TGS 2009: Snoopy, Toy Soldiers coming to XBLA

It's a question we ask ourselves every day: How can we expose our children to the glories of warfare while shielding them from the unpleasant realities of blown-off-arm-stumps? Microsoft has announced not one, but two upcoming war games for the younger set.

The first, Toy Soldiers, is a tower defense game with over fifty different units and online (as well as offline) multiplayer. It's being created by Signal Studios, though we believe this is the developer's first project, so we can't really call that a loss or a win. Stay tuned, we'll have impressions of it for you soon.

The second announcement, Snoopy Flying Ace, is an aerial combat game being developed by Smart Bomb Interactive, the same house behind Snoopy vs The Red Baron. The big shock? It doesn't look half bad. No, seriously! Check out the trailer after the jump to see for yourself.

Snoopy actually looks very very interesting. Looks like a mixture of Crimson Skies with a bit of platforming added to it.

It looked like a cartoonie Crimson Skies to me too.

That was my very first thought.

Speaking of Crimson Skies....they need to make a new one for the 360 already.

I remember seeing the trailer for Snoopy some time ago, and I'm glad that it's still coming out.

Seems like it was a rumor or a no-additional-info leak at the time. I thought it looked like a ton of fun.

I am intrigued by Toy Soldiers. Always a sucker for a good tower defense game. Looking forward to hearing more about it.

Anybody remember the late 90s / early 2000s obsession with making those toy soldiers videogames ... there were like 6 of them in a matter of two years. It was a huge franchise back then but now I don't even remember the name of the games anymore...

I remember them. Between me and my brother I think we owned all of them. The first ones were pretty good but they started getting pretty ridiculous. Good memories!

yeah they were actually good games too. This one looks good, but not as good as they were back then.

Snoopy's a frigging bad ass.

That toy soldiers game looks pretty awesome. It looks like someone finally made a tower defense game that's more interactive in a meaningful way!

Game looks fucking fun. But where does Snoppy come into play? Looks a little to uber violent to have the Peanuts Logo stamped on it. I bet you they drop the Snoopy name and go with something else.

Toy soldiers didnt look to bad, and I liked the music. As for snoopy, who hasnt felt like dog fighting while watching a Charlie Brown Christmas.

Snoopy vs the Red Baron was a fun little game. For the guy asking about the violence, whenever you shot down a German plane, you would see a parachute come out so nobody actually died. And no you couldn't shoot down the parachute (had to try it).

Oh I hate tower defense games, they really are the bastard son of the RTS. Bring back turn-based strategy, someone!

Snoopy on the other hand, looks bad ass.

Wow to both trailers actually and thanks to Redeye for the new trailer. Snoopy definitely has that Crimson Skies vibe to it.

That Snoopy game looks freakin' adorable

1) Toy Soldiers would be awesome if it was a movie adaptation of the Louis Gossett Jr./Wil Wheaton movie!

2) That Snoopy game looks like a more fun Warhawk!

They both look awesome -- do we have any release dates?

Just for my clarification, Flying Aces is on both the 360 and the Wii. Correct?
