Be sure to take some time this weekend to read through all the
Tokyo Game Show coverage still going on. Lots of impressions and hands-ons with the games we'll be playing soon -- or in
2010. What's everyone playing this weekend?

- Alexander Sliwinski (@XanderSliwinski): Firefight, Firefight, Firefight, FirefightFirefightFirefightFirefightFirefightFirefight YAYYYYYYYY!
- Andrew Yoon (@scxzor): [Shhh, he's sleeping.]
- Ben Gilbert (@BigBossBgilbert): My good buddy Eric let me borrow his copy of ODST -- it's a lean month, I'll buy it myself soon! -- so I'll be playing that (on Legendary, unlike that ninny Dustin Burg who played it on Casual I hear). I'll be thinking pretty seriously about Kenka Bancho: Badass Rumble, though. I need that game in my life.
- Christopher Grant (@ChrisGrant):This weekend, in between house work and catching up on email after nearly a week off, I'll be finishing Resident Evil 5 before giving Wet a ride.
- David Hinkle (@DaveHinkle): I'm not sure how much gaming I'll be able to squeeze in this weekend, but when I can, it's all about Halo 3: ODST. Firefight is pretty great (Rich, Alexander, Dustin and Dave Joystiq crew represent!) and I'm slowly getting back into Halo 3 multiplayer. I also need to finish Batman: Arkham Asylum and I have this awesome game by the name of Muramasa: The Demon Blade whispering sweet nothings in my ear.
- Dustin Burg (@SuperDunner): Halo 3: ODST and Halo 3 multiplayer, because I love teh Haloz.
- Griffin McElroy (@griffinmcelroy): I'll probably be playing a fair amount of The Beatles: Rock Band this weekend, as I'll likely be spending time with people who aren't ashamed to harmonize for high scores.
- James Ransom-Wiley: I've put off finishing up Batman for too long -- I just ... don't want it to end :'-(
- JC Fletcher (@jcfletcher): I'm playing lots of things this week in tiny increments. In fact, you can see exactly what I'm playing, and what I think about what I'm playing, at joystiq.com.
- Justin McElroy (@JustinMcElroy): I'll be finishing up Uncharted 2. Yeah, f*ck you too, buddy.
- Kevin Kelly (@gadgetguy): My gaming system gathering dust in an empty apartment while I live it up at Fantastic Fest. On deck for tonight: Robogeisha.
- Ludwig Kietzmann (@LudwigK): Most of the games I hope to play this weekend involve horrifying Tokyo Game Show crowds. If I can wade through the sea of Clouds, I might get some time with Bayonetta, Heavy Rain and Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.
- Randy Nelson (@DangerPenguin): I'll be putting the PSP Go through the final paces for our review next week. Other than that, I plan to ride shotgun as my girlfriend beats Wet and have plans to drive really, really fast in Dirt 2 and Need For Speed: Shift. If I get the chance, I'm going to take a friend up on their offer to "make me a Halo 3 multiplayer master." He must be really, really patient.
- Richard Mitchell (@SenseiRAM): Hopefully wrapping up ODST, because next week I'm headed to the Stanley hotel -- where Kubrick shot The Shining -- for my third wedding anniversary. The only thing keeping me company during the trip will be my wife and Professor Layton. And ghosts.
- Xav de Matos (@Xav): While at TGS, I've been getting hands-on time with such high-profile titles as Crackdown 2, Final Fantasy XIII and Splinter Cell: Conviction. Make sure to look for our impressions!
- Justin Glow (@justinglow): (Folding at Home.)

TMNT: Smash Up!!
Reality of the game is some way in-between my own rather optimistic expectations, and those of the doubters who claimed that it was impossible to do a good TMNT game. As a celebration of TMNT history, the game could have been infinitely better, given that it only has 16 characters, and three of them are rabbids.
To re-emphasize: three of TMNT's 16 characters, are Rabbids.
They made some odd exclusions, while they definitely didn't favor one continuity in particular (voices and personalities seem taken right out of the new cartoon, but Shredder isn't a Utrom in this game like he was there), and they distinctly ignored anything that was exclusive to the old cartoon. The arcade mode's story definitely could have been fleshed out more (and done from different perspectives. You're limited to the set of basic hero characters through which to do the mode, villains you unlock, like Karai and Shredder, are unavailable, at least thus far)
As a Brawl clone, though, the game plays it's role to the hilt, from custom name control schemes, to the acquiring of Shells in the place of coins, to the using of those shells to unlock trophies, as well as the basic combat, with a double-jump, rolling dodges, and a very basic set of directional attacks. It falls far short of Brawl in terms of aerial combat, but adds elements like off-the-wall attacking, and i find its grabbing mechanics much more useful. Items are definitely a little disappointing, in that they don't really feel right
It divides the modes up like Smash Bros, too. An all-star mode of sorts, available from the beginning, except here they just keep throwing the foes at you constantly, in the same stage, and you have to keep fighting until you go down, which i find a bit more fun than Smash Bros' iteration. Arcade mode, if compared to Classic, is a *lot* less varied, if only because of the smaller roster, but also because of the fixed story.
tldr version: It's a solid fighting game and a neat smash bros clone, but could have done so much more as a celebration of TMNT history.

Damn dude.
Deadpool @ Sep 25th 2009 11:19PM
Since your on the subject, does anyone remember the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Tournament Fighters game for SNES? I LOVED that game! It was such a good 2D fighter. I would love to see it HD.

Halo 3 & ODST.
World at War and maybe Mario and Luigi BIS.

Anyone wants to do Iron & Deja vu?
MystileArmor @ Sep 25th 2009 10:31PM
Playing some more Half-Life 2 (So far the story is fantastic). Other then that, I'll probably try to get some more 5 starred songs done in The Beatles: Rock Band and I got my hands on Plants vs. Zombies. Actually a really addictive game, although at times frustrating.
I'll probably try to put some more time into the Forza 3 demo as well. So far I'm really impressed.
Durden @ Sep 25th 2009 11:00PM
I was trying to remember who that was trying out HL2 for the first time. Are you on PC or 360? I'm glad you're liking it so far.
MystileArmor @ Sep 26th 2009 12:13AM
I'm on X360, my pc probably won't be able to handle it, if it does, it's not going to look all that nice.
We're talking about a pc here that can barely handle GTA 3...
Durden @ Sep 26th 2009 12:36PM
I have the hardware to run it but its a... wait for it... Mac :( I don't own one game for it either. My first play through HL2 was on Xbox 1. I thought it was great at the time but it sucked real bad. Orange Box on the 360 is a million times better but I'm sure a decent PC looks a lot better and probably not as much loading.
I'm rambling. Have a good weekend and War Eagle!

Haha, love it!
RANDOM G [XBL: NYMZ777, PSN: NYMALICIOUS] @ Sep 25th 2009 10:48PM
That's how they picture white people in general.
RKN @ Sep 25th 2009 11:23PM
I have a feeling before long, white people will make up a sizable minority of Japan's population as their population declines and all the wapanese go over there. We'll also be seeing a shitload of half white and asian kids in the future, way more than now.
MattKing @ Sep 26th 2009 8:46PM
I just got back from Japan and they have this guy everywhere.
Some people think it offensively stereotypes foreigners and white people:

ODST for me. I can't seem to get past the fifth set in Firefight.
Also, the Brutal Legend demo is sexy.

Halo 3 ODST split screen with my girlfriend.

I get to play Life!! I finally got a job to support my gaming addiction! I had to do horrible things to get my games before..
Especially to get "Wet"..
Saria the Cat @ Sep 25th 2009 10:50PM
TRUE BLOOD...I mean...I'll probably finish Batman up this weekend, and Professor Layton needs some solving as well.
...And I just realized, I caught 'em all! I am following all the Joystiq peeps on Twitter, plus some special retired editions.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Sep 25th 2009 11:38PM
I just beat ODST on legendary, as i type this im watching the credits, so i think i'll probably spend the weekend in the incredibly awesome firefight mode getting the map achievements, then trying hard for the vidmasters, and if i finish those ill go through the campaign again on legendary solo. Might also finish WET as well
Solace @ Sep 26th 2009 12:41AM
you didnt watch the Season Finale yet?
Saria the Cat @ Sep 26th 2009 12:51AM
@Solace: I did, but I am rewatching my favorite episodes...and reading the Sookie Stackhouse novels (on the 2nd now)...and watching YT interviews with the cast. Yeah, I'm a junkie.
Solace @ Sep 26th 2009 1:11AM
Yeah I have been wanting to check out the novels but what a great season it was. Ending was predictable but how they got there was the good stuff. There is so much to talk about when it comes the show I don't know where to begin and yeah I'm a junkie too, thanks to my vampire loving girlfriend.
I can't believe I was so hesitant to watch the show because after watching Twilight I never wanted to see any thing with Vampires again but I was totally surprised not to mention Sookie is so beautiful.
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Sep 26th 2009 1:22AM
im sorry Saria, for polluting your post with my reply fail : (
The Dark Wayne [Planeteer: Power of the Batusi] @ Sep 26th 2009 1:27AM
wait a minute, what do you mean you'll be finished with me?! You tell them before I even know!?
Saria the Cat @ Sep 26th 2009 4:18AM
Aww Dark Wayne, don't believe a word of that gossip. ;)
And Solace, it's nice to hear about a straight guy enjoying True Blood instead of just condemning it blindly because it's "for girls" or "Twilight" or whatever. It's really a good show with sexy people doing sexy stuff, and I think everyone can enjoy that. The books are great, I recommend them. They're slightly different from the show. The biggest thing I've noticed so far is that Bill is a Grade A douche in the books, which explains why the people who read the book are Eric fans. Anyway, if you ever want to chat about TB, I am ALWAYS willing! :P My AIM is Saria the Cat.
WINterfang @ Sep 27th 2009 12:07AM
I love you Saria.

ChuckBartowski @ Sep 26th 2009 12:14AM
+1
Durden @ Sep 25th 2009 10:58PM
I had a weird urge to go pick up MLB The Show today. I haven't played a baseball game since Triple Play '99 with "Cyber Sammy" on the cover. I may go find a used copy tomorrow. Any opinions on The Show???
Other than that: NBA LIve 10 demo (rocks), FIFA 10 demo (not sure what to think yet), Forza 3 demo (holy shit rocks!), and hopefully finish up the Dirt 2 tour so I can get serious about online multiplayer.
Oh yeah, I need to finish Arkham Asylum up on hard and try out the DLC.
Durden @ Sep 25th 2009 11:02PM
Oh yeah, I forgot the Brutal Legend demo! Totally kicks ass!
Lot's of good demos!
el serpiente @ Sep 26th 2009 11:56AM
Jesus, if you haven't played a baseball game since '99, then The Show is going to melt your face off.
MRLN the Amazing @ Sep 25th 2009 10:58PM
Metroid Prime, then more Metroid Prime, and many, many more subsequent hours of Metroid Prime.
I also have Scribblenauts, Mario and Luigi: BIS, and Half-Life 2 (all episodes) to play. I think I'm set 'til Final Fantasy XIII.
