About time they made this more appealing...

Might be a good way to get more people to experience gems like Patapon and Echochrome, even if the latter literally twisted my brain into an Escher-esque painting.

Appealing? In order to get this deal you already have to have invested in a PSP and games.... which makes the PSP-Go pretty pointless. You essentially already have a better version of PSP.

My girlfriend and I not currently owning a PSP at all, the Go is a viable solution for us - we are on the go quite a bit so not carrying around UMDs would make a ton of sense, we don't have an existing game library to port over, and I find the pricing to be (mostly) fair for the current titles on the PSN Store.

The problem is that the PSN Store has a HORRIBLE selection. Sure, the PSone games are nice (I can't wait to experience FF7 and FFT, Twisted Metal 2, etc) and the PSP Minis look excellent - but of the actual PSP titles (of which there are only a current total of 65 out of the nearly one thousand PSP games that exist) only a handful are anywhere near recent (and I'm not even sure Patapon 2 and KIllzone: Liberation are even THAT recent).

What we're left with, as far as I can tell, on PSP Go launch day is a PSN Store with the promise of what, Motorstorm? and a bunch of pretty old PSP games.

I don't expect Sony to port all one thousand existing PSP games to the PSN Store, but how in the world is the current selection supposed to be at all appealing to those of us considering a purchase?! Hell, I even CALLED Sony (800-345-SONY) in the hopes that somebody might answer my question. I received no answer.

We have a Pearl White and a Black, one of each, pre-ordered and fully paid for at Best Buy totalling $548, and so far Sony has not at all convinced me that I should be giving them this money.

Is anybody has any insight, I'd be incredibly F-ing greatful because at this point i'm afraid of the PSP-3000 (ghosting, and we like the body style of the Go better) and Sony in general is just angering me. =\

patapon 2 is reasonably recent. it's the second most recent game out of that list.

Is Sony trying to make me not want to buy one of these? Sure the price was high, but that wasn't really bothering me too much. Europe gets a free copy of Gran Turismo and to choose from 3 first party PSP games... I wonder what they're going to do for the U.S. in lieu of this announcement.

Yeah, but they have to already own those titles on UMD. It's not three free PSP titles.

Wrong.

"What you'll be able to do is download 3 games from a selection of 17; these can either be games from your current UMD collection or 3 new titles," Sony explains

How can it be a new title if they have to put a UMD in the drive?

I get it now... You don't have to have the Patapon UMD to download Patapon. You put ANY UMD in the drive and it registers you. Then you can pick three from the list of titles to download to your Go...

That makes more sense, but it still won't get me to buy a PSP Go. I have too many great titles that I wouldn't be able to play anymore.

too true.
i mean, i've got about 17 games on UMD, 5 games downloaded from the PSN, plus all my save data on my Pro Duo stick.
i'd rather not think about the pain in the ass it would be to transfer everything to the Go's new format.

the Go seems like a decent purchase for those who don't already have a PSP.
but for those with a PSP already in their pockets... i don't see too many people "upgrading."

save data can be transferred via through the pc i can probably say the same for the psn games. but 3 games isnt enough incentive to switch over, especially for the longtime owners of the original psp that probably have 20+ games.
something like this should work with all your games at the initial registration then after that you have to buy anytihng on the psn.

So, if someone owns a PSP and say 10 games, decides to get the PSP Go because it's new and exciting, they're forced to shell out £250, make all their old games useless and given a choice of 3 games from a list of 17, all of which look like they're not exactly "top sellers"...yeah, that sounds like a good deal to me...

Yeah, unless you trade in the old PSP or sell it to make the Go cheaper, which most people would probably do. Why would you want two PSPs that are only slightly different? Buy a 16 GB Memory Stick Pro Duo and put it in your old PSP, and then you have a PSPGo with a UMD drive. Problem solved.

No they will not become useless. If you own a PSP and some UMD titles and then buy a PSP Go, your UMD titles will still work in your original PSP.

It would be nice if we could upload the UMD titles we own to the new PSP Go, but I doubt they will allow this (even though they should by all means do so). It is sort of like how Apple is constantly removing backwards compatibility.

I'm sorry, but how dumb would you have to be to buy a PSP Go if you already own an original PSP and intend to keep it? Do you enjoy throwing money away? If that's the case, I would like you to ship the money to my address instead. I will even pay for your shipping and might even throw in a five dollar gift card as a thank you.

Can you guys just stop? You don't have to buy the PSP Go. That's why Sony gave you the option. This is more appealing to new customers or people like myself who don't like carrying around UMD's. More than half the games people say they have they don't even play anymore.

Really? Because all my friend s say they're getting it, plus look at this deal from EB Games and Gamestop: http://www.ebgames.com/gs/specialty/tradeins/default.aspx#extra10or20

Maybe it's because I'm rich. IDK no offense, but I couldn't care less about your opinion because you're just another whiner just like those people complaining about BC on PS3, I'm getting it. And how is it a piece of garbage if it does the same things? Go play your old PSP

Yes, this is rather underwhelming. I was expecting Sony to offer some sort of trade in program to allow people to get digital copies of their UMD games (e.g. send in your game and get a download voucher in return). This really does little to get current PSP owners to buy a Go, especially if their UMD library is of decent size.

I was under the same impression. Either that or you could transfer your UMD games via the PS3. Sure you'd have to own a PSP, PS3, and PSPgo...but I figure if you've already spent all of that money on Sony's products, you should not be effed out of playing the games you already bought on your new system this late in the PSP brand's lifespan.

... but most of those games are $20 new on UMD. Let's do the math:

PSP Go! with 3 free games: $250
3 games for your current PSP: $60

So, basically, you're going to pay $190 more for the exact same games? Doesn't sound like a deal to me...

No, you paid $190 more than is necessary to play those games. This deal only applies if you have an existing, working PSP. So, you can spend $60 and buy those games for your working PSP, or spend $250 to get those games and a duplicate PSP. If you already have a PSP, why do you need another one?

Maybe this makes sense if you really want a PSP Go!, but if you already have a working PSP, what do you need it for? I think I'm starting to understand how people get up to their eyes in debt...

Since they already splintered their customer base by removing the UMD drive, I don't understand why they didn't just add a 2nd stick and call this the PSP2. Or had their Erickson division put a phone in it and call it a day. That, I would have considered upgrading to.

Most of you guys are forgetting that the PSP-3000 is selling alongside the PSP Go. So if you don't like the Go (for whatever reason), buy the 3000 model. SONY is not forcing everyone to buy the more expensive PSP.
