Among the truckloads of possibly legit megatons included in the alleged leaked minutes from a meeting between Sega of America and Sony Computer Entertainment America, a number of notable gaffes and oddities can be found. Besides wondering if "characters from [the] Rare or Fable universes" should be included in Sonic Racing, it appears that Sega may be interested in assigning all of its properties a PlayStation Home-room. Oh, and a product evaluator thought Alpha Protocol felt "barely RPG" -- final analysis: make it even more Mass Effect-y.
Additionally, the mention of PS2 games as downloadable content on PSN makes us reminisce all the way back to mid-2006 when the idea first popped up on our radar --- surely, this isn't why Sony removed built-in backwards compatibility? And either the person taking minutes was daydreaming or knows something we don't, as reference is made to "Eidos' Batman" featuring "PS3/PSP interoperability" support -- a Batman or related DC Comics PSP game then? Juicer still, that little mention comes right after talk of a project named "Vanquish" and a possible PSP iteration of the currently shelved Aliens: Colonial Marines that Gearbox Software is working on. Also, Sony is eager to check out that hopefully not-so-crappy Thor game soon (suggestion: make it less Iron Man 2-y).
The cherry on top comes in the form of what we've been calling around the Joystiq water cooler: "Sonic and the Inverted Castle." Found under the "Sonic Anniversary" subhead, the note taker jots down, "SCEA would love PSN exclusive power ups/different game modes (like Castlevania's flip it over/backwards)." Actually, we believe that's Missy Elliott who puts the thing down, flips it and reverses it, thank you very much.

While it's still a possibility, I highly doubt it would happen Though they said if they did make shenmue 3 it would likely be Shenmue 1+2+3 included together (maybe all on the same Blu-ray). Technically right now it's in a "pending" state.

Rare characters in the 360 version of Sonic Racing make some sense, but why would Sega and Sony be talking about that?

I think they were using it as an example of what will be in the 360 version of the game....and they need PS characters to differentiate the 2 SKUs.....

These notes are purported to be from Sega, which would explain why they would mention it. For example, if Google and Apple are at a meeting the person taking notes for Apple is going to be phrasing their own Apple-centric references. Sega might already have worked out with MS to have these characters or could just be using them as a frame of reference.

Fable II has a few endearing personalities, but really, the only character I care about is my own. If this wasn't BS, I don't see how they could fit Fable into a Sonic Racing game.
Also, if this leak is the real deal, which seems more unlikely by the second, I'd have to imagine they are talking about an alternative for PlayStation. Sonic Racer may have Rare and Fable characters on the 360 version so they are working with Sony to get characters from their IP. It's so poorly written / worded that it's hard to make anything of it.

I love the guy on the end of page one who's bashing the PS3 and it's ability to have downloadable games and PSN games because there's no storage on the PS3... were people that misinformed then?
That and the "Blu Ray is the betamax of the 21 century" made me chuckle.

lol...LOTS of people thought Blu-ray would fail...I was one of the few that didn't simply because of the fact that the PS3 would have it built in and would be in MILLIONS of homes a lot faster than ANY HD-DVD player...
but yea....people were misinformed for sure...

HD-DVD had studio support as well....the fact is that Studios leaned MORE towards Blu-ray because of what they KNEW it would become and the fact that it would be more BD players in homes than HD-DVD players....even with the last 6 months of the "War" having $100 HD-DVD players....it wasnt enough

Wow there sure were a lot of Nintendo fanboys on Joystiq in 2006. People actually thought the Revolution, or Wii, was going to be a huge thing. Well it was a huge thing for Nintendo, but not that huge for gamers. Oh and why the fuck was it cool to hate on Sony. Oh right because people pissed their pants when they heard about the $600 price tag on the PS3.

What do you think retail outlets, ebay, and the stock market are for? Selling/Buying things that are currently owned by someone. Even if WPstart's comment wasn't a joke, your rebuttal was.

This blog entry mentions "Vanguard" and even has a "vanguard" tag, but unless Joystiq's own printing of the minutes is wrong, Ben means "Vanquish," which is what is written just before the reference to "Aliens: CM." Also, I find it odd that "Valkyria 1937" (presumably Valkyria Chronicles 2) and "PSU2" (presumably Phantasy Star Universe 2, though it should actually be PSP2, Phantasy Star Portable 2) are both listed as candidates for PSP bundles. As much as I am a fan of Valkyria, I don't see either game as a PSP system seller, given the US sales performances of their predecessors. It just makes no sense.

Wolverine the game says hi. Marvel mentioned that they would like to see more games in that quality range as opposed to Iron Man type bottom feeders.

I'm not sure I believe a lot of this stuff, and if it's only from minutes, they could merely be nothing but possibilities that were thrown out during a meeting, none of them necessarily need to be true..
But the Sonic Racing game actually looks pretty good, guest characters could make things a little more interesting, but surely Sega have enough characters to use alone? If we're going to see Banjo Kazooie or Briar Rose, I demand Ryo Hazuki in his fork lift.
Speaking of which, I'd love to see the Dreamcast thing happen.. I've been dying to replay the Shenmue games, Skies of Arcadia, Sonic Adventure and Jet Set Radio, but my Dreamcast died a long time ago. But I'm not getting my hopes up until we see something a little more official.

This is not from a meeting from Sega TO Sony right? These are just notes from a Sega internal meeting? Cause if it's internal then Rare and Fable COULD be a part of an multi console strategy their mulling over. Plus anything 360 related would not be y'know... taboo.
Also, Sonic's going to Ipsen's Castle now?

I'm sorry, Joystiq, but I'm fairly certain that Alexey Pajitnov is the king of putting the thing down, flipping it, and reversing it; however, Missy Elliott does prove to be an undeniably worthy adversary.
