Though we've gotten a few scant details about Final Fantasy XIV's fantasy-filled backdrop Eorzea, Square Enix hasn't done much to promote the area's tourist-friendly qualities. However, a new trailer from the Tokyo Game Show reveals the locales' enticing bits: It's jam-packed with riches, renown and swingin' meet-up spots where adventurers can relax with an ice cold Phoenix Down or partake in ... some form of trading card game. (Please, please, please be Tetra Master.)
The video also features an appearance by a Marlboro, a fleet of killer jellyfish and a cadre of impossible airships. Seriously, we're usually not ones to raise a stink, but Wilbur and Orville must be spinning in their graves right now.

I agree it was a beautiful trailer. Hopefully it's fun to play. I hope it comes to the 360 eventually and if it does I'll definitely try it out.

While not a lot of information has been released, the largest bit that has been discussed (The Guildleve system) is the "cards" you're talking about. It has nothing to do with a card game.

New rule: Square Enix should no longer be allowed to use those effects they use with the text on what seems like every trailer they ever put out.

Anyone else gonna skip this one altogether? I'm just not an MMO person. The time and money you have to invest just doesn't seem worth it to me. It's a shame really, because I'd rather SE have spent the dev time on a normal FF game. Oh, and on a side note, you just know the end product won't look even remotely as good as what this trailer has shown.

I feel exactly the same. I loved the lead strings carrying the tune. Uematsu is composing XIV, correct?
And that Malboro... damn.

Man, I love Tetra Master. I nearly had more fun playing that than I did playing the rest of the game it appears in.

Nice, FFXIV will probably be my first venture into the MMO realm. I've avoided them so far, but I love the FF series and this has piqued my interest.

Maybe they could have multiple card games? Just saying. But yeah, Triple Triad would make my year.

Were Biggs and Wedge in FFXI? I forget whether or not I ever found them.

The Old Republic.
Star Trek the MMO.
Final Fantasy XIV.
I can only play one MMO at a time.
Why? Why do you make me choose? HOW CAN YOU EXPECT ME TO CHOOSE?!

The mmo strategy to make $$$$$
1. Make people pay full price for a game, then charge them monthly to play it.
2. Get the customer hooked.
3. They can now charge outrageous prices for virtual items/services. Like charging $30 to change the faction of one virtual character(a feature wow recently got).
4.???
5. Profit
It's no wonder so many mmos are springing up left and right. MMOs are where the money's at. Not that it's necessarily a bad thing. MMOs can be fun, it just can be very pricey fun...
...like hookers and coke

because of course the electrictiy to run the server data centers, the internet service to support the enormous amount of bandwidth thousands of simultaneous connections takes up, and the building and computers to house the dozens of customer service/GM's is all free, right?

I'm not too hot on MMOs although I've been lured a bit by the free/micro-transaction MMOs out there. With those I don't feel like I HAVE to play every day or loose money, which really bugs me with subscription based models. So I might skip this game even though I played XI for a while.
But I have to say that Marlboro was awesome! That looked so incredibly cool I have no words for it ^^
