As we discovered at E3 earlier this year, the PSP Go isn't compatible with your current PSP accessories, including the rarely-used PSP camera. With Invizimals coming to the PSP next year, we wondered if PSP Go owners would miss out on the fun. The good news: Sony's figured out a solution. The bad news? It looks like the picture you see above.
"With the new Converter Cable Adaptor, PSPgo users will be able to utilize the existing peripherals for PSP," Sony announced at Tokyo Game Show today. Peripherals like the 1Seg Tuner and GPS Receiver will be able to fit in the Go's proprietary "Multi use connector." Looking at the picture, this "cable" will wrap around the system, letting PSP Go owners plug new devices atop the system. Considering it adds a significant amount of bulk to the system, doesn't this conversion defeat the portable aspect of the Go entirely?

I don't it's that ugly. It could definitely look much worse.
At least it mostly maintains a round shape.
Would never buy it tho. I would have to have a desire to buy the Go first anyways.

I keep wondering when Sony is going to surprise everyone by saying "GOTCHA, like we would actually put out a PSP without disc compatibility, then charge MORE for it. HA, suckers".
However, this is looking less and less likely.
At this point, it will wind up being "GOTCHA, I can't believe we put out a PSP without disc compataibility, and charged more for, and you guys bought them. HA, suckers".
Good job, Sony, you've convinced us all you do not want to make a profit on this generation of gaming.

I'm still confused why Sony placed the name Go when there's already the Portable name in PSP. The name portable these days mean on the go, right?

I wouldn't be surprised if Sony decided to release a UMD reader 'cable'.

When Sony first announced the PSP go, I was bummed cuz I had just picked up the 3000. Then I heard confirmed no UMD, and then the price point, and realized I had no interest in paying $80 more for the privelege of paying Sony full price for new games as opposed to cheap, used UMD's. I hope no sports fans buy the go, as they will be forced to pay $40 every year for a roster update. And using the analog stick looks super-awkward.
The only cool feature is the ability to pause and exit a game, as i hate being forced to play through to the next checkpoint before going to watch a movie or listen to music. But shouldn't that be in the next 3000 update, as in it's a software issue?... I guess as it is the only real selling point, they may withhold it. If so, Sony, you are an abusive mother.

I'm not sure about older PSPs with official firmware, but I use 5.50 genb on my psp and I can turn it off whenever and when i turn it on it'll be at the same spot when I turned it off. Like I could be in the middle of a combo in Darkstalkers (the only game that I have, which is a physical copy) and when I turn it back it it'll be in the same combo.

Wow.. it's like they weren't content JUST shooting themselves in the foot with this system. They needed to add a laser sight and armor piercing bullets too.
Seriously how hard can you try to make your latest product fail before it actually has no hope?
Let's see, reasons to buy the PSP Go:
1) It's marginally more portable.
2) It has that funky game pause/save state feature going.
3) It's the latest thing.. (Ok, I'm digging here... got nothing...)
Reasons not to buy the PSP Go:
1) It's significantly more expensive than other PSPs.
2) None of your peripherals will work natively with it. In fact, it doesn't even have its own peripherals, you still use the other PSPs ones, but you have to make your system look like a discus first by strapping a brick of electronics to it.
3) You can't buy UMDs for it, so you're at the mercy of the online store as to what you can play. (Forget discount, bargain bin or 2nd hand games)
4) You can't use any of your UMDs you currently own with it.
Am I missing anything?

good point about the battery..
because the GO is boasted as the highly portable machine, but if you are really on the GO wouldnt some or most of us like the option of carrying an extra high capacity battery around in the event we gamed too long and our battery died?
GO may be more portable but the 1000-3000 can play games longer with an extra battery for those 'portable' occassions...
i wonder how many of those extra batteries they have sold to the 40+ million PSP owners.
that is a loss of revenue in itself from now on.

You know, I hear a lot of people complaining about the PSP Go, on every single blog post about it. I wish people would stop it, if they are not interested in it, then fine, but there are loads who are interested in it. Its all about choice.

You certainly do have the choice to buy it, but I don't think you can disregard all this coverage as "complaining". Most consumers electronics are overpriced, but when you compare the Go to Sony's previous offerings, it's not hard to see that you are getting much less for more.
Purchasing a Go benefits Sony much more than it would consumers.

i'm not here as an iPod/iPhone or Nintendo fanboy, just pointing out a simple business strategy that Apple and Nintendo has used... compatibility! The charging dock/cable that came with the very first iPod still works with the new models! And Nintendo goes oujt of its way to insure backward compatibility, putting the big port for old GameBoy cartridges in all of the DS's, and Gamecube Ports in the Wii (and yes, I had a Gamecube so this was useful). So, even if you bought no new games for the Wii or DS, you still could buy the hardware and not miss a beat, plus the new hardware added SIGNIFICANT new features! Will I buy the Go!? No, because my PSP 2000 still works great, I have Gamefly so I rent my games, and I have accessories that would be rendered useless with the new one. If the Go! had at least added more features (We Made It Smaller is not a feature) like a camera or touch screen or ANYTHING, then I would have thunk about it....
