TGS 2009: Microsoft's Phil Spencer easily envisions Fable, Natal crossover

During a Tokyo Game Show interview (look for the full transcript soon), Spencer told Joystiq that the innovation fostered inside Lionhead Studios made it a good match for Microsoft's forthcoming motion control system. "You know, Lionhead's been a real innovation studio for us," he said. "We have the release of Fable 2 episodic this week, where they're taking Fable 2 and breaking it up into chunks, allowing people to buy the content at their pace. Fable 2, I thought, was a great release, with the orbs they added with Live, adding new functionality to the franchise. It wouldn't surprise me in the least if Natal found its way into future iterations of Fable."
Whether or not motion functionality will show up in 2010's Fable 3 is a matter of speculation, though your role as king in that game would certainly lend itself to some interesting ... regal maneuvers. Waving your hand to permanently dispense with an annoying peasant? That's our kind of role playing.

Fable II's reliance on the use of expressions would be a perfect fit. Flipping the bird, thrusting vulgarly, or dancing... Could be good times!

So much for that... just read the announcement trailer post and I guess expressions are out for Fable III, to be replaced by "touch" gestures. Snogging in front of Natal would just be awkward.

Dunno if I care for natal in Fable (that almost sounds dirty). Hopefully you can opt out.
...I will say though that piture is frikkin hilarious! ^_^

I can't wait to do the timing events on Natal

Will there be a "back-handed bitch slap" feature? Sometimes you need a better form of communication with the women.

Fable and Natal are a perfect match.
MS MUST lead the way to show everyone how to use the technology appropriately in their games.
Look at Nintendo first party wii launch titles and everyone else. There was an extended 'feeling-out' period with the wiimote/nunchuck controller.
Here's hoping MS have some creative minds working hard to bring something new and fun to the motion control arena.

This could be interesting during baby makin' time.

Project Natal will be a failure that only the biggest tech apologists will support. It is just another technology that promises the moon and delivers nothing except an excuse to have an epileptic fit in your livingroom instead of relaxing on the couch.

Is that picture concept art for Fable 3? Or something totally different?
Zoot Suit Jedi @ Sep 24th 2009 12:48PM
the former.

The more I think about Natal being in gaming the more I realize it's retarded. I will probably buy it just to navigate menus. That's some awesome functionality.

I have a feeling the AI that was used for Milo just might play a big role in Fable III. Speculation of course gaiz, speculation.

I can't wait to see how Molyneux promises the universe this time and falls flat on everything. Seriously let's be honest for a second, what did he change from the original Fable? NOTHING.
He added a retarded dog and everyone just seems to forget all the major problems it has. Hell it was a useless dog, all it did was show spots to dig shit up. Dogmeat in Fallout 3 found items, fought enemies and more useful than that thing ever was.
The co-op was a joke, period. You can't defend it at all.
The hype has people actually believing they liked Fable 2 while various stockholder meetings had them laughing at you.

Fable 2 wasn't that bad. It was a fun playthrough, but I wouldn't really want to touch the game again. Mostly because of the bug that makes the game run slower and slower the longer you progressed in it.
