Wolfenstein headlines Amazon day of game deals
The latest Wolfenstein is Amazon's "deal of the day" special, accompanied by more games offered during today's "lightning deals." A one-way trip to the spooky-Nazi locale of Wolfenstein will cost $40 for Xbox 360 and PS3, $30 on PC (while supplies last). Meanwhile, today's lightning deals are teased as:
- 9AM Eastern:
Ghostbusters: Slimer Edition (Wii) - 12PM Eastern: Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia (DS)
- 4PM Eastern: "Pyramid Head welcomes you home." [Likely, Silent Hill Homecoming]
- 7PM Eastern: "Zombies eat brains."
- 10PM Eastern: "Why worry? Each one of us is carrying an unlicensed nuclear accelerator on his back." [Likely, Xbox 360 and PS3 version of Ghostbusters]

Vidikron @ Sep 24th 2009 12:05PM
Why aren't you banned yet?
Vidikron @ Sep 24th 2009 12:06PM
FYI... the 360 version of Wolfenstein has know freezing issue that no one seems to care to address.
Vidikron @ Sep 24th 2009 12:07PM
*known
Dirty @ Sep 24th 2009 12:15PM
I didnt encounter any freezing problem (not to say they dont exist). Wasn't that bad, I really didn't intend to play it, but rented it on a whim. Turned out to be pretty addictive, if maybe a bit of a generic shooter. Fun was had. I ended up actually finishing it.
Vidikron @ Sep 24th 2009 12:26PM
Yeah, some people do manage to finish the game just fine. Others however will get freezes over and over and some people get to the point where they can no longer advance. Apparently it strikes most often in the airfield. The current theory is that the saves are being corrupted. If you go to the Wolfenstein forum over at XBox.com you can see quite a bit of discussion about it: http://forums.xbox.com/1629/ShowForum.aspx
In particular check out the thread titled "wolfenfreeze". I'm just throwing this out there for a warning for those interested in the game. I personally like the single player campaign, but the 360 version is a bit of a crap shoot.
ChomskyKnows @ Sep 24th 2009 3:52PM
all platforms have Wolfenstein freezing issues...
Vidikron @ Sep 24th 2009 5:06PM
If there is an issue with the PS3 version I haven't seen anyone talk about it. Whereas if you go to the Wolfenstein board at XBox.com, Gamefaqs, or Ravengames.com (hell, pretty much any 360 board) there are multiple threads about freezing on the first page. A quick scan of similar boards related to the PS3 doesn't turn up the same results. But I guess I'll find out soon since I sent the 360 version back to Gamefly in exchange for the PS3 version.

I might pick up GB if the deal is good enough. I wonder what the zombie one is?
CAHLITO @ Sep 24th 2009 12:13PM
lol look at his previous comments
shawn.vanhoose @ Sep 24th 2009 12:19PM
My guess on the zombie game is Left4Dead 1.
Timett @ Sep 24th 2009 12:18PM
Zombies is probably some really good deal on Left4Dead so they can lighten their inventory before L4D2 comes out.
Markez @ Sep 24th 2009 12:23PM
How was the list on Ghostbusters for Wii 75 beans!?
Bradwart @ Sep 24th 2009 12:37PM
It was the Slimer Amazon edition, not the regular.
MLS @ Sep 24th 2009 12:26PM
I'd buy Castlevainia right now, but for some reason the lightning deals window isn't showing up. laaame
Also, the zombie game can't be L4D1. They don't eat brains in L4D!
Jose @ Sep 24th 2009 12:37PM
Zombies most certainly DO NOT eat brains. Romero (true) zombies don't, anyway.
MLS @ Sep 24th 2009 12:47PM
I think Return of The Living Dead (which just goes bananas with what zombies are able to do) and the Simpsons Halloween ep way back were what propagated the conventional wisdom that zombies eat brains.
TwistedBishop @ Sep 24th 2009 12:51PM
Yeah, Return of the Living Dead definitely started it. It became a staple from then onwards. Also, that was the first use of running zombies I can recall. Fantastic movie.
Jose @ Sep 24th 2009 12:51PM
@MLS I believe the notion that zombies eat brains predates the Simpsons. It's almost completely due to the "Of the Deads", which people just assumed to be Romero because of similarities in the titles.
Bradwart @ Sep 24th 2009 12:39PM
I used my 10 dollar ODST credit to pick up Wolfenstein. 30 isn't bad.
I would have used it on Uncharted 2, but I'd lose my free release date shipping I put on it when I had Prime.
MagusDF @ Sep 24th 2009 1:09PM
seriously no one has ideas on the zomby thing?
plants vs zombies
Josh @ Sep 24th 2009 1:48PM
Hahahaha, it's $1 off Castlevania.
Josh @ Sep 24th 2009 1:49PM
Oh fuck me, I think I just caught the deal too late.
Nefariousity @ Sep 24th 2009 2:17PM
It was only $1 off Castlevania?? How can you can that a "deal"?
I hope the zombie game is L4D. What % off are these deals usually??
TwistedBishop @ Sep 24th 2009 2:38PM
It was $9.01 off Amazon's Price.
MSRP was 29.99
Amazon was selling it for 28.99.
Gold Box made it 19.98
Chief Oddball @ Sep 24th 2009 2:24PM
This was the impetus I needed to pick up Wolfenstein. I had just played the demo last night and thought, "This isn't worth $60, but I'd pay $40." Here it is at $40. And now here it comes to my mailbox.
James Lockwood @ Sep 24th 2009 2:41PM
I'm always on the lookout for gaming deals...
*put on sunglasses*

ZippyDSMlee @ Sep 24th 2009 2:50PM
PC version has nasty bugs, but I bought 2 copies of it anyway because I like SP that much.
Nefariousity @ Sep 24th 2009 3:34PM
Oooh. Thanks, someone posted incorrect info above.
CaramelZappa @ Sep 24th 2009 3:50PM
I though Wolfenstein was underrated. The reviews (especially IGN) seemed to bash it for not really being open world, and for not doing anything crazy new and innovative. If you really like FPS's Wolfenstein is solid, though. Some people had problems with the game freezing up, I never encountered any though.
CaramelZappa @ Sep 24th 2009 3:51PM
Oh, and while the single player is great, don't expect anything from the multiplayer. It's not about to replace Modern Warfare, Halo, or TF2.
Lurkero @ Sep 24th 2009 3:55PM
Castlevania went from $30 to $29. What a deal Amazon. I paid $1 more for it when it first released, I shoulda waited
Dante G @ Sep 24th 2009 5:20PM
it was $19.98 while the deal lasted. Not such a great deal since the game is 1 year old, but with castlevania you never know, they may go hard to find and more expensive instead of getting cheaper.
Powerlord @ Sep 24th 2009 8:41PM
The Zombies game was Plants vs. Zombies for PC? Laaaaame.
Powerlord @ Sep 24th 2009 10:03PM
And the last deal is the PS3 Ghostbusters Slimer Edition thing.
