wouldn't any read errors be resolved by installing the game to your hard drive? I know I never play any games from the DVD drive anymore. But some may not have space on their HDD to do this.

I only installed it because the loading time was a nightmare. Huge improvement afterwards.

IDK if it has anything to do with this, but my disc has 2 large spots on the bottom that don't look like anything I've seen before. I played all the way through campaign with no problems and some firefight. Hopefully I'm just being paranoid.

Like FNG, I don't use the drive to play games, I still have a Zephyr Elite, and I don't want the noise, gotten so use to installs.. My brother and a friend both have newer models, one is definatly a Jasper, and make less sound running off the disc than mine does on the dashboard

I'm guessing no one will see this, but disc read problems are not the most common complaint with the game currently. There is a huge lag problem for multiplayer, resulting in many a lost connection. Apparently the net code for Halo 3 campaign and multiplayer were different, and while multiplayer is rock solid, campaign isn't. ODST is based on campaign code, and tons of people are experiencing "disconnects" during play due to lag spikes, despite still being in the lobby once all players are kicked back out to menu. Bungie needs to adjust the latency processing, as it winds up in a lot of prematurely ended games. It's pretty annoying.

Hell, I am not surprised at all. My Halo 3 didn't work either out of the box. Instead of getting it replaced, i just decided it wasn't worth it.

Although his statement is ambiguous, he didn't say he just kept the non-working copy of the game. Maybe he returned it and bought a pallet of tampons from Costco.

No problems .....but this happens sometimes, i put a game in and it says open tray again instead of playing or it will say to put the game in an xbox 360 console. Got my xbox back in 2007.

I was already planning on getting it used, but I think this has been demoted to Gamefly status.

So is it the discs fault, or the xbox's fault? Because the roommate's 360 often says it can't read any game disc in the tray, and his discs are spotless, takes very good care of them. The dvd drive itself seems like about 6 bucks worth of plastic with a laser...

Not yet, second or 3rd try. As if it was a really dirty disc. But it'll play eventually.
