Wii price cut in Europe excludes UK [update]
Update: Nintendo has told us that the price in Canada has dropped accordingly to $219.95 and will go into effect the same day as the US. The representative also said more details on the European price drop will arrive next Monday.
Though online portals to major European retailers have yet to reflect the claim, the price for a Wii is reported to drop by €50 across Europe, bringing the total cost to €199, according to GamesIndustry.biz. Unfortunately, it appears that the price cut won't bridge the gap of the English Channel, as the discount is reportedly confirmed for all of Europe except for the UK.
Nintendo officially dropped the price of its console in the US late Wednesday night (during Sony's TGS press conference, those scoundrels!), leaving us wondering why Europe, a key market, was left out of the equation -- until now. With no price cut yet announced for the UK though, that rumored bundle seems all the more likely.

WPstart @ Sep 25th 2009 12:05PM
NintendoUK have already said that the Wii will go back to it's original price of £179.99 (£20 lower than what it is now) and will also include Wii Sports Resort with WM+.

why not the LS2LS7? @ Sep 25th 2009 12:07PM
Because the UK has had a precipitous currency valuation drop. In essence Brits are already paying a lot less for Wiis than they did at launch, not that they see the benefit of it.
The US has had a currency drop, but not as big as the UK I guess.

There should be Anarchy in the UK...seriously EU and UK get robbed of a lot things.
It's because of the stupid PAL format.
SWITCH TO NSTC PLOX.
Kevin @ Sep 25th 2009 12:36PM

Orion @ Sep 25th 2009 12:54PM
Shut up, you get three PSP Go games. :P
Josh @ Sep 25th 2009 1:39PM
But they pay 250 euros for the Go, which is like 367 USD right now.

Yo Sony!
I'm really happy for you, and Imma let you finish, but Wii is the cheapest console on the market. THE CHEAPEST CONSOLE ON THE MARKET!
Bane @ Sep 25th 2009 12:37PM

CaramelZappa @ Sep 25th 2009 2:03PM
It's not really the cheapest console on the market, just tied for cheapest. (Actually, right now the Arcade is the cheapest, and they'll be tied starting on sunday)
Jimbotron @ Sep 25th 2009 3:00PM

Hey, now it's just like the US's price!
1€=1$!
Do you guys still have that gay currency thing on Steam? I am so glad it didn't make it down under...
Pyjamarama @ Sep 25th 2009 1:23PM
179 UK£ = 194.280191 € , It sucks for them that pound is weak right now in relation to the Euro is great for us in the mainland that can buy all my games from the UK at lower prices.
esposch @ Sep 25th 2009 1:43PM
I actually have a whole (tiny) business based around that.
Contact me for cheap copies of Wind Waker/Master Quest in Australia. :D
Mr Khan @ Sep 25th 2009 1:43PM
WPStart got it right. In terms of dollars or Yen (but especially Yen), the UK Wii is definitely getting a price-cut, just not in the weakened Pound.
It doesn't stop it from seeming greedy on Nintendo's part, certainly, but there it is.
Spartan [Planeteer | Power of Sunshine & Lollipops] @ Sep 25th 2009 1:51PM
Actually the UK is getting a price dop.

Okay, here is the official word: Nintendo will implement a price cut across Europe from €249 to €199 with the exception of the UK and Ireland. This region will receive the improved bundle including Wii Sports Resort and Motion Plus. More details on my blog:
