Speaking about upcoming co-op zombie shooter Left 4 Dead 2 at EA's Tokyo press conference today, Valve's Kim Swift announced intentions to release a demo on October 27. Though no platforms were explicitly mentioned, we're betting pre-orders on both Xbox 360 and PC platforms will be getting first dibs, as Valve has already stated.
From what we understand, the demo will feature multiplayer, though we're not sure to what capacity this will extend. Either way, Xbox 360 and PC owners will get a chance to try out at least some of the 10 melee weapons well before the game's November 17 release. We'll ask EA for more details on the demo as the Tokyo Game Show continues this week.

Not much of a challenge there, he'd either eat the zombies or just talk them away

Oh man I miss this show. I was saying I'm not going to by L4D2 until a price drop, but if someone replaces that characters voice files with clips from Fresh Prince, I'll buy the game in a heartbeat.

Yeah, too bad Valve, who primarily develops PC games, has said multiple times they aren't going to support the PC. You forget that the PS3's all-powerful cell processor is nothing like the PC architecture, which means buggy, sub-par ports that take an unnecessarily long time to do.
Not to mention we're talking about the Source engine here, The engine is pretty old and doesn't require that much in terms of raw power. Also they would basically have to rebuild it from the ground up to get it working properly on the PS3.
The Cell architecture is why the PS3 version of the Orange Box is inferior, and why you will never play Left 4 Dead on the PS3.

I played the free weekend of L4D 1 & got bored w/ it @ the time. However looking back now my tastes in gaming have slightly changed since then. Considering the fact that in L4D2 I can battle my utmost fears (Ok maybe not fear...but as a kid my mom decorated my room w/ paintings of clowns...they freaked me out) of clowns by playing this game...not to mention being able to make mods/maps of the PC version...I'll be signing up on this one pretty quick.

So with a demo coming soon, can we expect the minimum specs soon? I'm hoping its the same as the first one. My computer's pretty crap.

I haven't seen much graphical improvement, but Valve is pretty good with making their games run on old hardware, I wouldn't be too worried. And thanks to the demo you'll be able to see how well it runs on your system before it's released.

Valve is a PC developer, and while developing for the PC and XBOX is pretty straightforward to them, the PS3 has a completely different architecture. They're a relatively small company focused on making the best quality games that they can, so if they developed it for the PS3 it would take up far too many resources for them, and would result in a lower quality game for everyone. They've dabbled in the idea of hiring PS3 developers, and with the recent price drop and sales surge they might, but they learned from the Orange box that rushing a product to a platform they aren't ready to develop for isn't going to work out well. (EA developed the PS3 version of the orange box, and by all accounts it was by far the worst version of the game)

If Rockstar won't let him have a sequel to rebuild his empire, then he might as well kill zombies for Valve

I'll play the demo but it's going to have to be a LOT better than L4D for me to get this on launch. L4D was great but didn't hold my interest very long and I soon went back to TF2.
By the way, now that they're wrapping up L4D2, how about some Episode 3? Long overdue.

Until you feel left out because all your friends are playing it and not L4D1 and you find it at the bargain price of $5 off and feel like you've stuck it to the man because he didn't get those $5.
L4D1 fans boycotting the game is as silly an idea as Halo 3 fans boycotting ODST. If you're a fan, you WILL pick it up eventually because that's just what you do.

Looks like someone missed the news that L4D2 as well as a handful of other games are banned in Australia.

to save time, why doesn't Australia just get it over with and simply ban ALL video games period. they're obviously evil and contributing to the downfall of western civilization.

Holy crap! Uncle Phill is in Left 4 Dead 2! Completely sweet. Can't wait until we have some skins for the allied characters, zombies, and special infected that all revolve around the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air cast. XD
Can't wait until the day it comes out. I played the first Left 4 Dead demo on Xbox Live about 18 times in one sitting. It never got old. My friends would play it with me, and when we got to the last room, the one before the safe-room, we'd go all out on eachother and throw molotovs and stuff at eachother. It was basically a free-for-all. XD
I hope I can have more fun in this demo than I did in the last.
