I will be really interested to hear if Davidson is going to stay with the site. Hope he talks about it on ListenUp this week.

No doubt. I'm happy for him. I've got nothing but respect for someone that takes a leap and starts their own business.

It's nice to see someone get a payout other than Ziff Davis.

So, IGN now has a new site to pimp to promoters. The site name will change periodically:

Whattheydrink.com when Mountain Dew drops a few bucks.
Whattheydrive.com for the next Fast and Furious fender bender.
Whattheywishtheyfuck.com when a new slasher movie hits with Megan Fox as lead.

IGN...I love you.

What They Play is a great site. The concept is something that the gaming industry desperately needs. It's clear that the whole What They Play team put a lot of love into that site..... so why sell to IGN? Isn't that sort of like letting your child get into a van with a stranger offering candy?

Strangers give the best candy and have the best DS games.

Grats to John and Ira. I also wonder if they'll stick with it or try out a new project.

There really is a problem with a country's government when a private company is the one educating people about the dangers of products.

This is the Government's responsibility but since the ESRB doesn't mean anything either (there are no laws which make selling an M rated game to a 5 year old illegal, for example) I guess those in Washington simply don't care.

Really? It's the Government's job to protect us from ourselves. Okay.....

Congrats to John and Ira. They built a great site and have a nice podcast. I really hope that John can continue on Listen Up. On the other hand, how do you think he'd play off of Greg Miller on Scoop?

I could go on for paragraphs about the constitutionality of such a law, and how that sort of censorship makes no sense in our society, but I'll water all of my thoughts down to one sentence for you.

It's the parent's' responsibility to monitor what their kids play - not the governments'.

Oh my gosh. I can't even comprehend your incomprehension of the concept of "safety."

Wow. What country am I in again?

What's next, thought police? Governmental book burnings (or the gaming equivalent)? Censorship of games like is seen in places like Australia where you can't buy many adult themed games, or Germany where symbols are banned? Green goo in place of blood?

Slippery slope. Be careful what you wish for...

is it also the government's job to vote your comment down to protect us from your madness?

I'm kind of sad about this. I loved that they were independent. But maybe this is the point. I hope John got a nice payout on this. Its a tremendous website for parents.

I also hope John is able to keep doing his guest spots on other podcasts as well as Listen Up.

Ugh.

Congrats to the creators of the site for its sale -- I hope they got enough $$. I can't wait for IGN to crap all over the site with a redesign that kills its accessability functional intent, and covers it with more large banner ad campaigns.

This can't be good. IGN's monetary interests are going to be highly corruptive, depending on how they approach this.

Well, I'd do it too.

I'll be sad to see it IGN-ified though... hopefully IGN at least understands what they just bought and keeps it aimed at the correct market.

Congrats to Mr. Davison (c'mon guys, it's not Davidson).
