Overheard@TGS: A high five from the real Dante

"Well, you know, I do think Dante would approve of our game. He was a man ahead of his time," supposed a Dante's Inferno developer about Dante Alighieri, author of 14th-century epic poem the Divine Comedy; the first part, Inferno, serving as the game's source material ... in theory.

And if someone wants to make a videogame/movie/art piece dedicated to something they liked or loved... how is that possible if you have to be original with everything?

Thats like doing a painting dedicated to the Original resident evil, and replacing every character, monster, and the setting with something that was never in the game to begin with.... How is it resident evil anymore?

I think the problem here is that the devs have too much pride in the game (lol pride). They honestly believe they have a Game of the Year on their hands, while we all have seen that it's nothing more than "God of War 360... IN HELL".

The Divine Comedy was as much a criticism of Alighieri's times as it was a work of art. Journey to the West, which was a criticism of the Tang Dynasty, gave us Sun Goku which gave Akira Toriyama the idea to spin the idea into the Dragon Ball series.

I think the better question right now is whether the storytelling can live up to the challenge or not.

This game has much "dante's inferno"'s book than "Spirit" the movie has from "spirit" comics or that the "Super Mario" movie has from the mario games =P

How is it everybody is forgetting that this is the same developer who made the excellent Dead Space. When that game was coming out everybody cried it's just a clone of ____. But then when they played it, it was an excellent game of it's own accord, which did indeed use the best concepts from some great games, and then put it's own unique stamp on it. I have faith they can make this a really good game worth playing.

As somebody who spent a considerable amount of his academic life studying Dante ... and as a videogame lover ... this just offends me.
