Shag, Halo 3 and/or ODST doesn't have anti-aliasing. It's something everyone and their mom knew, oh I don't know, 2 years ago. Yet it still managed to get a shit ton of GoTY awards and so forth. Pretty fucking dope for a game that is -80 pixels with no anti-aliasing if you ask me.

Shouldn't you be more focused on... pollution?

You've picked a very non-eco-friendly console to associate yourself with... I mean, there's so many that have been thrown out already.

I really shouldn't have aligned myself with the 360 and the PS3. Everyone seems to love Nintendo even though they have one of the worst EPA track records. You wouldn't believe how many GameBoy's I've had to blast off into the sun. And don't get me started on the Virtual Boy.

It's sad some people are getting so hung up on a number: 640p :(

Nevermind that the engine in Halo 3 allows for:

1) records of just about EVERYTHING you do as you do it for playback... including campaign, forge, and multiplayer

2) Allows for 4 player co-op (online and offline)

3) allows you to do SPLITSCREEN multiplayer (allowing for guests to join in on the fun online even if they don't have a 360)

... maybe, just maybe, Bungie opted to go with the difference in resolution so that they could provide those gameplay elements without hiccups... I know i'd gladly trade those extra pixels for having the ability just to play spiltscreen and also have those features above. I like the balance of gameplay features and graphics myself.

Just my opinion tho.

I have a feeling that most of the people who voted as having a problem, dont even own the game seeing as its almost 50% and the 13 people (myself not included) currently playing on my friend list have not had a problem.

Let me guess you also have 13 friends who never had a RROD so that must mean it's not also a problem. Yup. The Sony Defense Force made it all up. Douche.

Johnnynumber5, dont be a douche. You can't honestly think that half of the copies of ODST who Joystiq members purchased are having problems. You also cant honestly believe that the internet is full of people who when they see something that they technically shouldn't vote on, they don't. Thats just being stupid. I also never said that sony fanboys started this, just that people like to vote in polls even if they dont have the game. Go troll somewhere else.

From the article:
Anecdotally, our own David Hinkle encountered the DRE issue on a 2008 Elite. According to Hinkle, installing the game to the hard drive seemed to fix the problem. He later bought a second copy of the game and hasn't encountered the issue again. It's also worth noting that this issue seems to be isolated to the ODST campaign and Firefight mode.

==========

I doubt that there are that many people who voted Yes for the hell of it. I didn't vote at all so I have no clue what the current polls are but it shouldn't be as high as the 50% that you mentioned. I think someone mentioned 31% Yes, which sounds about right even though it's a bit on the high end.

A few weeks after I got my 360 back from getting the optical drive fixed, I got Viva Pinata 2. It started to get read errors and I was fuming. I called MS about it, they said that first, my drive wasn't covered it had been too long (3 months?) and that 2nd, I should go exchange the disc. I said that was nonsense, that clearly MS had screwed me with another bad optical drive.

But I went to Best Buy and swapped the perfect-looking disc for another copy and it worked fine. So at least in my experience, it's possible MS could ship out some bad discs, even if they look fine.

Anyone else notice Joystiq constantly posts Xbox articles on the front page that don't belong on the front page just to start a flame war?

When you put a poll like this in front of PS3 fans do you actually expect the numbers to be anywhere near accurate...? Once again Joystiq=Fail.

@ Cap'n Planet
You can easily tell the difference between upscaled 640p and native 720p, if you have a native 1280x720 display. But once you see both of them upscaled on a 1080p TV, you're right, it's almost impossible to tell.

Played through campaign on normal with my 360 Pro from 2006 that was RROD'd and repaired by MS, no issues whatsoever. Played a solo round of firefight, no problems. Working on campaign on heroic, no problems so far.

Halo 3 had the exact same DRE issues with a segment of the population, myself included. I had to send the disc in for a replacement. Luckily the replacement was problem free.

It would appear to be an issue either with the Halo 3 game code itself and/or the DVD manufacturing facility for Halo 3 discs.

Halo fans on the pc are also pissed at the fact that they have to buy a overheating box just to play their favorite franchise,

Oh and these are the same people who bought vista just to play Halo2! back when vista sucked, and it still sucks!

Just wanted to comment (amidst all the flamewars), that I have a first-gen 360 that has allowed me to play through the entire campaign with no issues. Been through one round of firefight just to see what it was like (I like to finish the campaign before I dive into multiplayer...)

Love the game for something new...don't know if it'll be getting any GOTY awards, but it's definitely a solid game, and worth a buy just for the campaign, let alone all the other "goodies", imo.

Me and two of my friends bought this game thinking it would be fun to play co-op, but we found a number of problems. First off, in typical Halo 3 fashion, the co-op (both the campaign and Firefight) is almost unplayably laggy when more than two people are playing. I know it's not our connections, because we can play other games together lag-free. Second, the game has some major issues with saving your game. If you start a solo game and play through a couple flashbacks, then want to play co-op with a friend, when you try to go back to your solo game, you have to start at the beginning of a flashback that you've played through at least once before. On top of that, once you complete that mission, your progress through the other flashbacks is rewritten so you have to play through ALL the flashbacks again if you want to complete the game.
I ended up playing the first two flashbacks 4 times each before figuring out that I had to play through the game entirely co-op, or entirely solo in order to beat it.
Also, the game randomly deleted my campaign progress at one point so I had to start over from the beginning, and play those first couple flashbacks AGAIN.
It sucks that this game could have been so fun, if the co-op functioned like you expect it to.

I had the same problem with mine, Load times were really slow and when it finally did load I'd get that error.
I couldn't load like 4 of the firefight maps, or the forth mission.I didn't start the first campaign mission , ( started on 3rd ) through co-op but skipped the 4th.mission.
Some how a friend of mine fixed it by starting the forth mission for me by finding the turret that triggers the mission in the city(new mombasa).
Now everything loads any mission, and any of firefight map with no problems.

The false idea that this only affects old hardware was just early speculation; many posts later in the thread completely disprove the theory. Three brand new discs all fail on my newer console, even when each installed to hard drive. All fail at exact same spot-- this isn't a disc read error.
