Free Batman 'Prey in Darkness' DLC detailed, arrives tomorrow on PS3 in NA [update]
Late summer blockbuster Batman: Arkham Asylum receives another dose of free DLC with the "Prey in the Darkness" map pack tomorrow on Xbox 360 and PS3. The "Heart of Darkness" map will have Bats battling baddies at the Arkham Pumping Station, while "Hothouse Prey" has the detective using his predator skills to silently dispose of henchmen in the conservatory (i.e., the Abandoned Glasshouse).
Remember to check out the free "Insane Night" map pack if you somehow missed it last week ... oh yeah, and don't forget to check out the game if you've somehow missed out on that, too.
Update: Seems worth mentioning that the UK allegedly (and accidentally) has this up on the Xbox Marketplace already.
Update 2: It appears that Europe will receive the DLC on both consoles, while North America will only have it on PS3. There is no word about when the pack will arrive on the North American Xbox Marketplace. Yeah ... we don't understand it either.

WREturns(There was once a dream called Rome) @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:05PM
I hope they make a new installment relatively quickly. It'd be rad if it were based in Gotham, total open world, different supervillains controlling different parts of the city and taking them down in a different order changed the story.
Sidebuster @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:28PM
LIke infamous? That would be rad.
Fullmetal Salchemist @ Sep 23rd 2009 3:53PM
An open world would be awful. Arkham Asylum worked because the island was a relatively small place. Stealthing around a massive city would be a pain in the ass.
WREturns(There was once a dream called Rome) @ Sep 23rd 2009 4:52PM
You wouldn't need to stealth around all the time, only around baddies. You could glide/grapple around the city or take the batmobile/batwing.
Filthy Assistant @ Sep 23rd 2009 6:38PM
No, the engine wouldn't work in a totally open world. However, multiple areas connected by a hub (batcave most likely) would work well.
captainprotonx @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:06PM
We need an "Open grates" missions.
How many grates can you open in succession.
Don't get me wrong. I love the game. But fuck...so many grates.
CTC XBL-supapaypamawio PSN-ctclaw @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:13PM
I started playing through it this week and yes there are way to many grates. I'm only about 25% of the way through and I've gone through a couple hundred I think.
Kev (XBL: ksiddique) @ Sep 23rd 2009 11:41PM
Yeah. Hammering the A button was fun the first, and maybe second, time. But after that it was kind of annoying. Yeah, Batman is strong enough to open the grate. Just do it already!
copa @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:07PM
Luckily i have 80 points lying around and don't have to spend $0 for 0 points just to get this.
dark_inchworm (stronger than never, ever before) @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:20PM
lol. Good show.
captainprotonx @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:07PM
We can see you being banned.
Halo Pony @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:09PM
This place is reporting that this DLC pack will be exclusive to the PS3 in North America.
Not trying to start something, just throwing this out there, it may warrant investigation to see if it's true.

"The new content will be available beginning Sept. 24 as a free download on PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Marketplace in Europe, on PlayStation Network ONLY in North America."
Snowblind @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:26PM
It's been up on Xbox Live since this morning.
So you can safely assume the rumour is false.
Alton Brown [ XBL: LordToastington, Soon-To-Be-PSN: OrIsItAltonBrown] @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:27PM
It may be a mistake. It would be odd, seeing as how it hasn't been announced as exclusive, at least to my knowledge.
Snowblind @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:30PM
Okay, apparantly the content isn't up in the US.
But even if it does turn out to be an exclusive, it requires little more than having a hotmail.co.uk account. I honestly don't see why they'd bother.
Double J @ Sep 23rd 2009 3:33PM
It's more than just some rumblings, considering it was posted on the official Arkham forum that it's most certainly NOT coming to the 360 in the US anytime soon.

I love how the person who provided the real facts, without any fanboyism or anything, got downvoted to oblivion.
Special Agent Steve @ Sep 23rd 2009 7:16PM
No plans for it on the PC???? WTF. I call bullshit. And how is it not on the 360 in NA? This makes no sense.
Shadow_Modder @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:12PM
Well, it's good to have more locations to play at, and some more challenges, but the combat rooms get pretty repetitive, especially if you are going for the trophies/achievements. I'm looking at you damn Shock and Awe(Extreme)!!
Here's hoping for some side story DLC or something along the lines, even if it's paid.
Big_Lozbowski @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:19PM
LOL! Don't get me started! I JUST completed shock and awe (extreme) today and it was a nightmare! I swear I nearly snapped my PS3 controller on Saturday night with rage, I did the level but i was 400 points shy of 30000.
I would love some more Batman skins but yeah any DLC for thi game is great!
Viper20184 @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:15PM
This is great... free DLC on both 360 and PS3. How are they getting away with it, while some companies state that MS force them to sell their DLC. Is it just the 360 exclusives being forced to sell or is it because this is a "minor" DLC?

Jibba Jabba @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:19PM
this dlc is already out here in uk for xbox 360 already downloaded it. predator challenge is pretty crap but the combat one is one this Bomberman style map where the panels gradually get electrified from the outside of the map to the outside which is cool
Big_Lozbowski @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:21PM
Opening grates is a lot less hassle when you get the three pronged bat claw. But yeah there are a LOT
RKN @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:24PM
Is this coming to the PC, please???
Snowblind @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:28PM
I believe the other pack did, so I don't see why this one wouldn't.

Noah @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:38PM
This really makes me wish that I had an Ethernet connection instead of wireless so I could get my 360 online and bask in the glory of this free DLC. I don't have a stand right now on free vs. payed DLC, but man, this is awesome!
Deezul @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:45PM
If you're on a Windows machine, use ICS and share a wired ethernet port. Then use a cross cable to connect your 360 to the ethernet port, and boom, Internet connected 360.
Obie @ Sep 23rd 2009 2:42PM
I applaud this free DLC, they could've packed these two DLC's together and charged us, but thankfully Batman's sense of justice prevailed.
Double J @ Sep 23rd 2009 3:08PM
It's not coming to the US on the 360. It's available in EU for the 360 and PS3, but it's PS3 only in the US. At least for now.

at moments when we think that over greedy corporate machine is taking over and raising prices, such as MW2 in Europe / Halo 3 Expansion, we are rewarded with the kindness of this, leaving us to wonder, why?
some people are nicer than others i guess
WiNG [XBL&Steam: WiNGSPANTT] from lifeinagame.com @ Sep 23rd 2009 5:12PM
Either that or they're whetting our appetites for DLC maps, then creating new, paid-for maps. Well, it might just work, so kudos to them!
Halo Pony @ Sep 23rd 2009 3:32PM
Yep, looks like PS3 only in the US.
There's going to be a lot of European Live Accounts created for this. =P

Kind of like that GTA IV DLC... or Fallout 3 DLC... or that upcoming MW 2 DLC...
Yeah I don't get it either.
rruss79 @ Sep 23rd 2009 7:51PM
GTA was paid for and so was Fallout. Its just weird that EU gets the DLC but not NA. This is definitely some strange Sony exclusive DLC deals they have going on. Anyway like someone already said, if you want it for the 360 in NA, you just need to create a EU account.
CaramelZappa @ Sep 23rd 2009 9:04PM
The ps3 but not the 360, but only in north america? Why? Also, what about the PC?
I understand making a game only for one platform, but being picky about how each platform gets extras like DLC is just lame. A person who bought this game deserves to play all the content regardless of what platform they bought it on.
ToadStoolPorridge (PSN: tennispro_99) @ Sep 23rd 2009 10:29PM
When I start having more time for gaming, this will be at the top of my list to buy and play. Everything from the reviews to the comments about it make it sound like an incredible game. Couple that with this free DLC and the previous free DLC...How can I not be tempted?!
RandomZero @ Sep 24th 2009 3:08PM
According to a few folks on the AA/Eidos forums, it's a deal they made with Sony. This particular pack is PS3 only, at least in the US.
