Rumor: No Euro Wii price cut, new bundle to include both Wii Sports games, MotionPlus
Just like we saw earlier this year with the PlayStation 3 Slim, the rumor mill is churning at breakneck pace -- though this time around a possible Nintendo Wii price cut rather than a slimmer console. Aside from multiple retailer listings and today's alleged internal Best Buy memo, MCV reports that a "retail source" told it the UK won't be receiving the same price cut that North America and Japan are expected to receive. Instead, the current model will be given the bundle treatment.GamesIndustry.biz spotted the new bundle on ShopTo.net -- it has since been removed, though an image and a shell of the page still exist -- which includes both Wii Sports and Wii Sports Resort as well as a MotionPlus attachment, for the same £199.99 ($326.76) the system is priced at now. If it is true, at least UK Wii buyers will be getting a bit more for their pounds. It's not quite the Duck Hunt/Super Mario Bros. with a Zapper combo of yore, but it'll have to do.

The only way this bundle could get any better is if was a black Wii instead of the white one.
Oh, also, if it was released in the US as well.

Bugger
and when will they change that bloody wii-mote with motion plus controller with rubber condom and make a new simple looking one
SoshiKitai @ Sep 23rd 2009 5:21PM
Can't you take out the WM+ from the condom?
*tries it*
Yes, yes you can.
Arex @ Sep 23rd 2009 6:23PM
I think he means, when are they going to release a Wiimote with Wiimote+ already built right in.
Top Cat @ Sep 23rd 2009 4:38PM
I am so sick of saying this: only one country in Europe uses the pound sterling and mine certainly isn't one of them.
Spartan [Planeteer | Power of Sunshine & Lollipops] @ Sep 23rd 2009 4:56PM
But I like the pound sterling currency.
I remember back when Ocarina of Time was being advertised
There was this as that said "Save they golden coins" or something like that. I though
that it was a referrance to something you did in-game.
I took me a while to realise our £1 coins were actually gold -coloured, then I was like-
that's cool. And then the game was really really good. Though I don't know why because I never actually got very far in any other Zelda game before. but anyways, need to go now, still on a sugar-high (without any sugar)
kthnxbai.

"If it is true, at least UK Wii buyers will be getting a bit more for their pounds"
sounds specific to me.
Top Cat @ Sep 23rd 2009 6:05PM
Well having the word "Euro" in the post title without a reference to that currency is ridiculous.
The US bias on this site is completely understandable - it's an American one. The UK bias and the feeling that it represents all of Europe however, is inexcusable.
Josh @ Sep 23rd 2009 10:35PM
But the UK speaks English, so I can kind of see it from that perspective (though it's still not 'good').
esposch @ Sep 24th 2009 2:23AM
@Josh
So does most of Scandanavia (except for bloody Halgrim Halgrimson - need shitty yellow subtitles for that. :/).
What is your point?
WPstart @ Sep 23rd 2009 4:42PM
Nintendo increased the price of the Wii here in the UK several months back so a price cut was obviously not gonna happen.
Raj @ Sep 23rd 2009 7:45PM
That's weird, we sell the Wii at Currys for 180 like normal, I thought it was always that price; this new bundle seems like a price increase to me.
Yan @ Sep 23rd 2009 4:58PM
I feel for you, EuroBros.
Bradwart @ Sep 23rd 2009 5:17PM
That Wii bundle is probably cheaper than the NES was, adjusted for inflation.
Mr Khan @ Sep 23rd 2009 5:47PM
By far, i would imagine. NES was about $600 from launch, or something, if you adjust for inflation.
Mr Khan @ Sep 23rd 2009 5:49PM
What this rumor suggests is what would have been more sensible for them to do in America, too. Increase the value, before a cut. Maybe NoA is acting on its own in this regard, and Japan will get what Europe's getting (though they basically already have, via the MH3 bundle)
ben murray @ Sep 23rd 2009 6:51PM
Er the wii costs £179.99 here at moment. How is adding the game and raising the price by the cost of said game a good deal??
Rob47 @ Sep 23rd 2009 7:09PM
Over here a full Wiimote costs £63 ($102) i think they can afford to cut the price of the console a bit.
Cheapest console solution my arse.
Dv8thwonder @ Sep 23rd 2009 10:09PM
I'm calling Nintendo's new strategy the Purple Ocean.
Windmill @ Sep 23rd 2009 10:40PM
Fuck Nintendo. Where is the price cut for those of us that want to play games using traditional controllers only, and not pay for crap we don't want.
Stephen Guy @ Sep 24th 2009 12:11AM
Ah well, at least £1=$1.
Oh wait.
TheTjalian @ Sep 24th 2009 5:29AM
It sounds like people don't pay attention to the news around here. The RRP was upped to £199.99 in the early summer/late spring due to the "falling pound" (or some BS reason), but said retailers can always keep their prices at £180 if they wish, as it's illegal for them to make them raise the price. Which is true, but it's complete bullshit as it's forcing retailers to make a lower profit cut or be branded as "that shop which charges too much for Wii".
Anyway, I suppose this is a good way of getting MotionPlus in more people's hands quicker, and that £199 price point is a lot more excusable with Wii Sports Resort in there.
KONOHA @ Sep 29th 2009 5:20PM
Not a bad news at all for gamers from Euro. It's still a win-win situation for them since they get to have the MotionPlus. Now, since I read this article:
http://americanahost.com/computers/how-to-make-the-most-of-world-of-warcraft-cataclysm.html
I dunno if I should still buy game consoles or still stick with online games like Warcaft since both games looks very interesting.
