We've seen ads promoting the Wii's heretofore unconfirmed new $199 price point from Target and Toys R Us -- however, Engadget recently got its hands on the crown jewel of retailer news leakage: A purported internal Best Buy memo which confirms the discount will go into effect this coming Sunday, September 27. The memo requests that blue-shirted employees keep the cut under wraps until Nintendo formally announces the new price this coming Friday. You guys are doing a great job of that so far.
We'll keep an ear to the ground this Friday for an announcement from the Big N.
Update: Kotaku is reporting that SCEA has directly referenced the new $199 price point for Wii during a presentation to Best Buy employees in Kansas City, Missouri. Can we please put a fork in this one?

Nowhere near that. Especially with the bad Yen-Dollar exchange rate. Indeed, there is some speculation that Nintendo might move back to break-even levels with this cut alone.
Also the fact that none of the parts in the Wii really have that much room to go down in cost, since the three more expensive components are used only in the Wii (CPU & GPU, for the case of being too outdated for any other use, and the disc drive, because of the peculiarities of GC backwards compatibility), the only cost they really could have brought down were actual manufacturing costs.

I can confirm that this is a legitimate posting to Best Buy's Employee Toolkit (ETK). The price drop will also take effect in POS (the registers) on Sunday as well.
I don't know why they ask BBY employees to keep things quiet when they're posted in ETK for all to see, it's just a given that 100 people are going to leak it.

Hopefully this price drop leads to another Christmas time shortage. I'll be able to put mine up on eBay without losing too much money.

If Nintendo doesn't do this, it will be an epic FAIL for them.

Doesn't everyone already own a Wii already?
"The costumer will be receptive to solutions"??
Isn't buying a Wii a "solution" to "Not having a Wii"?

The term "solution" is pure Best Buy speak. The "complete solution" is basically the item of interest along with a bundle of accessories that the customer may or may not need just for the sake of pushing up margin dollar earnings.
So, in the Wii's case, we're talking the Wii, three more Wiimotes, three nunchucks, at least two or three games, and virtually every other ridiculous add-on that's out for that hunk of white plastic.

First I am glad that some of you managed to get my sarcastic remark from earlier. I've seen enough emails from bosses acting like they know everything yet half of the message is misspelled or poorly written.
