It was only a few months ago that Ferrari officially unveiled the successor to the F430 in the much rumored Ferrari 458 Italia. With Forza 3 just over a month away, we can certainly understand how developer Turn 10 couldn't find extra time to fully develop the brand new car for its game. Even though the game went gold recently, the developer got right back to work, announcing recently that the mid-engine V8 monster will arrive as DLC this holiday. There's even a sweet video of the car in action that you can see above (and compare it with the real thing found after the break).
We pressed Microsoft for a price and only heard back, "We're not announcing any other details about the Ferrari vehicle at this time, other than to celebrate its inclusion in the game since it's a sick car." Maybe Microsoft will gift us all free Ferraris for the hoidays!
Wow this is a joke compared to the GT5 video featuring the same car... If only they would announce a date for the game: http://www.shackvideo.com/?id=15275
How is it a "joke" in comparison to the GT vid? If I'm not mistaken I believe the GT video is not real-time (I remember a few GT fans on the Gametrailers forums mentioning this). The only real standout between the two is the better music in the GT vid. Also, the Forza vid seems to at least provide a visual history of the Ferrari line, which is nice.
With that said...from a visual aesthetic prospective; F430 > 458. Shit I think I may even prefer the 360 Modena styling.
Are you joking? This video pissed all over the GT vid.
It's so funny how they both release a video about this car at the same time, they're properly battling it out to see who's best. This competition is better than Fifa vs Pro Evo in my opinion.
That's what makes the GT5 vid even more amazing... People think it's not rendered in real-time but it IS and was confirmed by Polyphony on the PlayStation Blog. That's what GT5 will *really* look and play like. I can't wait. As I said, if only they would announce a date.
I won't be buying either of the games, because I prefer arcade racers (hello Burnout). Given my racing tastes, you know that I don't give a crap over tire flex or remarkably accurate lugnut physics. So for me and any others who aren't anally retentive, the gameplay for both games will be the same.
But the videos really show a marked difference between Forza and GT. Not in terms of petty crap like visuals over which the above circle jerk seems to be about, but one in terms of philosophy.
The Forza trailer, may not look as good, but the sound is there, the roar of the engine is immediate and engaging. And there's competition, it's not just a lone car on show. There's an attitude there. Even the name "Forza" has that air, like an exclamation, like Countach.
GT on the other hand, is more refined, more classical. You never hear the engine sounds, because the lines are more important. Whereas the Forza soundtrack ramps up half way through, the GT one stays relatively muted, it doesn't seem one to shout. Forza barrels down narrow streets, GT zooms along long sweeping curves.
Is there a conclusion to be drawn from this? Probably, but it's interesting nonetheless.
That's actually a very interesting breakdown. From your analysis and from my own observation, Forza seems to have a strict American flare to it while GT is distinctly more European. Nice observation, though.
You've said it perfectly. My original comment suggests I think the GT vid was crap. I've watched it again, in HD, and I agree completely with your comment on the 2 different styles they have. The Forza vid does not 'piss all over' the GT vid, they just have 2 very distinct styles and are just about as good.
The Forza style is more appealing to me personally, but I'm sure many people prefer that 'classical' style of GT. That's exactly how GT4 felt to me too.
Can you really even compare Forza to Gran turismo? I'm not trying to be a fanboy here but the biggest appeal to Forza is being able to paint cool styles on cars and not the driving itself. Gran Turismo is so elegant and perfectly replicates the look and fell of all the cars in the game ... and they always have a shit fuck ton of cars. I do think Gran Turismo is for the car enthusiast and not the more casual player. I'm not saying Forza is casual or that it isn't good. i'm just saying you can't really compare it to Gran Turismo. They don't play, feel or look the same. They are completely different experiences. I would compare Forza more to Project Gotham racing than Gran Turismo. Maybe Forza is stepping up to the big boy show this time around.
johnnynumber5 said "Can you really even compare Forza to Gran turismo? I'm not trying to be a fanboy here but the biggest appeal to Forza is being able to paint cool styles on cars and not the driving itself."
For an alternative point of view. "Can you really even compare Gran Turismo to Forza? I'm not trying to be a fanboy here but the biggest appeal to Gran Turismo is watching the pretty cars and not the driving itself."
From my time with prologue (I have a mate who's nuts for GT so I spend a lot of time playing prologue) the physics models are still....crap. Front wheel drive cars that can power oversteering through corners (seriously WTF?), front engined rear wheel drive cars that have snappy lift off oversteer mid corner...the cars are just wrong. Real world cars don't/can't handle like that.
I don't dislike either game, I just can't let the preposterous notion that either of these games is a racing simulator stand without contention.
Niether Forza or GT5 is a pure sim. Arcade game with sim elements at best
I never said _I_ rented it ;) A friend of mine who was feeling rather flush with cash and one of his actor buddies (who is a c or b-lister at the very best, but does get regular work) rented the Spider and a Bentley Continental GT. I got to drive 'em both. And frankly, the Bentley is more my style.
That said, I'm also 31. As you get older you'll find yourself with more income and resources, and the same will be true for your friends. Renting expensive cars is part of the fun! And fyi, if you're friends with the guy at the rental place, you don't pay the price on the website. ;)
2008, won't read any disks. Did everything I could to try and fix it, could just send it in to Sony and pay $150 but I'm just gonna see if my family will get me a slim for Christmas considering I'm broke.
Might pick this one up. dont have any racing games this gen. any recommendations for a good arcadey racing game, somewhere along the lines of the old Rush series?
I had a lot of fun with both GRiD and Burnout Paradise. Burnout had some of the best implemented and slickest DLC I have ever seen in a game. I spent hours upon hours drifting around in GRiD and had an absolute blast. I would definitely advise you to check out either of the two (probably Burnout about GRiD).
The BEST game for you, Sir - MIDNIGHT CLUB LA - They are coming out with a re-boxing for $30 that has all the DLC ... That is the best game for casual racing fans. It has a cool story and is just "fun" to play. WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY WAY better than the overrated Burnout Paradise. In fact, I think Burnout is lame as hell. It was nothing like the old burnout games and felt choppy. Midnight Club LA all the way.
Hey in Need For Speed Shift you can simply PAY for cars instead of earning them. Maybe thats more up your alley. Instead of having to earn vehicles and move forward in a game just pay for it and BOOM you have all the cars. Maybe you can even pay for cheevies soon. Hell maybe they'll make a robot that plays the game for you. If you can't pass the liscense test you don't deserve the cars. PERIOD.
Seriously fuck Gran Turismo, I should have to work hours upon hours to earn that fucking car I have my eye on THEN do another 2-3 hours of work on top of that. It's useless! It's like saying he you did all that work to get to the final boss, now to play the tutorial level to get you back up to speed on what you we're doing the entire game.

yes you asked for it.
The gt5 video was pre-rendered or mostly pre-rendered. This is in-game.
People need to get over it, they're both going to be great games.

I think that the GT video is using the ingame assets but rendered (out of the game engine) to get some of those effects...
If it is in-game, then that's pretty sweet. Both racers are starting to cross the line between video game graphics and reality.
