted in this manner is primarily composed of Xbox 360 titles, God of War III was also a popular response; with 18 percent of participants claiming it to be their next purchase. We're beginning to see a pattern develop. A manly, manly pattern.

I want for that game to succeed, but I have a bad feeling that it'll be a far cry from doing so. They didn't even whip up preorder incentives. It's just... coming...

This is a blessing in disguise. Let the Halo kids migrate to MW2, and the mature players will enjoy Borderlands without some little kid spending the whole game punching us in the back of the head to start a duel.
Anyone else remember how great Shadowrun's community was when the game released? Then, three weeks later, the Halo 3 beta ended, and it directed the beta players to pick up Shadowrun. Overnight, Shadowrun was ruined and the community was overrun by Halo players. Teamwork and strategies ended, and trash-talking and shrill voices took over.
I want Borderlands to succeed, but I hope the community is comprised of older, mature gamers. I'm happy it's omitted from the poll.

Well said Frankie. Folks of the mature variety (though I use the word 'mature' loosely for myself, heh heh) should exchange gamertags/IDs through Joystiq. Nothing better than having a good group of players to join up with on a regular basis, and Borderlands is surely no exception to that rule. I'm all over that game.

Yeah I suggested similar in Previous posts. My gamertag is posted I every post I make! Haha it's up to you now! How does Cap'n Plantet put it, "The power is mine! But I'll let you borrow it through these stylish rings."
Also I feel halo 3 still has wayy too many children. That's the reason I stopped playing online with strangers.

Well, these kind of surveys don't always give you the answers you might expect. When you're in a store and some guy shoves a survey in your face, you probably just give the first answer that is in the tip of your mind rather than give it any serious consideration.
What we're looking at is probably a list of the top 8 most effective advertising campaigns.

While I like COD, I prefer the SP to the MP.
It's not as great as some people make it seem.
Still enjoyable but I can't be suck playing 1 MP game for long periods of time.
Just not my style

Lol, D0V3Y, Activision is the publisher, Infinity ward is the developer. I think you need to learn a little more about these things if you want to try an argue.

I enjoy the COD games but only play single-player, I never play multiplayer period, except for split-screen.
Sadly, I am in the very small minority here, the developers would rather produce multiplayer map packs than additional single player missions, its easier to make MP maps and more people will purchase them and play them. I would LOVE to purchase more SP missions for Modern Warfare. : (

I didn't like the first 3, but COD4's multiplayer was really addicting, and the matchmaking system was the best I've used. I still didn't like the single player much, but I liked the multiplayer enough to convince me to get MW2 over ODST for my multiplayer fix.

I like COD and will probably get MW2... BUUUUT after watching the HBO miniseries Generation Kill, I'm gonna feel a little unethical for playing a game that glorifies and sanitizes warfare to such an extent.

I'm probably in a minority of gamers. I like the "horde" and "firefight" type of "multiplayer", something I can share with friends. With that said, ODST was a day one purchase and MW2 will be something I can wait for a cheaper price point. But my next game will probably be Forza 3.

Not unless your next purchase is all of those games at once.

Drugs don't last as long as video games. Unless you're speed running.

Why is this in the PlayStation section? I do agree with the article on 2 things though:
1) "Halo fans are strange, otherworldly creatures...." :-)
2) I would definitely buy the same games on the list.....

Anyways, the list is a big fail: no Brutal Legend, Borderlands or NBA 2K10?

All I see is that they're paying 60 bucks for a glorified expansion pack and apparently are ignoring Brutal Legend.
For shame!

Well, Ricco, it isn't a 'glorified expansion pack' - the campaign is as long as the other Halos, it has its' own multiplayer modes and all the maps from Halo 3.

Hmmm,
I've been reading on GAF and other places about people ripping through it between 3 and 5 hours on Heroic. If that's not the case then I take my words back (but not about Brutal Legend)

IGN and Joystiq put the campaign at between 6 and 7 hours. I wouldn't put more credence into anything at NeoGAF.
Anyway, it started as an expansion and then was developed into a full game. They explained that. You could argue that any sequel is a glorified expansion too if you really wanted to. It has little impact as it's just used to make for a stronger anti-'insert game name here' stance whenever its used.

No, Halo players aren't going to wait 5-6 months between buying ODST and buying Final Fantasy XIII, or any other game for that matter.

Family Feud definately doesn't have categories but I think after the survey they take the liberty of "interpreting" some of the answers in order to combine them.

People, check the source link. This survey was only conducted with people who will buy or have bought ODST. There are PS3 and Wii games on the survey, but what do you expect? Most of the people who were surveyed probably only play 360 or probably buy 2-3 games a year (ODST and MW2, or ODST and then ME2 4+ months later).

Joystiq readers lack of reading comprehension disturbs me. People who check Joystiq on a regular basis aren't the same people who will wait 4+ months before buying a new game. The people who chose Mass Effect 2 on the survey are essentially committing to playing ODST between now and early 2010 when ME2 is released.

my thoughts exactly! why is this in the PSN section? we got our own major releases coming up (even though i own a 360 myself)
