Even though the economy has seen better days, UK brick-and-mortar retailer GAME is seeing growth. Its used games revenues in the first half of this year ending July 31 grew by a whopping 12.3 percent to now make up "25.7% of total sales," paralleling US retailer GameStop's yearly used game revenue percentage. But things aren't all Ferrari 458 Italia-filled days and caviar dreams around GAME HQ, with total sales dropping by seven percent.
"In the second half, the installed base of third generation consoles will continue to build ... price reductions on the Microsoft Xbox 360 Elite and Sony's new model PlayStation 3 are helping to stimulate the market for hardware, chairman Peter Lewis said in the financial results announcement. If you add to that the recent speculation of a Nintendo Wii bundle hitting UK store shelves this holiday as well, we imagine the market will get plenty stimulated, Mr. Lewis.

Maybe this is because everytime you try to buy a damn game in there, they hassle you to buy a pre-owned copy. And a strategy guide, and microsoft points - and anything else they feel like trying to throw in.

For a laugh I had a quick look in my local GameStation (owned by GAME) last week and saw recent releases for £40-£45 and pre-owned copies were only £5 less. I couldn't help but laugh when I saw a pre-owned copy of Batman costing £5 more than I'd paid for it new online.
Why people still shop there I have no idea, the prices are too expensive and the trade in value is awful. I don't sell my old games but if I did I'd just throw them on eBay and keep all the profit for myself.

It looks like a very polite GameStop.

I tend to buy new in there as i want my games on day 1 (not delayed by Royal Mail). I finish games usually in a day or two and if there isnt any multiplayer they go right back to Game for trade in on the next title. Its not always the cheapest (or best value) way of doing things but with most new titles being £39.99 its the only way i get to play everything i want to :)

They are in Australia too. They are pretty awful. Seriously they are basically an EB (Gamestop) with very little stock and they are even more expensive! I hate those bastards at EB as much as the next person but atleast they have cool preorders/le if you are a fan of a particular series. There is absolutely no reason to shop there.
JB hifi is the only way to go here in Aus.
